I'm a translator too, and saying that he's a "continuing character" could just refer to the fact that he's been in the first two games. But who knows exactly?
I did consider that a possibility...but I really think that it would be していた in that case.
However, given that SSBB isn't technically out yet, maybe that's why...but I doubt it. It wouldnt make sense to say "This character is a continuing fighter for the SSB series" without some kind of "..........except this one."

That supports my argument.

"One that came before you" =/= "one that came before you that you replace"

The connotation of the English word "predecessor" can suggest replacement, but is this the case with the Japanese word?
It's the same as if you'd read it in English. Though the feeling of "someone that came before you" is more prominent than "one that took your spot" is in English. Even in English, it didn't come across like that to me.

You know, some kind of 2chan thread about the Ness picture would be nice. I very much doubt they're arguing over symantics.

What I find odd is that they have Ness, Marth, and Roy's Melee form in those pictures. I am just saying that if they were in Brawl why not just show their Brawl forms like they did with Sheik? (I am not saying that they are in or out of Brawl, just it is really odd.) They put three articles of these characters(Melee forms) when they could have easily just come out and tell us they are in, after all they are veterans and it wouldn't be too big of a surprise to just confirm them.

Well thank you for clearing that up for me.

I'm saying they are gone...

But I think we should get SamuraiPanda on this...
Don't get me wrong--SP has been helpful. But Yoshi is just as qualified a translator, and I don't think his translations should be dismissed as "less than acceptable." The translations I did were slightly inaccurate, but very close to what Yoshi finally came up with. I dunno what was posted before the work that Yoshi and I did, but what is currently up is our final product.

In short: we don't need SP if we have other translators around, and Yoshi, WeeklyJumpman, and Kokichi (among others) all fit the bill quite nicely. All are well-versed enough in both English and Japanese to serve as great translators. :bigthumbu

(And just to clarify, I'm just behind-the-scenes from time to time; I'm not responsible for what Chris puts up on the site itself. ;))

I'm a translator too, and saying that he's a "continuing character" could just refer to the fact that he's been in the first two games. But who knows exactly?

Why can't somebody tell us who the other "Do you Remember" characters are?
If there's a Luigi one, then that'll prove that this doesn't mean anything;
Because Luigi's in Brawl, undisagreeably.
Luigi would be a good indicator, or Captain Falcon on Samurai Goroh's page. I'm also curious if Falco is on Fox's page.

Quoted for the truth. I guess the only way to find out is by having Ike and Marth fight. the only thing i dont like about this is that, now if marth comes back, roy will too -_-
nah, Roy wont be back(Unless he gets his own moveset btw, wich would be cool)

Ok so maybe Roy's still in, but not as a clone, thats a fact.

Oh, of course Doc, Pichu, Y.Link, and Falco are in over those three.

You're an idiot. Marth will be in.

Also, Ness is posted on Lucas's History Page. Marth and Roy are posted on Ike's history page. If they were PC's, wouldn't they have their own history sections?

Not if they aren't confirmed by the DOJO yet...What I understand is that either both are out, or both are in.

Why would they? They haven't been revealed yet... They're probably just doing the revealed characters for now.

No, because they haven't been revealed yet. Keep in mind that Sakurai SUPERVISED THIS GUIDE. So whatever is in it is what HE wanted in it. That's why it's really revealed nothing whatsoever.

this doesn't prove anything. Ness has everything going against him, so yeah he probably is r ight, but this doesn't prove it, same with Roy.

Marth has nothing going against him and this article says nothing about him not being in the game.

Probably the wisest words I've heard on this situation.

Yeah, it's possible that the words refer to Marth and Roy being lords before Ike was even conceived. But for them to come out and talk about them in this fashion is ill-boding for these characters, to say the least.

So while they're not necessarily deconfirmed, their chances are now slim, to say the least.

No offense to the quoted, but they aren't wise at all. Whether or not they're in or out, there's NO way Sakurai would let Famitsu give them their own history page before they've been confirmed/deconfirmed. It's just common sense. The bottom line is, he's either hinting that they'll be back, or hinting that they won't. It's not confirmation, just like Ganondorf being originally shown as just a trophy in Melee wasn't confirmation that he wasn't playable.

THOSE were probably the wisest words I've heard on this situation.

Seriously, though. They were.

We don't need Ness because Lucas is a better version of him.

We don't need Marth or Roy because Ike is a better version than them.

Seriously, we don't need these characters because the last thing Sakurai needs to do is risk having another clone-like character in the game. We don't need more of what we already have guys, quit debating about it already. We have our psychic boy in a striped shirt (possibly another psychic being Mewtwo) and we have several swordsmans.

Why are you people getting so angry? It's not like they decomfirmed anyone good. :D

In all seriousness, I think they're axing the three of them (Which may be a good thing, because that leaves the door open for another FE Rep - Micaiah). Where's the Pichu and Doc Mario decomfirmation?

Ike has nothing in common with Marth other than being from the same series, so no, he's not a 'better version' of Marth.

Well, this is the typical fashion for causing ambiguity and suspicion....but because Ike also has a Marth color swap variant, this is just about 100% real to me.

This does not make any sense, though. First of all, not only does the article in NO WAY "deconfirms" the characters, but at least for Marth's sake, it makes little sense.

Marth IS Mr. Fire Emblem in Japan. He might as well be in the States too, considering he's the first one people got to know through Melee/DX. Sakurai would be a fool to toss aside some one who is as loved as Marth, ESPECIALLY considering he's got a new game coming up (FE1 remake for the DS).

So, in the end, the articles prove nothing.

I ask the same quesiton.

We just have images of those three for now. Lucas and Ike (and all other characters) have a "history" section for each of them. Ness is in the Mother/Lucas section and Marth/Roy are in the Fire Emblem/Ike section.

Then why put them in the magazine at all? If Sakurai doesn't want them in there, then he could just say "don't mention them in the booklet". Nobody would have been at all suprised to see unconfirmed characters absent from the book. Nobody thinks they are somehow obligated to write some cryptic message about Ridley or Krystal or Geno in those 200-some-odd pages.

Every confirmed character has pages and pages of movesets, detailed histories, new screenshots, the works. These guys have shots taken from Melee and a couple sentences that ultimately amount to "Remember when these guys used to be in the last game?" And two of the three were already all but confirmed to be cut...and Marth shares a screenshot with one of them. Unless there is a conspiracy and they are deliberately trying to trick us, there is an overwhelmingly strong implication that these characters are removed. If that implication was considered undesirable, it could have been prevented by simply not including those little blurbs. It's just common sense.

I'd like Marth, Roy AND Micaiah in personally. But since that's not gonna happen I'd settle for Marth (since Roy is probably gone thanks to being unpopular in Japan, jerks) and I'd like Micaiah.
