Hey guys I have a huge problem. I can't decide which character to main. Marth or Sheik. I've played Marth for so long and I am way better with him. But I sort of get bored with him and the sword sometimes and now I was thinking of switching my main to Sheik. But Apex 2012 is like two weeks away and I don't know if I should put hard work to catch up with Sheik (I have the time) or keep playing Marth. And I enjoy both almost equally. I really don't know what to do :(

Why don't you stick with Marth before and during Apex, since there's so little time left, and then you'll have all the time in the world to decide after that.

I'm surprised you haven't been introduced to the power of "and".

Why is it that I get bored? Is that normal for everyone's main? I have friends that main like Ganon, Peach, and Pikachu and they never get bored. And I usually win a lot of the matches but I always end up switching to another character because I get bored :/ I don't get it. Have I not found my true main yet?

nah, if you play long enough you'll get bored.

if you get bored enough, you'll wanna push more buttons and play fox/falco.

i'd say go for sheik if she interests you. but if you're better with marth now, then theres still probably new tricks and hitboxes that you haven't messed with enough.

Well this right here might be it. If there's a considerable skill gap causing you to win a solid majority of the matches then you might want more of a challenge or something different to make things more interesting at least which is why you get bored and switch characters. I know when I play people considerably worse than me I rarely will play Falco who's my main, I usually go Pikachu or Falcon. If you played only Sheik for a long while you'll likely get bored with that too if you're still winning a solid majority of the time and switch again. Its not really a bad thing to experiment with other characters and if you really do enjoy playing Marth after a short while you'll probably go back and play him and it will be fun again.

if you get bored playing this game with any character than you're not being creative enough

I felt the same way when I only had to play way worse players than me. With my main I was able to 4-Stock them when I wanted to and always tapping your opponents becomes boring after a while. So I went through some other characters and "mained" them for a while. I think it helped me a lot because every character has it's strenghts which you should exploit and therefore are honing specific skills (for example Fox -> techskill / faster fingers or Jigglypuff -> spacing / patience)

In the long run it won't hurt you to test around and especially in your case I would recommend to force yourself to stick with marth for 1-2 weeks STRAIGHT and then with Sheik (depending on how long you actually play). This helps you to fully understand why you (don't) want to main the particular character because you will (hopefully) exploit everything they have after that time. I've done that too and it showed me the strengths and weaknesses of the characters really well and based on that I could easily make a decision.

Hope that helped ;)

No, wanting to switch characters frequently is probably just a personal trait of yours - it has nothing to do with not having found a "true main". I'm like that myself.

Thank you Based Mimi.
I probably wouldn't switch right before a tournament, but if you're that bored, then try Sheik. I think they're both really fun.

I would go both. Use Marth as your main, and Sheik as your secondary. Use Sheik against Marth's bad matchups; Sheik and Peach at least. Though there is still problem named Jigglypuff, not sure which one (Sheik or Marth) is better against her. But yeah, definitely go sheik vs sheik's and maybe also against Peach's. I think Marth can do "fine" against c.falcon, but if it comes too much of a problem, you could use Sheik against him also, since it should be easier to sheik in todays metagame at least.

you're not thinking/experimenting enough if you're getting bored. being bored is for lazy people. if you have the ambition of improving with a character, and you don't worry about silly things like failure, your opponent's opinions or whatever, you will be more conscious of minute details and your mind will be more open to find new ideas. even if you're just playing on your own. if you're playing with people way worse than you, then don't take advantage of them the same way every time, find new ways to **** them up even if you get hit more in the process. it's not hard to branch out but you have to sacrifice your self-preserving restrictions, such as winning through minimum risk.

i don't understand how people get bored with their mains. ESPECIALLY if its falcon or marth. there's always something new to explore with such awesome characters.

Lol @ the people saying you shouldn't get bored. Some people like getting a a new or different experience. And no, trying new stuff with the same character is not a completely different experience, don't try to pretend it is.

he's not pretending. finding new punishes to old habits that you see from your opponents is a great way to find both new combos and keep the game interesting.

sometimes i do get bored with ganon. but i swear that guy only has 1 right answer sometimes. but i still think i need to do more of what za'atar is recommending. wish we coulda played last weekend...

I know you can find new things with the same character. My point is that even if you do, it's still the same character with the same feel, same moveset, same strengths and weaknesses, and I want to mix up sometimes. It's cool if you don't feel the same way, but don't say one "shouldn't" get bored of playing the same character.
