Anyway, besides no sales in the US, it just doesn't seem like they make any at all...even in Japan. There have been what? 3 or 4? in about 15 years time at least? That just seems really low. I'm not sure why it is.

I don't play Megaman. But even in comparison to Zelda it's relatively few. And I'm fairly certain it takes a lot longer to make a Zelda game than a Mother game. Maybe it's just the fact that they have less people working on the project...
I'm just curious. They don't seem to push it much...or at all.
But anywho, that Pig Robot thingy? It's VERY reminiscent of Mother 3's relatively-technologically-advanced "Pig Army". I'm not sure if that enemy is directly drawn from the game, but that wouldn't stop the idea from originating from Mother 3.
Mother and EB are different games. The Japanese versions of this game series that never get released in the US translate to "Mother." Lucas is from Mother 3, not EB...whatever.
The item appeared in every Mother game so far.
I've heard one fan claim it's designed after a promotional item for the first Mother game.

How stupid are some of you people. Did you not hear about over one thousand times ALL OF THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS ARE STAYING!!!. Was that clear? NESS IS AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER! Is it more clear? I really hope so. Cause if that doesn't get through maybe a Falcon Punch to the nose by Chris Redfield would make it clear.

Ness is always confirmed. The thing the get yet confirmed is another Mother character. Not a **** replacement for Ness. But another character from the MOther series. Why would they take out the original characters? If they did take out the freakin Pokemon for all I care.
The fact that you like him doesn't make him any more guaranteed. So don't act arrogant, please. Thanks.
And I guess if it really played such a big role for Lucas in the end, that's another tiny hint towards him. The role it played for Ness was relatively minor... well, relatively. I can't really compare since I never played Mother 3. *shrugs*

I love ness, and I am not speculating his return just by my hope. I think it will happen because:
1. He was in the other 2 SSB
2. Earthbound is known worldwide
3. Franklin Badge did serve a role against the Mani Mani statue, one of the most memorable bosses from earthbound.
Lucas, though I never played Mother 3, I don't think is very well known.
They took a gamble when they put in Marth and Roy in SSBM, and they got lucky that people loved them. But if Lucas operates similar to that of Ness, I don't think people are going to like him very much.
I knew this thread was so getting a bump. Considering the story of Mother 3, I'd say it could hint more towards Lucas, but who knows... it's certainly iconic though.
Nonsense, Lucas and Ness even share the 99% of PSI, stats and use the same weapons.
Ninten, Ness and Lucas are all the same character in skills and stats, it will be nearly impossible to make them different without using PSI that they never acquired, like PSI FIRE and PSI Thunder for Ness in Smash Bros.
However, somebody already though about the skins idea, having both characters as one, just selecting between them before the battle.
I think the most interesting MOTHER addition would be Masked Man. Not the usual MOTHER fare, not relying on PSI too much, with an interesting array of sword moves, martial arts and militar tactics, even a laser projectile. Plus an awesome array of predestined battles and events based on MOTHER 3.
The name Masked Man will simply avoid the spoilers. You won't know anything about it until you play a certain amount of time. Like trophies. So just the most avid Masked Man players will see the truth. There are many creative ways of avoiding the spoilers.
For example... (Spoilers)
Event XXX: You play as Lucas, and the enemy is Masked Man. You can't hurt him, and there are only Franklin Badges on. You have to pick the badges and reflect the projectiles back to Masked Man.
Anyway, I'm sure Sakurai can think of many ways to differentiate Ness from Lucas. Who knows what he might pull either way... I hope we get another Mother update next week though. Mother 3 music would be kick ***.
Just to clarify, I wasn't addressing you. I apologize if I was unclear.
I guess the chances for Ness and Lucas are pretty much equal... but I can't see them both happening. In fact, I doubt that we'll even get two characters. Some people thought Earthbound would not be repped anymore at all...
Someone said, in another thread, I think, that Lucas wouldn't really advertise his franchise well if he's played like Ness in Melee... unlike Marth and Roy, who were powerful and easy to pick up. On the other hand, Ness was top-tier material in the original game.
Also, keep in mind the new Adventure Mode... it will have character development and stuff. I'm sure such a story could be used easily to make a character appear interesting...
What? His main weapon are sticks, fighting sticks, not bats or yo-yos (although he can use them). I'm pretty sure you don't use a stick like a bat. Ness doesn't have the attack "Psycho-Counter" and Lucas has only one type of PSI Flash, and since Ness doesn't use teleport or hypnosis they could give those moves to Lucas.
Also, Lucas can physically attack up to 16 times in a turn, which means that he's fast. On the othe hand, Ness is supremely powerful and often does more damage with a single hit with the bat than Lucas hitting all 16 times.
Also, keep in mind the new Adventure Mode... it will have character development and stuff. I'm sure such a story could be used easily to make a character appear interesting...
very true. However making a connection between ness and any other character is far beyond my imagination. unless mario stumbled into onett one day or something like that.
and because Mother 3 is an exclusive to Japan, it would be even harder to make those connections for people who don't know the series.
I'm sure they'll find ways to connect all the characters. I mean, there's no way I can picture them connecting Pit and... Wario, but it will all be "explained".
The parties from M2/M3 could form a part of the advenuture, as well as Pokey and The Masked Man. Well, the latter two more than the parties, but you get the idea. Besides, Pokey can time travel, dimension shifting is just one step away XD
Well if we swap out Ness for Lucas then we might end up with only one Mother character again.
But.... if we keep in a veteran like Ness we might be able to get another Mother character added into the roster. Maybe two? I definitely prefer Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo over the Mother 3 cast.
Seriously, just add in Ness and (one of Ness's friends) to the roster. That's all we need for the Mother cast. Theres no point in bringing out another Mother game onto the roster.
