MD/VA Teams rant (bored)

I just wanted to rant a little bit about MD/VA. First of all, keep in mind I'm ChuDat and I can only see this from my perspective. I've never been a lower class tourney goer before and all my life I've always won tournaments. I'm just ranting to get your guys' perspective on this.

So first of all, why are good people in MD/VA teaming with ... "not so good" people? I can understand that they want to team with their "friends", but, these "friends" are ruining any chance a good player might have at possibly winning a doubles tournament, placing well, or earning cash. I just think it's dumb. Sure it's fun once in a while, but teaming with someone who isn't that good over and over again is FRUSTRATING since you would have to carry your teammate the whole time at every tournament. I don't see the fun in that. Do people like losing? lolz.

"Yay! ChuDat and I got 3rd in doubles today!"
- You didn't do anything and you don't have anything to pride yourself in.

Why do tourney commoners ask good people to team? I'm sure you guys want a chance at winning teams. That's cool, but you do realize you are bringing them down and making them carry you right? I'm not saying it's bad for a person to ask someone like me to team, that's fine.

I just feel that people of equal skill level should be teaming with each other. It promotes better competition. Good teams have a chance at placing and having something to pride themselves in. Not so good teams will have something to work on and will continue to improve.

The fruits of a persons labor is an awesome feeling.

Because its fun

I told Sanoscy for this weekend that if I didn't think we could make money I'd find him a better teammate. But we have fun you know, and I think you improve faster by playing with someone better than yourself as your teammate.

Winning money isn't the most important thing to most people. Otherwise why would they keep going to tourneys where they never win? Because they hope that if they practice enough, someday they might be good enough to win money? There are much better ways to make cash.

Most people go to tourneys because it's fun, and they enjoy the game and the community, even if they have no hope of winning. I mean, everyone wants to do well, but most people aren't going to quit just because they're not making a profit.

I'm making a lot more money playing Brawl+ than I ever did playing Brawl, but even if I wasn't, I would still play Brawl+ over Brawl because I find the game much more enjoyable and I like the community a lot better overall. A lot less silly drama.

As for why average players ask good players to team, of course they just want to do well. That, and a lot of people think they're better than they are, especially in teams. If the good player just wants to have fun with his friend, that's fine, but I don't think they should be offended if the good player refuses because they want to do well and don't want to have to carry their teammate.

i actually agree with chu....its not right to ask someone thats beyond your level to team...b/c it puts them in a very akward position...i mean, wer playing a competitive game, which means we want to win. competition is what makes it fun. when u have 2 good teams playing each other then its fun. if 1 of the teams is gonna be held back from the beginning...we already know who its gonna be and is no longer fun...plus even though its not a main source of income, does that make it right to hold a person off a chance of winning $100 wen he already has the credentials of winning that money and the only is stopping it is YOU, who is taking it away from him just b/c you want a false sense of winning??

then ima gonna hear "hey aren't you teamin with EE whenever you return"
and ima be like "uhhhh are you ******** or something?? me and EE are gonna **** MASSIVE ****!!!!!"

get at team ethnic care bears son!!!!!!!!

ps: chu i swear to God if you do not answer your phone 1 more time ima kill you you lil mexican! >:o >:o

so if someone willing to team with you is better than you, why would you turn them down? You said it yourself, try and get the best possible team you can to increase your chances, maybe some of the better players don't feel as strongly about it as you and think they can win even with a so called "handicap" its still 6 stocks vs 6 stocks.

Some people just don't care, like myself. If I catch a great teamate, awesome. If not I still feel like anything is possible and ESPECIALLY in teams this is true. If I said me and Bandit beat Slik and Turbo in B+ teams 2-0 alot of people would say impossible but it actually happened (we'll just pretend they didn't return from losers with a vengeance XD) An SD by them, or a mistake here and there can turn the tide of a match so quickly.

I think mostly people just like to experiment with combo's of who works well with who. I know one of my close friends and I are TERRIBLE teamates, we have the worst synchronization ever and end up never being on the right page. Also some people just like teaming with certain characters (I like teaming with Zelda's, monkeys, and other mother children) and seem to play better with them.

It doesn't "promote better competition" to always have you and randomH2YL not just win (and this is why you agree to teaming with other players who aren't the best and have in the past I imagine), but conquer most of your matches, more people will enter with a bigger hope to win if there aren't a bunch of teams who are seemingly unbeatable. Are they unbeatable? of course not everyone is but there are some players that just don't keep their chin up. its hard for some players to really think they have a chance, I HATE teaming with people that feel like they'll lose before it begins. (which happened playing you and forte and one of your biweeklys, I wont say who but they didn'ts seem to have any intention of trying like it was just "all in good fun losing") Some players just get depressed seeing "groom blue" or whatever etc etc and I think when you particularly team with others outside of this elite group I guess you only want to team with, you at least give a spark of hope to everyone else and I think THAT will make them try harder and turn out better matches.

I only play B+ now too, I just find it more enjoyable. Maybe all of this makes no sense, but whatever.

