I'd also love it if he were to recover health like in his games, via Down special (or a taunt!). Even if it's just 1% per second. Something useful to do while I wait for my opponent to reach me again.
Make it similar to the Project M team's take on Toon Link (his down taunt in particular)? I can live with that.

I'd much prefer making it similar to Project M's neutral special for Ivysaur, where health is recovered for as long as you hold down the button, as opposed to a fixed percentage.

I really don't see the big deal with having the Star Punch as the Up B move. It makes the most sense that way...

As generic as it might seem, Up B being the Star Uppercut makes sense.

Why else could it be?

Note that Grounded Up+b could be the allpowerful uppercut known as starpunch, while aerial up+b could be a jumping uppercut.

More proof of the stage being from Punch Out!! Check out the similarities between this and the Smash stage, specifically the color scheme. Also, there's a Donkey Kong image on his character page that seems to emphasize the boxing ring stage for Smash Bros.

Even better, the ropes for the Minor Circuit are the same specific color scheme as the Smash "Circuit" stage. At this point really I think we're just waiting for Mac Baby to show up as an update or something.

I hope his trailer is HYPEworthy. And I mean almost to Mega Man levels!

I want something heartwarming when it begins.. such as a scene of a recently retired Little Mac looking down at a picture of him and Doc Louis, celebrating his becoming a champion.

Then getting a letter invitation, Mac dropping it, then getting his boxing gear ready.

"Liitle Mac: Punches Out to the ring!"

and then a mind-melting, head-asploding AWESOME series of fight scenes all the way through the middle to the end where he finishes with a Final Smash.

A sorta vague interpretation of my ideal Little Mac trailer. :3

My biggest hope for Mac is that Doc pulls a PT with his character. Not so that it detracts from Mac's own character, but because Doc cheering on Mac is an important element of the games, and to not have that in this situation where Mac arguably needs it most, i.e. going head-to-head against Ridley, Bowser, GDorf, just doesn't make sense.

Maybe that could factor into one of Mac's moves or something, but really I just want Doc there to be as true to the series as possible.

I know this has been brought up before (I've brought it up before) but Mac's been on my mind recently so yeah. I dunno, what do YOU guys think is your ideal situation with Doc?

If Little Mac can play like a cross between Dudley and Balrog I'd be excited. I've never been a big fan of Little Mac, but the ring stage really does make him a little more appealing than before.

I'd see a style more like Steve Fox. After all, Namco is helping with the game.

Yeah, I'm thinking for non-iconic moves like Star Punch, use Dudley and Steve as inspiration. Balrog less so, just because of their difference in philosophy and Balrog's play style being dirtier.

Dudley though... :shades:

I think little mac should be built around the idea of punishing the opponent's mistakes. I'm lacking on ideas of how to translate that to gameplay style though.

^Basically like Marth, right?

If I remember right Dudley was a great punisher in Street Fighter 3 as well. But yeah, punishing fits Mac. That's essentially what he does in Punch Out.

I would LOVE for Little Mac to sport a recovery move, as mentioned before... since it's been a staple of Punch Out since the NES days. But in a more realistic Special Moveset, I see something like:

Up+B: Star Punch
B: Dizzy Punch (a slow punch that puts opponent in a shorter shield-broken status, like Mewtwo's Down+B)
Tilt+B: Sidestep Punch (Vanessa / Dudley)
Down+B: Counterpunch (Similar to Marth's counter)

As for Doc.. Yeah, I'd love Doc Loius to pull a Pokemon Trainer in the background. Every taunt should have Doc Loius yell something, otherwise it will get on everyone's nerves like Pokemon Trainer.
A codec-like situation would also be great, especially in the Boxing Ring stage.

A special conversation taunt for Doc ala Star Fox and MGS is something so amazing that it needs to happen.

And if it doesn't, I'm holding all of you responsible for getting my hopes up.

Little Mac's stage intro. What do you guys think?

I'm thinking running into the stage following Doc in his bycicle, then he drops the Pink outfit as Doc nods his head and rides away.
(Based on the training scene)

I'm thinking and hoping that it's going to work like this:

Mac and Doc run onto stage with the Bike and Pink jacket. Doc then gives Mac a high five or a something and steps into the background.

Or alternatively, they just sort of appear, and Doc massages Mac's shhoulders, saying something like "Go get 'em, Mac baby, haha!" and then walking back into the background as Mac pumps his fists.

That, or Shin-head's.

I think Doc could work extremely well as the "PT" man behind the man aspect of Mac's character. He could say specific quotes after every KO/death.

Fighting :dk:
"Listen up, son! If you're havin' trouble...Maybe I should call my plumber! Ha ha ha!"

Doc Louis will of course ride his bicycle as Little Mac's final Smash.
"WATCH OUT MAC BABY, I'M ON A ROLL !!!"
Mac puts on his Pink Suit, then you control Doc on his bike, running over players (you'd be able to jump with the bike), Mac would automaticly follow Doc.

There needs to be an event with both DK AND Mario, since Mario was his referee once.

