Manual or Electric Can Opener?

Growing up, my entire family always had electric can openers in their kitchens. When one broke, you went out and got another, it was just a sure thing. I'd never given any thought to it being any other way. When I moved into my wife's house, though, her family had always used manual can openers. It wasn't a huge thing, but it was then that I realized how much of a luxury something like that really could be.

So how is it where you live?

They have electric can openers? ZOMG!!!! O_o

Really, though, we've always had a manual can opener. We never saw the need to get an autom.....

What made you create this topic....why am I posting in it? This place is weird.

I hate how you open the can, and you can't lift the lid. You know what I mean?

Anyways, on topic: I've never used an electric can opener before. O.o

What a waste of electricity, resources, and technical expertise.
Get stuck in, go manual.

I've always had both, but why would I use the hand can openers when I have an electric one? =/

If there was ever a combination of words that fit succinctly together they would be "open can lid" and "slice".

The electric ones seem safer, though I only own the manual crank type ones.

I've never used an electric can opener.....I should because I'm always afraid of cutting myself on jagged can ends.

I was opening a can of Wal-Mart brand spaghetti and meatballs.
This caught my eye more than anything... Wal-mart has it's own brand of food?! I didn't know this, I have learned something new today. I dont know why I'm so surprised because every other chain does....I don't know, Pool room makes me weird.

Well...it's called "Great Value", but it's manufactured for the Wal-Mart corporation, so I guess that qualifies it as store brand...

I've always used manual ones. Even after my family got an electric one. I dunno, but I never bothered to learn how to use the electric one. I have a great distrust of it. Plus, the sound it makes is annoying. :ohwell:

I open cans with my teeth.

In all seriousness, we've always used manual ones. They're reliable and won't break, and don't take much effort to use.

The major problem I've always had with electric can openers was that when it was done cutting the lid off, it would often drop the can, so you had to watch carefully and grab it before it was done to prevent a mess. The mechanism put in place to prevent this just never worked for me.

How about those ridiculous ones you just put on top of the can and it spins itself?

Dumbest topic of 09? Very possibly.

Oh and manual all the way.

If you can't manually open a can, then you don't deserve to use an electric opener. You will never eat beans.

Electric all the way. I never used a manual for the longest time and I had no idea how to work it at first. D=

I've never used an electric one but the manual ones tend to get rusty and break pretty easily. I'm always tryin to keep the lil parts clean as I can to make them last longer but we still go through them pretty quick.

My family has always had electric ones. The newest one we have is a pain to use though.
