Yeah, they're good but not that good. The match-up doesn't bother me that much, but I'd rather go Falco or something to be safe.

The result thread says 25 entrants, but there were some people not added due to them not playing entrance fee. We let a few people get in for free, lol. They all placed pretty low though.

I used Mario/Link about the same here. There were ALOT of Snake players so I used Link quite often in the middle of the tourney, although I did beat one of those Snake's with Mario.

Went? Dude the TO, his two friends and I went there on Friday Night, stayed there overnight to set up the place and practice a little and slept IN THE SKI BALL TABLE THINGS. I was there for two days doing nothing but Brawl, eating Burger King, and drinking Mango Fuze. I was living the dream.

lucario seems right for me, he was my first brawl character and i feel im the best with him (PLUS everyone says my mario is a beast, BUT my lucario is WAAY BEASTIER).

Why does everyone think this? Go to Offline tourneys and tell me if you can make it very far only using Mario. I'd be impressed if you do. Its all fun and games until you run into a DDD at equal skill level as you or better. Secondaries are very important in this case. Look at Boss. He has Luigi and G&W for all his bad Mario match ups. Monk: Snake, Jo P: Diddy Kong, Me: R.O.B, Peach. etc

And Dory don't quit Mario. Everyone just needs to keep in mind that Mario can't beat everyone. Lucario is an excellent secondary, but if you have more fun using Lucario then that's fine.

VatoBreak, use your secondaries man. You use Characters that can back up your Mario very well. If you are still not doing well that that's just you, not Mario. Just practice then.

Well, I can't attend tournaments til next year, so I can't answer that question. And yea, your going to have to CP facing those characters, sadly enough, Mario like every character has a bad match-up.

I know right now, I'm obviously not good enough to win a tournament with any given character. Ever. I'll still go vs GW, and DDD with Mario for that reason. Why not just go pure Mario (attempt to get top 8) and get some tournament points, proving he's viable, etc. At least I'll be doing something.

I feel like i really have to now. My mario is not that good and mario is not that good of a character, so if you put those together, thats a bad combo. Im not boss, i cant beat top tier mainers who know what theyre doing with mario anymore. sure my mario is ok, but ok doesnt it cut it when there are tons of g&w, mk, ddd, falco, marth, and even snake (i hate that match up >.>) EVERYWHERE you go in socal. my lucario in the other hand might be better in just comparison. he was my first main and i know him and play him sooooo well. and lucario does great against Mk, falco, marth and snake (even though the lucario boards say those are all bad matchups but i just love fighting those chars with lucario) and he does decent against g&w and ddd. and in crew battles at SD, i came into to counter Larry/DEHF (who got second at the 280+ man tourney and beat DSF in winners finals, ps DSF got 3rd, DEHF 2nd and Fiction 1st) and took his one stock of him. and then they countered me with DSF knowing i just started repicking up my lucario. i had 2 stocks and he came in with 3, and i took one of him, almost 2 >.>

but yea just endnote:

I feel my lucario is better and he is just an overall better character....

That's the thing. Boss, Monk, Me, Dory, Tc1, Matador and others already made that point. In a mist of competition. Using Mario without a secondary will most likely get you no where. Especially in areas like NorCal, and NY. A solid back pocket secondary will save your butt. You never know when you're paired against a decent or good Snake earlier than you thought in brackets and he sends you to loser's brackets just because you went Mario both matches, thus limiting your chances of even getting top 8.

When I used to be tourney active in SoCal, I ran into other Mario mains(Not Dory or Vato though), and they all got laughed at for using Mario's(except me of course ^^), it's usually something like "LOL at Mario, not even gonna bother trying".

No johns, that isn't just SoCal. Everywhere you go, there are tons of top/high tier mains. That's why they're top/high tier after all. People like to win, so they go with who will give them that. That's consistent for competitive gaming altogether

I can't play just Mario in tournaments, the only reason I placed 5th this over the weekend was because I used Link against my more difficult match ups as Mario, mainly Snake. (I played 3 in row. ._.) I managed to beat one Snake as Mario but it almost got me knocked out, sure my other mains aren't High Tier or anything (They're actually all Low tier, lmao.) but they help me in certain match ups I just can't do as Mario most of the time.

Link > Snake/GnW, the match ups are winnable as Mario but Link makes it much easier. I also use Link against Marth/Ike on occasion.

Pokemon Trainer > Haven't really found a character that PT fairs better against that Mario quite yet.

Samus > D3. I like Zair'ing his beak off and having a reliable recovery, though killing him presents itself as a problem.

I doubt I'll ever use a secondary in tourney.

Perhaps it's just me, but if I had Boss' Mario, I doubt I'd need much else to place well enough to make a difference. That's where I'm trying to be. If I can place well without the help of a secondary like Malcolm or Snakeee, SBR will notice and Mario will rise. That's the way I see it, anyway.

It doesn't seem like some intangible goal either.

Just do what I do...Mario...if I lose, Snake at the Mansion...If I win and they CP the mansion...Snake