Getting a bit impatient over here. XD I know we JUST got a good ammount of news, but anxiety is eating me up.

Little Mac sure got a popularity boost since E3. Maybe it's because he's a new series or maybe the ring stage makes everyone think it's his.

I just had a thought about a possible Little Mac announcement trailer, given how much the team seems to like trolling us.

In game footage of characters are fighting in the new boxing ring stage. An assist trophy appears, and someone grabs it. Little Mac comes out, and our collective hearts break everywhere as we see his movement and behavior are identical to his Brawl AT.

Then the camera angle shifts and the shot transitions into CGI as Little Mac turns on the character who summoned him, socking him in the jaw. "Little Mac steps into the ring!" Cue rest of gameplay trailer with Little Mac kicking ass punching face.

I dunno. I can see them possibly using any newcomers who used to be ATs in this way.

Intro Trailer:

It starts out like a bait-and-switch. Doc Louis is massaging Little Mac's shoulders. "You've gotta win this competition. Go for the gold. You've fought them before, you can do it again." The bike is riding down the street, a silhouetted Little Mac is following, he gears up, not showing his face, and Doc Louis walks up to him. "You forgot this." and hands him an open envelope. He runs off and Doc Louis throws away the envelope, showing the Smash Seal. You see Little Mac gameplay with Doc Louis on the sidelines cheering him on. In the boxing stage, you see Bowser and DK serve Little Mac a huge hit. Little Mac falls backwards and Doc Louis comes up to the ring. He massages Little Mac and says "Give em' a taste of what's to come" and hands him a Smash Ball. Little Mac becomes Giga Mac and charges at them. Screen goes black.

Did anyone feel a LITTLE worried by Sakurai's statement?

Something I think that people noticed in the movies and screenshots released is that the villager and trainer were not choices we made for the sake of cheap novelty. Each has their own unique attacks and battle strategies, and they make the game more interesting. If I have an image of a character in my mind that dances around and jibes with what I want, then that's the most important thing. On the other hand, even if you have a character suited for a fighting game, if you can't make him stick out from the pack and extract something unique from him, then what can you do?

For Mega Man as well, if all we cared about was who we could get in the game, then he would just have regular old punches and kicks, like how he largely does in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. But Mega Man's most unique trait is how he gains new attacks from bosses. Working that fully into the game results in a more complete Mega Man that we can give you. That's why he's done up in NES-era proportions rather than something more realistic; that's why he's a little expressionless; that's why his jumping and damage motions and the way he can fire the Mega Buster while walking are all what they are. It's all in an effort to present the character.
Well personally, I got worried at first, but then I saw that what he's trying to come across is... to not reduce the "unique" factor of a character, to give them generic punching and kicking, like in Marvel Vs Capcom.

But Little Mac. being the king of strategies, could certainly pose a lively and unique moveset.

I want to see dizzying punches, shieldbreaking blows, counterpunches, dodge+punching. I even thought of a "lag punch" move, that basically makes your opponent's button input slightly delayed.

I'm sure Sakurai and Namco Bandai will know how to implement Mac. There is NO excuse if they've got the tools and the right people!

Little Mac is probably the only character I feel should be in the game no matter what (besides Skull Kid, but that's more of a fanboy wish than anything else and probably isn't all that likely, since he missed his chance in Melee) but admittedly I'm not seeing much moveset potential for him. idk, the Smash team is obviously far more creative than I am (which really isn't all that hard since I don't have a single creative bone in my body), but I'm not holding my breath for him in case it ends in disappointment. He's more than iconic enough to be included, but I can see him not making it in. That said, if he does make it in, then I'll rejoice just like everybody else. A boxing style of gameplay could be quite interesting if done correctly, so hopefully his portrayal does the character justice.

When it comes to a Counter Punch, I wouldn't want it to work like Marth's/Ike's counters.
I'd rather have ot work this way:

Counter Punch:
Hit an opponent while he/she is in the start up of an attacking move to stun them and make them dizzy.

Exactly!

I love this idea. It's not like Little Mac works that way anyway. But making them Dizzy as a counterpunch is PERFECT for his style. Then one could follow up with a smash attack, or whatever.

I reckon Little Mac will be a fast-weak type. But the Counterpunch will be integral to his playstyle.
My only concern is how would this work on air? There is no air-stun status. Unless it leaves the opponent in a Helpless state (which in contrast, would be extremely OP) but on the other hand... it would put a LOT of pressure on his opponents when Mac goes out to get them outside the platforms.

A pressure fighter.... I like that.

I always thought LM's reveal should start out with a quiet training montage. Just show him silently going through all his exercises for most of the trailer, then show him sit down for a second, breathe, then pick up a letter....cue gameplay.

That would make this move have ridiculously high priority, right?

And fast! And it would be a special!

It wouldn't work on grabs, though. I recall never being able to counterpunch Aran Ryan in Super Punch Out, nor Bear Hugger/King Hippo's hug attacks.

They'd have to come up with Air Grabs, or this move wouldn't work on air... So it's either very OP or very UP. It's up to team Sakurai to balance it perfectly. XD
