Don't call me a ***** for this, but I am scared ****less of cockroaches. I hate bugs, but especially those black gigantic ****ers that need to die.

It's midnight, I have school tomorrow, and BOTH of my parents are sound asleep. I go downstairs to get my Ipod to put on the charger, and what do I see out of the corner of my eye?

The biggest cockroach I have EVER seen in my entire life.

This thing was MASSIVE, I can't even...ooh.
So I sucked it up with the hose-attachment of a vacuum cleaner. We have a GOOD vacuum cleaner, and I THINK I saw the roach dead inside the canister, but honestly, I am not sure. Can they survive like this?! What do I do?

What's your preferred method of killing insects/pests inside of your house? I can't stomp on things like cockroaches, I can't stand the crunch.....eww.

you should catch them in a jar and let them go outside your house :) worst case scenario is it ends up being eaten by a bird or toad and WHO DOESNT LIKE BIRDS OR TOADS? :016:

My mother told me that when she was younger, she used to babysit for somebody. Every time she would vacuum the house where she babysat, there would be a spider in every top corner of the livingroom, and she would suck them up with the vacuum cleaner. One day she told her mother about it and she told her that the spiders just work their way out of the vacuum cleaner and back somewhere in the house. Basically, she'd suck the same ones up every time. I wouldn't reccomend sucking them up in a vacuum cleaner.

Try to set them free outside of the house if possible. It's nice.
If not...
Get somebody else to kill it. :bigthumbu

I read the title and instantly thought of two solutions:

1. Good debugging strategies like step-through, program trace and writing your program well in the first place.

2. Don't kill them you heartless being! D:

Roaches deserve whatever happens to them . They're filthy, disgusting creatures. A good strategy is to spray them with RAID, though you do still have to clean it/them up later. At least they'll be dead, though.

When it comes to spiders and most other creepy crawlies, I prefer catching them in a cup and releasing them.

Alternatively, get a cat. I've never had one myself, but I hear they work wonders for controlling unwanted pests.

I hate bugs, so hearing this is just down right confronting.

I hate killing them too, I tell people it's cause I care about life blah blah but that crunch, possible retaliation and I guess the whole killing thing I don't enjoy.

Dog brought fleas into my house once. Worst experience of extermination ever... had to spray all the floors of the house because they're tiny, agile, and hibernal. That and they reproduce very, very quickly.

My preferred method of killing whatever flea that was unfortunate enough to land on me while I was alert was drowning.

Very true. I have a cat and if a giant fly ever enters the house, it will usually be in my cat's stomach later.
He'll attack anything that's moving. I need to keep my fingers still.

I do.

Nothing more satisfying that stomping a poor roach to death for wandering into my room.

This is what I do, I just can't bring myself to kill them (mostly because of the crunching sound and the ooze thar comes out. :p )

If I can't catch them, time for a shoe stomp.

If I were able to I'd wipe out all bugs except for bees and everyone would be happy.

The method of killing a bug depends on what kind of bug it is. For flies and mosquitoes I use those racket zappers, for ants and spiders I just grab a tissue and smash the hell outta them, and for cockroaches...actually I've only seen one outside before, and my friend proceeded to back his car over it. LOL.

I turn bug killing into a fun game.

For example, moths in the bathroom. I get a bottle of shampoo/shower gel/shaving foam and pour it over them until they're engulfed.

I could just crush them then and there but I'd rather watch them wriggle about and try to escape before they suffocate and die of poisoning.

To get the job done quickly, I just slap them with stuff, or my hands I've got nothing to slap them with.

There are these really interesting fly swatters out there. When you hold a button an electrical pulse is generated across the swatter and it fries whatever insect you hit.

Peace out girls.

I just pick them up and throw them outside, unless they can convince me to let them stay. One time a tiny spider smiled at me with eight puppy dog eyes and I left him alone.

It's too cold for roaches here, but if there were any, I'd probably get the shotgun.

You make it sound like it was an amazonian hissing cockroach. Those things are probably bigger than your hand.

I usually whip out the raid, nothing works better.

I always feel gross when I get a piece of tissue paper, pick up the bug, and squish it. It's not even squishing. It's like CRUNCH. I always feel gross when I crush their exoskeletons. :(

The only bugs I kill are mosquitos and wasps. They serve no purpose. I have one of these things that kinda makes it a fun game:

I dislike killing bugs.
Was lazy, so let a spider live on my bedroom ceiling for 5 days before it disappeared. Just when we had a bond too. :(
Hopefully it didn't lay eggs under my skin or in my ear while I sleeping :/

I hate having to kill bugs, not so much because of the fact that i'm killing it, but having to clean up afterwords >< we don't get much besides flies and like...mosquitoes luckily enough =p I usually just whack then and then flush 'em.

this thread reminds me of this video XD forewarning, there's cuss words!

I recall trying to remove a grasshopper that had somehow gotten into my room a while ago, and tried to use a pair of tweezers to grip it by the leg and fling it out the window. I only ended up ripping the leg out of its socket. Eeeeewwww. :(

Usually I try and let them live when I find them, but when they just prove too erratic for me to capture I just wait for them to settle on a surface and toss a book at them. I just scoop the remains out the window then.

The only thing I hate more than insects are dead insects. They creep me out.

I try not to kill them, but sometimes they leave me no choice. Bite me and you're dead, mosquito! >: (

I use whatever's handy. I sniped a moth with a juggling ball before. Ants get chopped in half with credit cards. I like spraying stuff with Windex, that surprisingly works. It depends though; sometimes I just let stuff go.

In the spur of the moment, I'll kill a spider or ant with my hands or w/e

If I think about the squish and residue, I'll end up using random stuff to swat it

If they're too big, I'll use random spray-based cans

Just overkilled a bumblebee earlier today with Tide Stain-off spray and shoe polisher spray

Oddly enough, air freshener doesn't kill a fly

The only bug I've carried outside has been a ladybug

The only really good shot I've ever had with a bb gun was shooting a wasp out of flight from like 20 feet away. That was pretty coo.

Eggmanland, obviously.
Every house I have lived in since 1998 has had huge ant problems.

It annoys the crap outta me.

I smash 'em whenever I can, except they are just too many of them for that to be effective.

So I go into my kitchen sink and look for something labeled COMBUSTIBLE or HAZARDOUS and spray their point of origin until it is fully saturated. I would use ant spray but my mom is one of the cheapest people around and says she won't buy some because "it's in the garage somewhere". Ironic considering I haven't seen any since we moved about a year ago.
