It doesn't say that anywhere. Don't make assumptions sound like facts.
While it's not fact, this is the most probable assumption as to what happens. I'm going off what the past Smash Bros. games have done. That is not a crime good sir.

The other possibilities, is that it's completely random, which can also tie into the holding of L and R theory. One thing we now know for sure, is that Mac does not have to be present for the stage to change.

So the differences between the two are purely aesthetic? I wonder why not just keep one design as it's a very simple stage. If the change would occur only when Little Mac was on stage it would be a nice easter egg, but if you can change it at will I find it a bit unnecessary maybe? What triggers the stage change remains to be seen though. It's cool none the less I guess haha!

Maybe the key for changing the ring is King Dedede and Little Mac. There were not picture with King Dedede and the Stadium stage in the Smash version.

It makes sense, because Dedede fight in a Boxing Ring in Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Seeing triple D in the boxing ring makes me hope that his final Smash is Mega Dedede.

OMFG. I never expected something like THIS holy ****. I also never expected for the person I argued with before AND myself to BOTH be right about the stage. Just WHAT

Here is the Dedede Boxing ring. Maybe with a alternative Donkey Kong with boxing Gloves make change the stadium stage as well? Which other characters have been in a Boxing ring?

None of the previous Smash games did that. If there were alternate versions of a stage, it was either random or happened depending on the time of day. No button holding unless a cheat code was made for that, which was done for the stages in Brawl.

So again, don't make assumptions sound like facts. Period.

Mushroomy Kingdom from Brawl was random, but allowed if you hold L or R, you would always get the Underground version. If you held X or Y, you'd always get the Overworld version.

You seem to be irritated for no reason. Calm down.

..."Calm down"? O_o

...Here's the kind of reaction that always makes me laugh and confuses me. Does it not occur to you people that I can make posts without any jokes or faces and still be perfectly calm? Use your brains, seriously. XD

Anyway, after just trying that, nothing happened. Sorry to say, that's not the case.

That's a wrestling ring, not a boxing ring. There's only three ropes.

Anyway, I think this is weird and I don't really see the point. Why not just leave it as Little Mac's stage? At least the whole Alfonzo swap in thing makes sense, this doesn't really.

man seeing bowser next to dedede makes him looks like a beast in comparison....

im liking it

Now i just wonder what this means for the music on this stage, will it all be punchout regardless of the theme? Or will there be other random battlefield esq themes present as well if its in the smash bros state?

Because a Smash Ring is a pretty cool idea, even as an aesthetic? At least there's finally a 3rd Smash Original stage.

...Even if it's alternate version is a Punch-Out stage...Huh, that kinda subtracts from the appeal a bit.

....why do too many people not know Dedede's been fighting in boxing rings long before Super Star Ultra?

Hell, the fact Spring Breeze also contains a boxing ring for Dedede's fight should have tipped off that he at least had done so in the original Super Star.....

smh

EDIT: Yes, I am aware that it's technically a wrestling ring due to the three ropes.

Because more people have played Super Star Ultra, obviously.

Well, I guess if Little Mac and some other characters who fit the bill (Dedede) trigger the Punch-Out version of the stage, instead of it being random or changed at will, it would keep its novelty and easter eggy vibe. Otherwise an aesthetic change like that doesn't seem too exciting. Mushroomy Kingdom at least had significant changes so the change felt bigger.

Internet wording can be taking out of context without any sort of signals to show. Sarcasm is hard to pinpoint on message boards without a emoticon or makeshift face, for example.

Also:

Mushroomy Kingdom has a randomizer script attached to it. When chosen at the Stage Selection screen, both the Ground and Underground levels have a 50% chance of loading. However, it is possible to guarantee which version of the stage is used by holding down a certain button as it is selected. Following is a guide to doing this with all four controllers using the default control schemes:

Ground

  • Gamecube Controller: X or Y
  • Classic Controller: Same as GameCube
  • Remote & Nunchuk: C
  • Wii Remote: A
Underground

  • Gamecube Controller: L or R
  • Classic Controller: Same as GameCube
  • Remote & Nunchuk: Z
  • Wii Remote: B
Source: http://supersmashbros.wikia.com/wiki/Mushroomy_Kingdom

Idk what controller scheme you are using, but there it is, clear as day. Again, I'm only saying what's entirely possible for the boxing ring. It can work similar to the Mushroomy Kingdom. Either 50% random, or you can force the version on want.

You do know that controller schemes have no effect on menu controls and only battle controls, right?

