Well there goes another one that would fit well as a playable character. I swear to god if that leak wich has that stupid rhythm heaven rep is true...... Anyways whats the deal with this site always doing a system matianence around the same time the POTD is up?

Guess it's fair that they only came out recently. But then again, GRENINJA?!

^ Not hating on Greninja, but reading out loud comments like W101 only came out last year to deserve any chance, and yet, Greninja only existed sometime after W101 was released.

I still think a random character reveal (or a Mothers Day one) is still more likely than Wario for Mario Kart. Now THAT if anything would be too obvious haha!

Thank goodness I'm one of the very few people that don't care about newcomers so none of this really affects me (of course, I can still have my opinions of how they could play).

Hmmm. The past couple of sakuras pic of the days are very interesting. Talk about deconfirms! However he is blatantly pointing out 2nd parties. They are not forgotten.

One could almost guarantee that there will be a 2nd party rep on the roster at this point.

Are we building up to something?

May shall be known as the 'Month of the Raining Blood', as it looks like Sakurai will be cutting heads off characters left right and centre. If this continues, we'll get confirmation that Snake isn't returning, Ridley is a stage hazard, Pokemon Trainer and his two buddies are trophies, and King K. Rool isn't anywhere at all.

Then he'll confirm Chorus Boy.

No ****s were given in May.

Actually, let's call May 'No ****s May'.

Character's creation date has nothing to do with their inclusion. This game is to celebrate Nintendo's history, new and old. The Wonderful 101 is a new, Wii U only IP. Dillon's Rolling Western is a 1st party e-shop only game. Both are unrepresented parts of Nintendo's history.

Even then, Pikmin was the newest IP they had at the time.
As for Greninja, it's a new character yes, but its also a part of a long going and popular franchise. Much like Rosalina.

Rosalina had some leeway since her first game in 2007, and her popularity had slowly risen as she appeared in spin-off series such as Mario Kart. She has at least some ground for becoming a playable character.
Although, for Greninja, I guess you could say he became an instant hit in less than a year. So arguably, he has some purpose, too.

And yet Greninja has barely existed for even a year, but he became a playable character easily (due to strong popularity).

But, as someone mentioned, he is apart of Pokemon, which is already a strong foundation for him.

So far we haven't had any disconfirmations of relatively plausible characters with big fan bases. Waluigi, Skull Kid, Ashley, Dillon and Wonder Red are comparatively small time in comparison to the top potential newcomers with the biggest support threads, i.e.:

Ghirahim
Isaac
K. Rool
Shulk
Bandana Dee
Takamaru
Mewtwo

Palutena, Chrom, Mii and Pacman are shoe-ins who won't get disconfirmed. And of course any definitive news related to Ridley will shut down quite a few forums.

But I have to admit It'll be very interesting when one of the above listed characters inevitably faces Sakurai's disconfirmation hammer of destruction.

I don't think anyone is a shoe-in at this stage. The four you listed are certainly likely though.

Personally, I think Bandana Dee has all but been disconfirmed anyway. Ghirahim, K. Rool and Takamaru might not even be on his radar.

The only odd one for me is Isaac, seeing as he wasn't in the Direct at all. I have a good feeling about him... but it's hard to be confident anymore.

I wonder what the reaction would be to Krystal or Geno's disconfirmation. They're both odd cases in that they have big support threads, but I get the feeling most of their supporters know they have no chance whatsoever but enjoy supporting them anyway.

I consider Palutena the most likely unannounced character since Pseudo-Palutena in the direct was just way too much of a tease for there not to be something there; you were meant to think it was Palutena and then it was shown not to be, and we also see Palutena no longer appears in Pit's final smash. Sakurai mostly doesn't do subtle hints, but there was really nothing subtle about the Palutena teasing in the direct. Isaac not appearing in the direct could go either way really; it would make sense if he were going to be playable, but he could just as easily have been low priority to show in the direct or even more have been cut as an assist trophy and not appear at all in smash 4. There's no real information we have to distinguish between possibilities.

Either way, this is fairly off-topic. As per the topic at hand, whatever semblance of a pattern Sakurai had for reveals is pretty well out the window, and we're basically in pre-E3 mode at this point. He might feel like showing a veteran or two before E3... or he might want to do another big info dump figuring that will be more overall hype. We don't know when in the summer the 3DS version will come out, but it will be pretty close by E3 so it's likely we'll have seen the entire starting roster by E3 (though not quite guaranteed!). My mindset is that I am expecting a few more important details in the upcoming weeks; in particular, I expect a picture showing us a bit more about how the Pokemon League Wii U stage works sometime soon. However, big new info or any sort of character at all... that's just a bonus at this point. I would be neither surprised nor disappointed if the last two pictures of this week amounted to nothing of consequence.

Yeah, we definitely need another Yoshi's New Island release / Yoshi reveal expectation day. This thread was crazy yet so much fun! Even if the end result might have been disappointing haha!

That sucks, but oh well. I thought he was atleast Assist Trophy level, but that's all right if he is just only a Trophy.

Jesus, time to break out the "take a look at this guy" cam who is absolutely losing it on Tumblr about Wonder Red not being playable. Also, they're STILL complaining about WFT and Villager. People like this should be barred from getting the game, IMO.

Getting a bit more on topic, I'm actually glad WR's disconfirmed. He's the latest exciting insignificant bandwagon character that people liked to pretend was likely because the game was decent, and just like the slew of forgotten bandwagons like Geno and Midna and Victini, will have faded away long before the next Smash is even being planned. It's nice to see the no-hopers weeded out so the actually possible choices can be discussed.

Wow. Way to be a huge **** to people for no reason.

Also, don't even compare the Wonder Red supporters to Geno or Midna supporters. Just because some random wannabe chucklehead on tumblr is whining doesn't mean we're all the same.