Who's more at fault for a loss:

A. The scrub seeking glory by teaming with a pro, and getting carried?
B. The pro carrying the scrub, because he was "too polite" to decline teaming with the scrub?

if u were pro and a weak player asks u to team u dont want to be an ******* but you will still just turn them down. giving in to them and decreasing ur change to 3rd place, ect well thats your fault.

lol this topic coming from the guy who teamed with his FL cousins who ALL lost to lil b in singles

also, a certain member of bride red was carried by another certain member when a certain someone wasn't too great at the beginning of brawl!

on top of that, didn't you team w/ m2k at herb 2 for melee?

let's put it this way. everytime you team with someone OOS that's good, like atomsk, m2k, etc. you're being carried by them, cause NJ/NY ***** MD/VA easily.

apply that to the same situation, except locally.

none of this matter because no one of "skill" wants to take a chance and play with "lesser" people accept for Forte, Hova, Boss(no offense deez). everyone one else truly takes winning in the game to seriously.. and no one is really improving from it.. the mid-tier of this region will ALWAYS be the same in teams because no one "good" has the balls to team with lesser people. thats my way of seeing this stuffs. and no it doesnt promote better competition. because the same names will always be up on the top of the results, how are other people like possibly jj place higher in teams if he is stuck with pulse(just an example). Like maybe boss and Lil b may work.. we will NEVER know because everyone "NEEDS" that $100 dollars from 1st through 3rd which is a shame really.. if winning money is that big of a deal, get a freaking job. i can understand your perspective chu.. but you have to look at it the way EVERYONE should look at it.. its a game winning IS fun and its something to achieve but really its not getting you that much money

not trying to be mean to chu, but your kinda sucking all the fun out of the game. i mean why would a scrub like me keep going to melee tourneys just to get destroyed? its because i love the game and its fun to play, getting destroyed or not.

thats one of the reasons i love smash and hte community, because money or not, it seemed like you could still play the game and have a good time.

having fun with the game has NOTHING to do with this topic....this topic is about someone good teaming with someone not good........of course ppl come to tournies for fun...but you dont need to team with a pro to have fun...b/c if there is a shot of some1 able to make money...they WILL try to win it, and they dont need lesser players to do it

again, nothing wrong if u happend not to be so great at the game...just please dont ask pros to team....b/c chances are your not gonna make money anyways and lose as soon as you fight a team with 2 pros

oath: ppl are suppose to get better by practicing and going to tounies...getting a better partner doesnt have to do anything with that...sure you might place alil higher if u team with a pro...but in reality you put in just as little work as you did when you teamed with someone worse...teaming with some1 better will give you alittle better results...but it doesnt you better at all....getting better is by practicing....and then when you get better your able to team with better ppl b/c you'll be at their level

9thorlower: ny/nj does not **** us in any way LOL....northernVA/MD's top 10 can beat any other regions top 10

me omni meep chu neo boss azen korn PS g-reg forte (named 11 but o well)
no other region can compete with that....and thats with chillin and plank quitting and theres still tons more ppl to choose from that are just as good as the ppl above

plus....me chu boss neo meep won crews at apex :-)

"pro" is people who make enough to live on by playing this game. IE M2K, Ally, Atomsk.

pretty much it.

the old chu won pound 2, when chu was godlike at melee. but now M2K, jman, mango, scar, silent spectre, hell i'd even put tope and cyrain over him. of course he could be good like he used to, but he's too busy playing BARWL.

dang, you were right. dont see how chu is being carried since he's a top player just like m2k though. and dont say "m2k is way better" because you could say M2K carries every teammate hes ever been with.

As a lesser player, I team with my friend because I wouldn't dare ask the good players.
1. Because I'm gonna be a hinderance
2. I'm gonna be the cause of failure, they're there to make money. I'm there to get known.

It's either team up with a friend or spectate. Asaph's an all around better player than I am he has the potential to get good. I'm just their to get him into doubles. Even now I hold back Asaph in doubles, He hasn't shown total distain for me yet so I'm gonna continue to team with him.

I wouldn't expect the higher ups to reach to the bottom of the barrel and pick nobodies like me to team, Infact I'd probably think they were joking, or high, or trying to make a statement about how good they are.

By the logic in the OP, people who don't place in money spots should never go to tourneys again, because they don't make money.

I think that would do two things:

1) Get rid of the concept of improvement;
2) Make sure the people who made money never would again.

People team with friends because they want to see them improve, because they find it enjoyable, or maybe because they like the extra challenge.

Also, teamwork is a big thing. Bum and m2k did worse than bum and velocity, and bum is arguably better than velocity.

the main problem is...

I'm not sure what skill level am I.. D:
Shut up, Korn. You're obviously one of the better players.

Yeah, I only like teaming with people I feel are on the same level as me or higher. It's no offense to those who are lower, but I want to trust and respect my teammate as if he were myself. Knowing that I can play a teams match and not look over my shoulder to see if my teammate is handling enables me to focus on my ****.

I have also teamed with other players just to see how the combination has worked. I also like seeing if I'm a good enough teammate to sometimes carry a teammate, but that's only when large amounts of money isn't on the line.

So I focus on my ****. My teammate focuses on his ****. We're both focused and **** and then we wreck ****.

Oh, and this is why I said I'd only come to tournaments if Chu invites me to be his teammate.

Granted i don't have a ton of skill me and others have teamed with people of lesser skill :s

but newayz... it promotes competition in another way.... "no one good will team with me cause i suck" how do you solve that? stop sucking... get better and don't complain, ask to team for a tourny after you win one... its not the responsibility of a good player to try to make anyone else good.. they already did it for themselves... why should they have to hold someone else's hand? this is a competition not pre-school...

and i've had people tell me no a lot, i just stop asking them to team and try to improve myself... thats the only way to get better teamates... by proving your a smart player that can carry their own... or carry them
