Not saying I believe the leak, but is it not probable to everyone that Nintendo saw it and changed the direct date in order to surprise us? I mean, why couldn’t they?

The better question seems to be "why would they?"

Like I said, perhaps in order to better surprise us? I’m aware that I’m probably grasping at straws here, but I wonder if this has ever happened before with leaks.

The only defense that could be made in its defense at this point is maybe the leaker had the date wrong but it's fake. It is annoying how many things the leak mentioned strangely ended up popping up in the past few weeks but who knows.. the date is wrong thus the leak is fake. Now we wait for an actual Direct announcement

Oh hey, another leak from a guy who's friend of someone that worked on Smash. This one says K. Rool is in the game too, alongside Geno. It's funny how every leaker thinks K. Rool is a safe bet at this point.

Well, at least someone put a little more effort into a leak than the usual list of names. I call BS on the third party characters unless Suda and Sakurai are much better friends than I ever knew of... And a Tales Of Rep still feels off to me, but I don’t know enough about the series to confirm that suspicion.

King k rool is a safe bet because the ballot (especially since we may have ben right along that he got the most votes out of realizable characters) and Ridley the most request in the rest k rool is pretty gosh darn close to worlds most wanted character

And that leak fake

K rool final smash is not a "get back into the fight right away" type of final smash it would be a clone of giga bowser if it was to be real

Plus yuri Rowell and Travis touchdown are third party reps hard to believe

any leak that claims to know when a character reveal is fake. Nobody knows. people like messing with the fan base. we just have to wait for any announcement and pray to God that k rool is in this time. if this is the last smash game I want to finish this off with rool. I can't go on another 5 years without k rool only for him to not be in the next smash bros game again if there is one

I want to finish it off with Rool too. I'd absolutely hate for him to miss out on this series altogether.

That new "leak" up there has a little more "realism?" due to not claiming to know the dates. That's setting your "leak" up for failure, like Sirfishe Sirfishe just said. We still have the July 27th one still alive, but I won't bet on it. Now it's pretty safe to say that the 22nd one is dead, that's a fact, unless Nintendo springs it on us unannounced, which I doubt VERY much, there's ALWAYS been an announcement prior.

August would be fine by me, it's almost here, but IMHO September is a stretch. We're all starving for more news, and I can't shake the suspicion that Sakurai is well aware of that fact.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. Just not too hard. :)

Yes.
I could believe this new leak for the unexpected characters as Hilda or the Tales Of dude and for characters as Ashley who didn't pass the cut. Bring some doom.
But no one can believe it, of course.
If Namco gets another fighter I will go with Tekken, my guess.

I think Tekken is more likely as well, despite the rep functioning perhaps a lot like Ryu. But then again, Sakurai always has a trick up his sleeve.

I'd love to see Heihachi in the game. He was on Sakurai's mind before, and he is known to be able to change his mind. The only thing that bothers me is all of these "leaks/rumours" saying it's young Heihachi, you know, the ****ty one. If Heihachi is going to be part of the game, it has to be the old iconic one.

Is that the July 27th rumor everyone is talking about? If not could anyone send me a link? I vaguely remember that rumor but from my perspective it kinda got overshadowed by all these riddle "leaks" as well as the July 22nd rumor (the latter I knew was BS from the start, I mean, FF7 Remake on Switch? This game probably ain't even coming out this console generation).

We had Llyod from Tales of Symphonia as a Mii Costume in Smash 4, plus Bandai Namco do publish those games. It's not likely Yuri Lowell will make it in, but it could happen!

My "Tales" knowledge doesn't go beyond Symphonia, like a good old school Nintendo fan. But that Yuri fella would give Marth a run for his money in the "Most girly looking swordsman in Smash" department.
But as I said before. Keep giving me your fake leaks with K. Rool in them. Its like eating the biggest and juiciest steak, with a side of 3 small peas that you don't care for anyways.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Tales of character made it. It's a series made by Namco and I do believe it's like the third biggest JRPG series (don't quote me on that though). Yuri though would be an interesting choice. Llyod or Cress are like the face of the series and so that's who I would more expect to see. Yuri is one of the most popular characters ever in the series though so I suppose it wouldn't be weird.

