are any non top players in our region even getting better?

i played with Meep the other day and he has improved significantly, but i feel like most people just aren't getting better at all. everyone already thinks they're amazing and don't put in any real effort to get better

Cooters worked their ***** off when this game first came out and it showed back then. the average players need to make the effort to play top players more often outside of tourney

i really just think the large majority of md/va lacks a desire to be the best in Brawl

i'm not knocking playing for the love of the game, but the game gets more enjoyable the better you get

edit: i also don't think we have that many solid teams players; when's the last time there was a tourney where more than 2 or 3 teams actually had a shot at winning

I tried Chu :(

Came close - 1 game between 1st/2nd. Wouldn't have it any other way (except coming out on top, of course).

I agree with Chu. I guess this is an MD/VA problem, because I haven't seen this issue (much) in PA/OH. Who the **** wants to get carried to high placings?

i actually agree with chu....its not right to ask someone thats beyond your level to team...b/c it puts them in a very akward position...i mean, wer playing a competitive game, which means we want to win. competition is what makes it fun. when u have 2 good teams playing each other then its fun. if 1 of the teams is gonna be held back from the beginning...we already know who its gonna be and is no longer fun...plus even though its not a main source of income, does that make it right to hold a person off a chance of winning $100 wen he already has the credentials of winning that money and the only is stopping it is YOU, who is taking it away from him just b/c you want a false sense of winning??

then ima gonna hear "hey aren't you teamin with EE whenever you return"
and ima be like "uhhhh are you ******** or something?? me and EE are gonna **** MASSIVE ****!!!!!"

get at team ethnic care bears son!!!!!!!!

ps: chu i swear to God if you do not answer your phone 1 more time ima kill you you lil mexican! >:o >:o
I agree with this.

Im all for having a good time, but ... If you cant be competitive and have a good time than you dont belong in this community. Tournaments are about winning! If you lose but you had a good time any way that makes you a good sport, if you lose and are angry, that means you probably really want to do better. If your angry cause no one good will team with you, because you suck, than you should get better. That being said, nothing is wrong with a crappy player asking, just asking, a good player to team with him. If this situation makes you feel awkward than you probably have communication problems. Its not hard to reject some one as a doubles partner and let them down easily, your not breaking their heart or some ish like that. Good people (who team well together) makes better competition because the matches are closer. This community needs to be recognized as competitive and less whiny if we want to be taken more seriously. So we need better players, playing more exciting matches. Let me reiterate that one more time: better competition is NEEDED, fun on the other hand, we can live with or without it. Besides, the true players are the ones that thrive on the competition anyway.

chu im sorry no one cares about teams in this region except mayb you, forte, korn, and g-reg. I might give up enterting teams cuz my main doesnt do well in them (until i figure out a secondary that is good.) I love us playing in singles. I give you mad respect for randomly stepping ur **** up everytime we play especially when u started picking up mk. I wish i could keep u excited in dooubles but i have to worry about too much **** in that. I hope you get that same challenge in doubles as in singles, but i dont see it happening your waay to dominant in doubles. I guess just always expect free money in doubles and a challenge in singles lol

its just a random rant i forgot what this original post was about im so drunk.

It's either team up with a friend or spectate. Asaph's an all around better player than I am he has the potential to get good. I'm just their to get him into doubles. Even now I hold back Asaph in doubles, He hasn't shown total distain for me yet so I'm gonna continue to team with him.
We're even players, get *****.

All in all, I don't see why any pro would be nice to someone worse than them. You're elite at the game, team with another elite. If a scrub asks you, simply say, "Sorry, I want someone closer to my skill." Sounds awful. But if the scrub gets all offended and pissed off, you've just made it harder for someone who doesn't need to be playing Brawl, smash as a whole even less.

Same goes for the scrub. Any scrub that gets carried to the top or close to with a better player AND gloats, mistaking his good placing for skill, is a great example of failure. THEY don't need to be in the community either.

scrub w/ scrub
pro w/ pro

That's the way it should be. Unless you have some kind of other goal in teaming with someone of less/more skill than you. If that's the case, good luck with whatever you're trying to do.

i meant that in people really wanna win money in singles rather than teams. If everyone had solid teammates instead of switching off every **** week then i would take people more seirously in doubles. Yea my bad i agree people prefer doubles over singles, but arent training for it as hard as singles except a certain few.

then m2k should always team with mango whenever they're at the same tourney. And i think he already does this in brawl(team with the best)

I LOVE playing doubles because it's more of a challenge. You have to keep track of 3 people instead of only 1, you have to know your partner extremely well, and you have to be able to hold your own while aiding your team mate. It's fun for me because I always team with Smash god, so we've developed a good amount of teamwork that allows us to win. For us, its a 2v2. Not two 1v1s in the same match xD

i agree, most people i've teamed with always play melee as if its 2 1v1 instead of a 2v2. most people dont know how to work together.

