^ Sadly, there're only a select few people who know how to properly make music hacks, and a majority of them seem to be M.I.A. Not sure where they all ran off to.

There you are, Gardevior... A majority of the CSPs for my textures, seen at my site. Note that a few are missing (Brawl-trophy Mewtwo, Mew, Shiny Mewtwo, Shadow Pichu, Brawl Mario, Brawl Luigi, Dark Young Link, Arceus... I think that's all). Hopefully that won't be too much of a problem.

And nice texture there, Afro_Chris! Not sure why it has black dots, though... Might be the emulator, or something, unless it was actually on the texture.
Would that work, Afro_Chris? I'm afraid it has no .DAT file, but it does contain the majority of my released stuff over at Illusory Labyrinth. Just need to replace the appropriate CSPs in the CSP pack I got up on page 4, and make some TCS using Milun's CSP TCS Creator.

Hummm, You mind supplying the TGA files instead, Afro_Chris? I would like to see for myself what COULD be the problem. Just makes it easier for me to compare if I can hex it myself and... well, contrast. :p

Is your wii hooked up to the ineternet?

Better yet, here's an easy guide that's extremely simple.

Steelia, I think the "placements.txt" for Pink Samus is not the good one.
Can you send me the good placements if you have them please ?
Thanks ^^

@Tichinde925: Bahh, excuses, excuses, trying to use school and midterms and whatnot. :p
Kidding, of course; just got done with a midterm in another class myself . . . Always fun.

All right, upon further inspection, I totally forgot that one of Samus' visors in her Pink file is a lot bigger compared to her others... so... here are the correct placements:

Thanks for the heads-up, Zyx; I was afraid I was missing one of the Samus placements somewhere.

Also, sweet new Pichu Tool, libertyernie! Was going to make a Pichu texture test in a bit, so nice timing. :p
...Though, now that you're around, I wanted to note that there was something wrong with the original Kirby Tool... Whenever I had it hex up a Normal Kirby Mewtwo cap costume, it screwed up the first Eye placement. Mind seeing what's up with that? It hexed the other two (KirbyNr and Purin Kirby) just fine... Just that one was amiss.

Can anyone help me?
If I want to turn one of mp3s into a proper HPS what do I need to exactly?

I need to convert it to L and R channel for wav and then what? What is a loop point... how do I match it with one of the HPS's?

Then what else?
:(

The smash stack link in the second post brings up a trojan warning on my PC (using Avast!) I thought it was weird so i just avoided it.

Really helpful thread.

I've got one question...

Let's say I download a texture called "PlMtNr.dat". This is going to replace the "Neutral" texture for that character, right?

Now, if I wanted to replace a different costume other than the neutral one, can I just rename the file to "PlMtRe.dat" to replace the Red costume instead? Would that work? =/

Hope for an answer =)

xxxxNR.dat are always the character's original costume.

It will definitely not work. Lol including me, im pretty sure everyone has tried to do this.

The only way I got it to work was by copying the hex for the customized NR and pasting it over the original PlMtRe.dat's hex while leaving the final few lines unchanged. It worked for some characters that I did. Not sure if this will work for all characters tho.

@VaNz: I'm afraid Stack Smash has moved under a slightly different name, http://stacksmash.kontek.net/ ... The one posted on Post #2 is a tad outdated. Hopefully we'll be able to get a link change to this instead:

'ey there -tRiNiTy-,
I'm afraid that's not how it works... In Brawl, yes, you could easily do that. But in Melee, you have to transfer all your edited textures onto the other color(s) manually. Kind of sucks, but so far it's the only way to get the job done. Hopefully another day we'll be able to replace any file with any file, but until then you'll need to hex the files into all other color(s) through manual labor.
(Also, watch out -- sometimes the placements for the textures may not be the same in all colors. ;) )

Hmm I see...

Not as easy as in Brawl (word), but still possible though =P

I'm going to try to convert it manually then, let's see how far I can get xD

Thx for the replies though =P

Hi tRiNiTy ! I just send you my SoR stage on Youtube and saw that you are from Luxembourg ! Do you speak French ? Have you got a Melee community in Luxembourg ? Why don't you come to French tournaments ? ^^

@Steelia : Thank you for the placements ^^

Well, I think if we utilized your texture dump offsets, then changing the characters colours might be possible. I'll take a crack at making a program for it, but can anyone tell me what code GodFed's tpl_insert.exe program was made in?

EDIT: I was browsing some dead threads recently, and I found this website:

http://smashbrosfiles.blogspot.com/

Scroll down, and you will find some very VERY useful Melee hack info.

I wrote all my programs in C++.

That's an interesting find, that smashbrosfiles one. I'm not sure if it's anything new, though. :/

I've been bogged down with school and other things the past few months, and I don't think anything's going to let up anytime soon. I kind of just disappeared abruptly from the hack scene, sorry about that. I'll be sure to help with any technical issues, or programmatic things, too, if you guys need it. fyi I started work on a Pl**AJ.dat hack tool, in case you guys thought I was dead or something.

Well there's a new thread out on Melee model hacking: http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=50312 started by Tcll. He seems to know a lot, and I really hope he has more luck than I did, but then again, I'm more off a hack researcher than a coder. Anyway, peace out for the next 3 days. Have fun fighting the evil moon.

I have a question, could we modify the crap out of the iso, then burn it and play it on the wii? Cause im really interested in audio hacks here, 8 years of the same music takes its toll.

Edit: Or just use the HBC's iso loader to run it.

I started to do some textures for Melee myself. Here are some images of my work. So far, I've been able to do the normal textures with minimal issues, but I still need to understand how to work with the indexed textures.

P.S.: The Fox texture is for the red team. The offsets used for Fox's normal outfit also apply to his red outfit.

Haha, those Mewtwo textures are looking ******, Mario_and_Sonic_Guy. So very nice for just starting anew with some Melee stuff. :D

Indexed textures... Always a pain... If you want an idea on how to mess with them, I'd highly recommend checking out ]Syntax Error['s old Brawl hacking guide. It's very similar in hexing as Melee (only, the 32 palette lines are located AFTER the texture rather than the very beginning... depending on the circumstances).

hey S did u ever manage to figure out wat was worng wit the peach texture i made?
'fraid not... Terribly sorry for the delay; haven't been able to do anything texture-related for nearly a week. Been having a LOT to do in classes recently (just finishing 1 midterm, clearing tests in others, with added projects). Closest I've come to textures was a video I uploaded on YouTube, and that was completed last week, too.

Rest assured, I haven't forgotten. I just need to knock some stuff out of the way... Hopefully I'll have the chance to see what's up this Thursday. :)
