I'm guessing there will be some issue regarding the GC controller to USB connector used, if it's got input delay then combined with online lag it's a little annoying. :| Are there any usb connectors that don't have input delay?
I'm working on partnering with an individual distributor to provide high-quality adapters to Melee fans at a discount. I'll keep everyone updated.

Ah ok, it'd be really awesome if they could manufacture USB ones that take 4 gc pads at once, too. ^^

USB ports can have input delay though. I guess that' pretty comp specific though and only if you're using other ****. I don't actually know anything about USB. Am I right, though?

Forget that, just spend all your time on the Phantasy Star Online 2 Closed Beta. It's what I'm doing.

I play Melee with people over Skype all the time.

"I jab with Ganondorf, what do you do?"
If they don't respond within 3 frames (or however long it takes), I hit.

How about going back to the old way of playing Melee online via Phantasy Star Online, GameCube Broadband and 2 straight-thru network cables one for router to hook to the computer, and one for gamecube to hook to the router? Sounds simple.. right?! =D Oh wait, i use PAL Melee... fff.

Will you guys be posting a guide on getting everything set up exactly like on a Gamecube? For example, the controller settings. I've been playing on the emulator for a while now and I'm almost positive my L button isn't set up correctly because I can't tech with it but the shielding seems to work fine o.O And also I guess getting the deadzone etc set up correctly.

Because everyone's controllers and USB adapters are different, it's basically up to the player to configure the controller settings to his/her liking. Some require larger deadzones, some don't support analog shoulder buttons, etc. If you're having trouble teching or something then the timing might be different based on your monitor's input delay.

i think u shouldnt have anounced this so early. would have been better if u announced it close to playable public beta. but its just an opinion

lol that's like saying game developers shouldn't announce games years ahead of time *cough* Diablo 3
It's worth an announcement to say that we are actively working on this. It's not speculative and it's not vaporware. Because we can't predict a release date or even a beta date, we can't time an announcement around it. Furthermore, those interested in our progress can keep up with the dev blog, which would not have been public were it not for the announcement.

Finally, there's a lot going on in both of our lives and we can feel really burned out if a problem frustrates us for days or weeks on end. The hype is part of what keeps us motivated, knowing that the better part of the Melee community is cheering us on. Basically, we announced SSBMO early enough to let people follow our progress but late enough to know that this is something that WILL happen.

sheesh, got quite an optimist here.

So long as it runs better than what the Wii has, haha (= Of course, wishing you guys the best of luck with this, and hope you learn plenty from this process as well. It's great to hear there's many people backing this game going online.

You can't really blame his attitude and poor expectations for others to meet his desires for quality video games. At least, not since barlw.

Lol, there's a difference between being doubtful, and just being plain out pessimistic like earlier in the thread when he said it wasn't going to work. He kind of falls in the latter. I don't know why you could even be pessimistic about this since there hasn't been any (failed) previous attempts like this, there's relatively good progress, and Brawl is irrelevant (Nintendo Wi Fi =/= p2p).
Unless you were joking about that; then I'm DUM

I've been very careful of making grandiose claims about this specifically to keep people from getting too excited. I don't like promising things I can't deliver on, and while failure has always been an option, I am confident that we will be able to deliver something substantial (playable) sometime in the near future.

The product most people will encounter is going to feel like melee with a little (hopefully negligible) bit of lag attached.

As of now, the majority of my effort is going into fixing desyncs and reducing the visible effects of latency, but please keep in mind that some limitations we encounter will not have anything to do with our ability as developers; both the speed of light and the architecture of the internet are the ultimate hindrances to any multiplayer online game.

With that said, feel free to be as pessimistic/nihilistic as you want, we honestly don't need your or anyone else's approval.

I still don't see why people are comparing this to Brawl but okay.
Exactly. We're not Sakurai. We are part of the competitive Melee scene. Our goal is to make you guys happy while Sakurai's goal was to specifically NOT make you guys happy, hehe.

Just in terms of anticipation, of course, nothing else is the same. I am for one rather confident and full of hope about this all, I was explaining his p.o.v. in my earlier post ( I know first-hand, having talked to him about it).