What a lame thread... competition is great..but when it influences your character you're over-doing it.

For example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbIK8yRqlpc&feature=related

The camera messed up during this match and you whined until your opposition took a stock away. Lozr practically gave more than a stock as you can see from the video as well. I have a huge amount of respect for him for doing this, being that this wasn't a suicide on your part. You could have still gotten back after it was paused, you saw exactly where you were, but you messed up. Whether the camera made your situation SLIGHTLY worse off the edge or not, that fact still stands. I don't see how less than a second of static classifies that as a suicide, sorry dude. It has to be more overwhelmingly obvious than that.

I mean how is it the camera's fault.... did the fraction of a second of static make you totally lay off the j-stick / buttons / doing your get back? I'm not even sure how your placing the blame on the camera.... You were right next to/ above the stage, what a joke. Lozr could have just as easily gimped you than you 'killing yourself' as well.

I think your a little too competitive. It's selfish to be so infatuated with winning to pull stuff like that. But at the same time it made me feel proud that our best (in NC) are cool as ****. He did NOT have to do that. If it was the other way around, PP and lozr wouldn't have asked the other team to give a stock up, and if they did I bet you wouldn't have done it... different attitudes towards the game.

Anyway, i've met you and played friendlies with you before and you were a cool dude. That just really bugged me though, what happened at herb 2, and this thread reminded me of it.

and no, i'm not speaking for lozr or pp...they may feel totally different about the matter.

I think the problem is, it's hard to definate how "good" a person is, at least in melee, in our region, because most players are pretty close to together. Obviously, I'm not as good as chu, but I'm close to a lot of our players. I wouldn't call myself bad at the game, but I'm not amazing either. How do I know who's too good for me to ask? The game doesn't consist of people who are either good or bad.

So first of all, why are good people in MD/VA teaming with ... "not so good" people? I can understand that they want to team with their "friends", but, these "friends" are ruining any chance a good player might have at possibly winning a doubles tournament, placing well, or earning cash. I just think it's dumb. Sure it's fun once in a while, but teaming with someone who isn't that good over and over again is FRUSTRATING since you would have to carry your teammate the whole time at every tournament. I don't see the fun in that. Do people like losing? lolz.
LOL. Some people actually like the challenge of NOT being a part of a stacked team. If you and your teammate are leagues above the competition, how will you get better? Repeatedly gimping scrubs is only fun for so long. I'd rather team with a friend than a top player that I didn't respect (but hey, that's just me).

"Yay! ChuDat and I got 3rd in doubles today!"
- You didn't do anything and you don't have anything to pride yourself in.
Really? Rain on someone's parade that is happy because they placed high for once? Why would you remind them that they suck? Seriously this just makes you look like an ***hole. If you honestly are bothered by a scrub saying this, you need to grow up. Hopefully this is purely hypothetical.

Why do tourney commoners ask good people to team? I'm sure you guys want a chance at winning teams. That's cool, but you do realize you are bringing them down and making them carry you right? I'm not saying it's bad for a person to ask someone like me to team, that's fine.
Is it wrong for someone to want to get a chance to earn some of the money back that they've been dumping into the tourney scene for months (and basically going straight into the pockets of the top players)?

I just feel that people of equal skill level should be teaming with each other. It promotes better competition. Good teams have a chance at placing and having something to pride themselves in. Not so good teams will have something to work on and will continue to improve.
How exactly does M2K/Jman 8 stocking two scrubs promote competition? It really sounds like you just want to be able to win with less effort. I'm sure it's easy to have your stance when you pretty much always walk away from a tourney with a lot of money, but it's selfish.

Well, there's my perspective, Chu. You probably think I hate you now or something, but that's not the case, at all. I'm just pretty surprised that this thread was created.

I think the most fun comes from teaming with someone who's exactly on your skill level in either Melee or Brawl. Learning how to work well with each other and improve takes time and it's a lot of fun if you keep teaming with the same person. I wouldn't want to team with someone way better than me because it's never a good feeling to get carried. You want the win to come from both players so that it wouldn't have been possible without the other to win.