Anyway, it's still nothing more than an assumption to say "I KNEW IT! IT DOES THIS BECAUSE I THINK SO". Imagine someone without knowing much of anything seeing that and assuming that it was true only for the game to come out and it's not true? That assumption ended up misleading them.

That's why I'm basically saying that instead of going "it works like this", say that "maybe it works like this".

Simple difference, but the implications should be clear. Get it?

tl;dr: Don't say things in a way that could mislead people.

...No...they work both ways man. It's right there in the link..........you hold down the corresponding button as you're selecting the level.

The HA I KNEW IT was not based on the fact that I KNOW this is the way Sakurai put it in the game. Obviously we don't know that yet.

That phase was because pretty much everyone was saying how Little Mac affected the the boxing ring, and I was one of the few thinking "hey, that's not fair to Little Mac. He's the only character that has to deal with his only stage representation being shared with Smash Bros." In other words I was thinking that Mac was not the reason the ring changed.

That is what caused my HA I KNEW IT, not because I'm trying to be a condescending, know-it-all. Apologies if you felt that way.

You aren't listening at all. >_>

It's not that part of the message that's the issue, it's the OTHER part. We don't know that it's triggered by holding buttons or if it's random.

Goddamn...It's too damn late for this. Forget it. I'm going to bed. - -

And yes. NOW I'm irritated. Congratulations. Check your PSN and you'll find a Trophy for it.

Of course we don't know man. We don't know anything Sakurai hasn't told us yet.

Sakurai just confirmed that Mac DOES NOT have to be on the stage to trigger the version change. That's why I said "HA I KNEW IT". That's what I'm getting at. Then, I backed up my claim on WHY I believe it will be triggered with L or R (or whatever button scheme) with proof.

I'm going to bed too.

Oh god no, stage clones! Wasting valuable slots on our stage roster! Better brace yourselves for 3 slightly different Starfox stages, all with landmasters. This game is ruined!

Maybe Little Mac is the key for the stage to be Punch Out? And he was out of the ring for the pic?

It's really odd that they chose to offer 2 versions of this stage...just seems to take away attention/focus from Little Mac. No other character has had their stage represented this way. Not complaining, nothing wrong with choices/options, just odd that they wouldn't want Little Mac to be more prominently represented.

If the boxing ring doesn't change depending on Little Mac's presence, then what will decide the version being played on? My guess is that it's randomly selected like the Mushroomy Kingdom in Brawl.

I don't think it would make sense if each version had a slot, when all that differs from each version are the textures.

sucks that i got banned from miiverse so i don't get to see his comment.

aw well. I'm just going to assume that he states that when Little mac isn't being played on the stage, it becomes the smash bros arena, when he is chosen its the punchout one.
How does one manage to get banned from miiverse? -_-

Lucario, Little Mac, and Diddy Kong...as well as a couple arenas, and various other small updates and reveals...

I feel that's a decent month content wise.
Lucario was show on the last day of January

Yeah, I hope that doesn't happen either. What I would believe is that it will be the "Punch-Out!!" version when ever Little Mac(or Donkey Kong) is chosen to fight(and kill). For any/every other character, it will be the "Smash Bros" version. Though, for King Dedede, I hope there's unlockable version based off his ring in Super Star Ultra.

I kinda liked this idea. I'm kinda hoping they'll be other stage textures as well. As long as they make sense, of course.

Not supporting Shrek for playable status.

At least he got the stage changing out of the way pretty early into Little Mac's reveal instead of taking forever to get down to it and wasting a Pic of the Day on it much later when we're in the heat of another newcomer's hype.

I got a warning on Miiverse some time ago for telling a guy to not call others 'jerks' for wanting Ridley. Really, I got a warning for that. I used to like Miiverse, but really, it is just pathethic now. -__- And 90% of all the comments are just unreadable.

But anyways. I am happy Sakurai confirmed this, cuz' too many were arguing about how it would work. I hope there will be a Dedede version as well. No harm in having a multi-franchise Boxing Arena.

Still seems to me that the stage started it's life as a Punch-Out ring, and not a generic Smash ring, as it has too many Punch-Out details in it's design and Little Mac obviously was always planned to be playable. It seems plausible that some where during development, they decided to "hide" the obvious Punch-Out elements in order to not make Little Mac's reveal obvious and decided to keep the alternate ring (because why waste a reskin), or they thought having a Generic Smash ring for event matches would make sense.

As far as music? I'd imagine it stays the same between both versions, and that it is a mix of music that makes sense for the stage. Probably mostly Punch-Out, with maybe some music from Pro-Wrestling or Wii Sports Boxing or whatever.
