Why do the platforms have different colors?

Were there different colored platforms in Balloon Fight?
Yes. It was set up like your typical arcade game in which more obstacles were added the further along you got, eventually getting to the point where the game was hilariously difficult. Excite Bike and Ice Climber are like this too and speaking of which...

The fact that our 5 newest challengers' warnings aren't gone yet makes me doubt Ice Climbers this week a bit. Maybe Meta Knight around May 2 will actually be our next challenger, but if thats the case when else would they show Ice Climbers?
I wouldn't worry about it. Of the 5 characters that were in Brawl's starting roster and not confirmed yet (:popo::ike::lucas::metaknight::wario:) 3 have all but been confirmed (:popo::metaknight::wario:) and 1 has been very heavily implied (:lucas:/:ness2:) . Realistically speaking, we still have at least 3 months (probably 4 given Nintendo's release history) until the 3DS game comes out with the biggest gaming expo of the year about a month and a half way so there's plenty of time and opportunities for them to pop up. It should also be noted that we got 9 characters in the span of 4 months so we've averaged 2 characters a month anyways so, again, even if this drops to 1 a month (which is unlikely thanks to E3), I don't think anyone should be concerned about them not being revealed before release.

Balloon Fight! I still remember playing it on my NES!

Glad to see it's a stage. Many nostalgic matches will go down there....

I don't feel confident seeing the Ice Climbers this week, but they're basically in so it doesn't really matter that much. I just want to be right about something. I've only been right about Zelda and Dedede, and they were givens.

There's just no better place to show IC off, except for E3, so Sakurai should just do it now. I mean, they put a lot of hype around NES Remix, and Sakurai sometimes mentions EShop releases, so I think they could happen, but I'm not sure. But I'm holding out for them.

Oh, and as for the banner still being there, we got Rosalina, Zelda, and Dedede in one go, along with Little Mac and Diddy. I think it'd be alright if the same happned.

I would have thought that fish was too big to be in Smash, but here we see that he has been re-sized.
Yes, but you're only thinking about the NES representation of Fish. Fish, in his modern appearance, is seen as a giant, imposing figure... which is honestly the way he was always envisioned. To scale him down would be a disservice to his character which is why I think he will always be a boss or stage hazard even though I know people would love to see him as playable.

On a random note, looking at your sig, how is Takamaru 'seemingly disconfirmed'?

Anyways. Tomorrow, I predict... something brand new~
To me, Greninja takes the role i pictured Takamaru in. He's still likely and i still support him, but I figured he would throw stars and use a sword similarly to the way Greninja keeps swinging those water blades around.

Ah, I see. ^^ Well, I doubt you have to worry Greninja 'took his place' here. I mean, you could have said Greninja wouldn't have been likely because we already have a Ninja (Sheik). And such. I doubt Greninja hurts his chances at all.

But we'll see.

It does help that Takamaru's a Samurai with neat abilities, not a Ninja. Plus, having what... a shuriken in common doesn't mean much. One of Villager's moves is based around Punch Out. Little Mac is there.

I think many disconfirm characters a bit too fast just because they have a move or two in common. Mewtwo VS Lucario is the epitome of this.

Haha, yeah, that 'Lucario replaced Mewtwo' thing is really odd, to say the least. Yeah, Takamaru hasn't been hurt at all by this. :)

I will be fair. Before we know that Mewtwo was planned, that wasn't really a bad assumption to make. I do agree it's silly since they have one move in common.

Oh, I'm not worried about them being revealed at all. I'm just saying maybe I'm not so confident about Ice Climbers at the end of this week. Meta Knight's been implied with the Halberd stage too, I feel. Honestly what I think is that we could get Ice Climbers this week or whenever, Meta Knight around May 2, and Wario around May 30. I'm pretty sure Ike and Lucas are cut and Ness is a secret character, therefore I'm personally not worried about much at all. All the starters will be revealed when the game comes out and all I'm worried about are how happy and surprised I'll be at secret characters! I was spoiled for Brawl, but remembering the magic of melee's "WARNING! CHALLENGER APPROACHING"s I really wanna stay spoiler free for Smash4. I think my most unrealistic hope is Tetra, so I'll be really happy to see her. She has a couple things going for her, but...
Here's a question! After the 3DS version comes out do you think we'll start to see Wii U pic of the days for unlockable characters, or will they just be hidden ? pages like on the dojo?

