I'm gonna *also* say that they need to have THIS beastly theme in there. I think it works as the one "off-kilter" track, especially given the nature of the boxing ring stage.

Plus Bear Hugger is an underappreciated Canadian G.

Bear Hugger should totally be our Prime Minister. I'd vote for him. :smirk:

I heartily endorse this event or product.
I'm pretty sure Toise's approval was the only thing holding Sakurai back from unveiling Little Mac. Now that we've got it, he should show up any day now. ;)

I see a lot of good ideas in this thread.
I think I'll contribute, too.

----------------------------------------------

Neutral B -Bald Bull's Bull Rush: Hold to increase power and distance.

Up B - Mac's Star Punch: Similar to Luigi's Up B, but the sweetspot is at the peak of the jump.

Side B - Aran Ryan's Rope Glove: Swings his glove in front of him with a rope. Sweetspot at max range.

Down B - Masked Muscle's Mist: Spits mist in the opponent's face. Opponent swaps direction and also suffers the Mewtwo Psychic Effect from Melee.

That's an interesting idea for a Down-B! Very unique! However, I expect Mac to have a Counter for that slot, as spitting in someone's face isn't very honorable and not something I think Mac would do.

I'm also really just not a fan of saliva in general. >.> <.<

Great to see new ideas though! (I especially like the Bullrush!)

Those are some nice ideas, but the thing about Little Mac is that, unlike most of his opponents, he plays by the rules. He's not a cheater. He wins by his fists and will alone.

It's a good moveset but honestly I don't get why people want him to borrow moves from the other boxers. Continuing with the above post about how Mac is a clean boxer, it really wouldn't make sense for a lightweight like him to have a move that only works for a heavyweight. (And nearly all the boxers in Punch Out are above Mac's weight class.) Make some tweaks with the Bull Rush though, and you're good. Maybe instead of a rush followed by a full swing uppercut, it's a fast dash with a short upper or some combination of fast punches.

I'm completely against him borrowing moves from other boxers in the series, personally.

EDIT: Though I wouldn't object to him getting Sandman's Hitman stance (Dreamland Express). It's such a badass move. Maybe instead of throwing uppercuts though, it could function similarly to Steve's hitman stance in Tekken.

The only move I would borrow from another boxer, would be the "Super Macho Punch" to use as a Dsmash, because I literally can't think of anything else to be used that can hit both sides, like usual Dsmashes do.

But pretty fun moveset anyway. :D

I think borrowing stuff from other boxers is alright, but only if there's absolutely nothing to put there that wouldn't feel as unique as one of those.

I'm definitely not insisting we give him Great Tiger's teleport ability. I think I agree with shinhed above. Super Macho Punch is a great Dsmash

I love Aran Ryan, but Mac should not borrow his moves. Ryan's a cheater. Any of his moves would compromise Mac's character as a good guy.

Ryan would make a great Smash Bros character on his own, as an assist trophy or a boss. I don't think we should hold out for him ever being playable though.

If any other Punch-Out character ever became playable in Smash Bros. besides Little Mac, it'd be King Hippo.

Hmm though to be fair, Spinosaur gave me a good idea.

The "Dreamland Express" despite having a kickass name, is just a series of uppercuts. And a lot of boxers in Punch Out have that, double-triple uppercut from crouch move.

So THAT would be my ideal Dsmash without necessarily ripping off another boxer's move.

Dsmash: ----------ONE!-------------------------------------- TWO!

(Excuse the difference in size)

Although the idea of him using other fighter's attacks for smash, I like the idea that he actually plays by the rules. I can definitely see a move set where he attacks purely with his fists:
Special moves:
Neutral: Charged punch. Punch you can charge up similar to Donkey Kong.
Forward: Side Step Punch: Little Mac sidesteps any attack hitting him and hits a punch from the side.
Up: Star Punch: Little Mac jumps with an uppercut and hits his opponent.
Down: Block and Counter: Works like any other counter, except it works on projectiles.

Final Smash: Giga Mac: He transform into Giga Mac, but steps back into front view so the perspective on mac become the punch out!!! games. It would be slightly translucent lso other players can see. He can punch anyone on screen.

Here's mine:

Neutral: Star Punch (Ideally the mechanic should work the same way it works in Punch-Out!! Mac gains up to 3 stars through whatever means Sakurai comes up with, and he uses the Star Punch with his Neutral Special.)

Side: Concussion Jab (Jabs the opponents in the head area and makes them dizzy. The more damage they have the longer they stay dizzy. Has a bit of start up lag)

Up: Leaping Hammer (Little Mac leaps up in the air and comes down with a downward punch. Works similarly to Kirby, Dedede and Ike's Up Specials)

Down: Evasion Attack (Little Mac takes a quick step back when the button is pressed in order to evade an opponent's attack, he then lunges forward with a powerful punch if the button is pressed a second time. It's a double move similar to Link's side smash.)

Final Smash: Champion's Combo (Little Mac does a flurry of punches gaining stars in the process. He finishes off with a 3-star uppercut. Pretty simplistic, I just don't want it to be Giga Mac.)

