I think you have mostly Sony to thank for that since they co-own Dark Cloud, so Level-5 can't do much with the IP without Sony's approval.Does anyone else here remember the Dark Cloud or Rogue Galaxy games. Those were some of my favorite games ever, especially Rogue Galaxy, but I feel like they never really get much attention these days. I don’t know how likely it is but I would absolutely love to see a revival of these games.
My number one most wanted character for Smash is Zegram Ghart from Rogue Galaxy but I feel like his chances are about as close to 0% as you can get. Even among Level 5 properties, I feel like Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy have been largely forgotten.
They where interested in doing another Dark Cloud game but Sony kinda put a wrench in that plan iirc...
Level-5 has had quite a few of these cases where they worked with characters and franchises that where owned by larger companies what with Dark Cloud and Sony, and Square Enix and I think Ni No Kuni and Studio Ghibli? (Thought the latter feels more like a Sora type of case where they themselves have a bit more freedom with the IP) especially in the company's earlier days. Its quite a copyright mess. So I guess its kinda understandable why they tend to prefer to work more with the IP's that they more directly own such as Layton, Yo-Kai Watch and Inazuma Eleven etc.