I'd be very surprised if all of the characters revealed so far are starters.

It would be a very unbalanced group, as far as series. All the Mario characters as starters? Mega Man and Sonic too?

My impression was that Sakurai wasn't trying to keep unlockables secret because people will find out online as soon as it releases (hence why all the newcomer trailers will be available without needing to unlock them).

Well at the very least, Sonic and Megaman would not be starters. Snake and Sonic were revealed on the Dojo before the release and they were unlockable.

Third party characters have been noted to be unlockables for being "guests", as Sakurai puts it. I remember people making similar arguments to yours back in the Dojo days for Brawl. "Pokemon Trainer's three fighters in one; why would he be a starter?" "Why would they have three Kirby characters from the get-go? Dedede's probably unlockable." I'd actually be okay with the characters shown so far being starters. Some people may argue against Toon Link, Lucario, Marth, and Luigi but, honestly, if I have to unlock characters, I want most of them to be brand new so, in my opinion, the more veterans in the starting roster, the better.

I agree so much. I would much rather that veterans be unlocked from the start, save a select few, and the rest of the unlockable characters be revealed newcomers or unknown newcomers. It's far more exciting to unlock someone you didn't know about than to unlock a character you've played in three other Smash Bros. games, like Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, or Ness.

I feel like Brawl would have been received better as a final product if they had made more of the starters unlockable and more of the unlockables starters. If they had swapped Marth with Ike, Ness with Lucas, Captain Falcon with Olimar, Jigglypuff with Pokemon Trainer, Luigi with Wario, and made either Metaknight or Dedede unlockable, I think the amount of whining would have been significantly less.

On topic, my guess for tonight is another item explanation.

To me, it's just that Greninja filled the niche that Takamaru would've originally filled. I don't think Takamaru is any less likely, or is deconfirmed. It's just that I want him in less now that I can play as Greninja and get the same feel that I would've with Takamaru (supposedly).

Why do the platforms have different colors?

Were there different colored platforms in Balloon Fight?
Different stages have different colored grass in balloon fight so it must mean the grass color changes depending on stage layout

I'm hoping we see some explanation of Charizard this week. And of course Ice Climbers on Thursday. But if we don't see that, I at least want some info on Charizard. Or maybe some changes to Yoshi?

Charizard info would be graciously appreciated at this point. I would like to know how he was changed from his PT appearance in Brawl. He was fantastic(imo) in Project M as a standalone, and to see something even remotely like that in this game would be awesome. As for this week, the Ice Climbers are as likely as they ever will be(barring E3), but I would think they wouldn't need to be shown there unless there were some big changes to the character. This week will most likely be more recaps from the direct. Some info on the Tanooki Suit or the Special Flag would be great. Maybe we can get something new Friday.

Edit: Forgot to comment on today's pic. The Balloon Fight stage is my favorite stage in Smash ever. Period. The fact that it incorporates the fish, the flippers, and a changing layout makes it that much better. All it needs are the lightning clouds and it will be perfect. One of the enemies showing up in Smash Run would be awesome too.

I think the starting roster should be the brawl roster and you only unlock newcomers. newcomers can still be revealed but they wont be there at the start

This stage sounds crazy fun.
I'm imagining a Pocket Fighter-like moment sending the opponent in a full circle and receiving them with another attack... oh the possibilities.

I bet were getting something we already know about. The direct was pretty much Sakurai saying "Well I know what I'm doing in daily pics until E3"

I didn't enjoy either of the retro stages in Brawl, so hopefully the Balloon Fight stage will be a pleasant surprise and actually fun. Depending on how frequent the fish is, getting KOs with certain characters could be a pain with no side KOs.

I'm wondering if you can still KO someone out the sides with enough momentum, but they can walk off the edge and it won't kill them, similar to how they made it in Brawl that you couldn't kill yourself by jumping too high, but you could still get KO'd in the sky.

The Direct "clarifications" continue. Not bad, but I do hope we get away from ones that are quite this obvious.
I get the feeling we are going to get nothing but Direct clarifications until E3 2014... since you know, we got 5 characters at once... that's equivalent of 3 months!