I love this Star Punch idea since it's how you do it in the game.

I find Giga Mac kind of weird looking now that I think about it, so my final smash would be the same style of attack, minus the him being giga mac.

The down special is pretty much exactly the same as one of Steve Fox's moves. I just love the way it works.

Yeah, I think it's important above all for Mac to fight fairly. He's a great character in that he fights just for the fight and doesn't break the rules. Breaching that, and making him like Balrog would be unnaturally out of character, and I think Sakurai knows that.

@greenluigi I LOVE your moveset. Question though: Does the neutral Star Punch do more damage based on stars gained and is it unusable without them?

I was thinking, since megaman and mario have classic sounds when they move and attack, what do you guys think of mac having NES punch out sound effects to go along with his punches? Hed still have the current mac design but with a bit of old school charm thrown in there too.

Of course! Would be awesome to have classic sound effects for certain moves. For example, the Star Punch, the Counterattack (should have the dodge NES sound effect), fists can sound like they did in Punch Out Wii, there's nothing more satisfying than a traditional punch sound effect. XD But the rest can be classic sounds.

There can be certain punches with the classic NES sounds as well. Perhaps the one from his Special moves.

Haha, I guess you're right.

True. however, Mac's been fighting a long time now.
He's probably had a ****load of concussions over the years.
So when he finally gets the Smash Invite, not only does he have a damaged brain/mind, he's also very pissed about not getting an invite for earlier Smash Games.

Mac throws his honour aside and goes like "Imma show those ****ers who's the boss", bringing some of his old opponents' moves as part of his arsenal.

Also, Mac is fully aware that this is not a Boxing Ring - he can use whatever tools he want here, without feeling shame.

(Don't get me wrong. I, Too would rather see a Mac who played by the rules. It's just that I think it'd be more fun to play the character if his B Moves represented stuff from his games.)

About Giga Mac.
Agreed. I'd hate if that was his FS.

Ugh.... had a Dream/nightmare last night where we finally got a Little Mac trailer, and it was awesome as he punched the lights out of everyone...

... except that at the end of the trailer THIS guy's face replaced Little Mac's.

*shivers*

Oh well.
I think Star Punch DEFINITELY goes to UP+B because it always attacks up, and because it's the only move where he JUMPS in-game.

And regarding cheating... If Little Mac has to cheat, I honestly won't be able to appreciate him as much. :(

I had a dream kinda like that where I checked the smash webpage and banjo was confirmed. I was so shocked I waked up immediately, then proceeded to check the site for any banjo updates. I was overly dissapointed.

An uppercut as an up special is so cliche and overused. I'd rather they keep his signature move as his neutral special and be creative with his up special.

Yeah. In all technicality (is that even a phrase I can use?) Mario and Luigi both already have an uppercut Up-Special. I'd rather they do something else for 'ol Mac. Not saying it isn't possible, but it's much less creative.

I prefer special attacks to come from the games. It makes using the move feel really special.

Well I'll give you one thing. A recovery move with B is pretty unique (except Jiggs, but he is a living recovery move), so I wouldn't have a problem with that.

I'm sure a lot of people assume that Little Mac will be in because of the Boxing Ring stage and I hope so to.

For an intro I want something similar to this. Keep in mind this was made before Punch Out Wii but I still love it.

His UpB will almost certainly be "star uppercut" I wouldn't even bother thinking it will be anything different.

As for the rest of his moves, I'm fine with him borrowing other boxers moves but I'd keep them things like "bullrush" and "super macho punch" etc... where they aren't straight up cheating moves just very interesting punches.

And I'd rather the moves be nods to the game than just generic punch after generic punch; to make him interesting enough he'll need to have something like a rushing forward punch and a spinning around punch ANYWAY so they might as well be the ones from the game that the other boxers use already.

That would be really lazy in my opinion (No offense to anyone who's used it this way in your moveset). And I doubt that's what it's going to be, especially after hearing what Sakurai said in that interview.

The Star Punch mechanic is one of the most unique things about playing as Little Mac in Punch-Out!!. Reducing it to a recovery move pretty much takes away everything that makes it cool. If you've played Punch-Out!! it pretty much directly translates to a neutral special move. Making it a recovery move would be like making Kirby's inhale move work the same way Dedede's works and getting rid of the copying aspect.

EDIT: Also, the fact that Sakurai made the Mega Buster Mega Man's regular attack and made the Villager's collecting move his neutral special tells me he's really paying attention to how the characters play in their games.

Bah, as long as we get SOME sort of Star-meter for Little Mac, I don't care where his attack is mapped.

I'd also love it if he were to recover health like in his games, via Down special (or a taunt!). Even if it's just 1% per second. Something useful to do while I wait for my opponent to reach me again.

Or
His up special should be him PUNCHING THE GROUND SO HARD THAT HE'S LAUNCHED INTO THE AIR.

... what? Oh, how would he "punch the ground" when he's trying to recover?

HE'D PUNCH THE AIR.
SO.
HARD.