That's just the latest one, not the 27th one. :)

Tekken 7 Heihachi or bust. I hated that Tag Tournament 2 used his young version.

Anyway, i freaking detest leak announcements. I can pull a leak out of my Tiki Tong.

As I said earlier, I don't like the blog updates, but on the other hand, I can't stand people saying whatever to get gull out of the internet.

I want to float a pessimistic theory from ResetEra to see what you all think:

"I wonder if it's time to contemplate if the mii costumes that seemed to be representative of the ballot were more like the best we were gonna get for those particular characters and that was Sakurai meeting us halfway. The combo of fan demanded but ultimately inactive characters like Rool and Geno almost makes more sense that way."

Well I wouldn't be surprised if Geno didn't make it in as Sakurai stated in his interview that the Mii costume existed because that was the closest thing to a fully playable character that was achievable for Sakurai, implying he couldn't be able to make him playable even if he wanted to.

At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if Square Enix rejected the idea of Geno being playable in Ultimate.

But there were a bunch of other characters who got Mii costumes they doesn't really make that hold water. I mean Ashley and Heihachi aren't dead and there are loads more who are dressed but were never going to added anyways and with no fan outcry. Every single game Sakurai re-evaluates potential fighters so those Mii costumes were literally just made for the context of 4 and have no bearing on who can make it next game.

I suppose that's possible but to just blatantly ignore a character that's clearly heavily requested in both the east and wast due to his inactivity is bull to me... plus I think Inklings break that idea.. they were among the first wave of outfits and don't forget they had a big presence on the ballot as well.. plus Haihachi from Tekken who Sakurai originally intended to use over Pacman.

It's simple.
Smash Bros. ------ PS Allstars Battle Royale.
Snake --------- Raiden
Old Heihachi -------- Young Heihachi.

We're in the cool side.

I could be wrong, but isn't the reason Bandai-Namco uses younger Heihachi nowadays because his original voice actor died?

The better question seems to be "why would they?"
Sakurai basically confirmed in his recent Famitsu column that he literally feels anger towards leakers. If he's bold enough to call them out, I'm sure he'd be bold enough to withhold information from us. If this leaker was proven right by announcements from Nintendo following his leak, then people would be expecting everything from his list and Nintendo wouldn't want that. Though I wouldn't put stock in it, it's possible that they decided to change their announcement schedule.

If he feels that strongly about letting others ruin the surprise maybe he could I don't know release info before they get the chance. Seems like a solid strategy to me.

K. Rool and Geno really don't have that much in common outside of being """irrelevant""" characters with notable fanbases. Not to disparage the character but K. Rool's costume stemmed from support that had been at fever pitch immediately beforehand, whereas Geno may have gotten quiet ballot support but is really only now being brought up because of the costume plus Sakurai's comment about wanting him in Brawl. After he missed Brawl there was virtually no talk of him for Wii U at all.

Then Geno exploded in popularity in smash ultimate due to that comment

Frankly, I think there's still something more to the K. Rool costume than meets the eye.

Would love too see Geno in, he seems like a unique and fun character that'd be fun to use.

The July 22nd direct leak seems like it, will fade away and classify itself, as obsolete , obsolete.

Oh we'll hope we get news eventually I hope King K. Rool is part of that.

I would think that "irrelevant theory" had more weight if the K. Rool costume didn't explicitly have a redesign. There was literally 0 reason to do that unless if they were planning on using it for something else because most people probably would've been content with strictly PAON K. Rool for the Mii costume.

Not only that, but as we've seen before, there are portions of the costume that literally have texturing issues as if the costume wasn't designed to be fit around a Mii model. Plus the fact that the hat portion is literally just a fully modeled head shows that the model was going to be used for something else in some capacity.

Do I think Sakurai and his team could've redesigned K. Rool entirely just so the fans could have their preferred design on the Mii costume? I think it's possible, but at the same time, if the character wasn't on their radar at all, they wouldn't have bothered to do that in the first place. Smash 5 was also starting development around this time as well, so I think the idea of them taking a prototype Smash 5 model and using it for the Mii costume is a decently likely one.

I'm not gonna give up hope since it's literally been one month since anything from the game even got announced. I'm still holding out hope that the ballot meant something really important for Smash 5, and I think being pessimistic is the worst thing we can do right now as a fanbase.
