Logical choices for backup characters

I inadvertently ended up copying Taj: Marth and M2.

Marth main, M2 if I'm vs. floaties (for some reason I just can't handle em with Marth, and my M2 somehow does better)

I've tried spacies but can't do that to save my life, tried the floaties but they're too floaty, tried CF and didn't like him at all, tried Shiek and found him strangely awkward.

Th point of this thread was to find out logical second characters to follow mains if the main is counterpicked or put is facing a very poor situation. Somehow it was turned to me playing falco which is fine but more info on the real topic would be nice even though I pretty much am getting the gist of this

I play Sheik as a main and Marth as a secondary. I figure Marth covers the spacies and Sheik covers... everything else.

I main jiggs and second marth, pretty much the same spacing arials but i feel most of my MUs are covered by jiggs, if a fox or falco is giving me too much trouble, I may go marth,

plus marth is 1186x more fun to play as

Then why the hell do you main Jiggs?

I main Captain Falcon, don't have too much trouble vs spacies, more against Sheik so I switch to a spacie occasionally against Sheiks.

If you have a problem matchup, there's a 88.461538% chance Sheik will cover it.

the perfect combo imo is maining sheik, and secondary a fox specialized for fox dittos on fox stages (maybe falco too if you don't like that matchup either)

low tiers get chaingrabbed, falcon/marth/peach are all fine matchups, fox is a douche so you might as well cg him too as fox (and learn some other important fox stuff)

Fox Sheik is good.

An opposing Sheik can be bothersome for that mix though, IMO. I don't think Fox Sheik is that bad for Sheik at all. And Sheik dittos are random. It's still a very potent mix though.

Fox Falco is classic.

Falco Sheik is good.

Marth Fox is classic.

I think Jigglypuff potentially makes an awesome backup for Fox because she plays well on a lot of stages Fox feels uncomfortable on and does relatively well vs Falco, Samus, and some other matchups that are difficult, easy to be uncomfortable in, or strange for Fox. But it doesn't really see play.
