Why is Wart on that Straw Poll? I find it funny that he's doing as well as Daisy but I do question why he was included over quite a few more requested characters that are still around and kicking.

It's best to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I think it would take some pretty contrived circumstances for K. Rool to straight up miss out if he is indeed getting votes on the level he is in all these exit polls.

If the worst should come to pass, though, it's important to stay calm, cool and collected as a fanbase. Trolls are already chomping at the bit to turn K. Rool into the next Ridley (like the Joker says, they're like dogs chasing cars..."they don't think, they just do"), so if we give them no ammo, they'll starve pretty easily and turn toward another target. The impact we've had can't be taken back, so it'd just be a matter of waiting until the next Smash following a new DK game starring him, annoying as that may be.

The Top 5 is... deesappointing (Sora in the particular). Happy about K. Rool being on the top, but I was hoping that Wolf and Dee would be higher. But at least Shovel Knight isn't on the Top 5, but he is still tied on the 8th place with Dee.

Also some of the characters in the poll are really random, particularly Wart and this mysterious Shante, but also Monster Hunter, Hawlucha, Blaziken (already in the KPL's background), Amaterasu, CommanderVideo (I know he has a trophy) and Crono, and to lesser extent Hades and Sora. And it lacks popular characters like Isaac, Chibi-Robo, Wonder Red, Impa, Paper Mario and Krystal. Also it has too many third-parties in my opinion.

Yesterday, I felt so confident about K. Rool's chances, but today I'm feeling doubts.

Yes, K. Rool is the most popular Nintendo newcomer. No one else touches him besides maybe Isaac (but not that many general populace knows him).

Probably not. Seems like a waste of months to have 2 characters.

I mean if Sakurai doesn't want more money. Dude don't worry about Sakurai making DLC, he pours his heart and soul into his projects. He won't cheap out on the DLC (except that one time with Ridley but let's not talk about that).

Most popular Nintendo newcomer. Plus the only people who will probably buy the DLC are us. Casual fans don't play games that much.

If I'm remembering correctly, the guy said "Shovel Knight is the talk of the town and Nintendo is considering extending an olive branch to his studio by adding him." Ignoring the shamelessly prophetic nature of the post (a frequent indicator of falsehood in "leaks" pre-release), everyone was indeed talking about Shovel Knight at the peak of his support, which he reached months ago. That's not a surprise, really.

It's like in U.S. politics, where you get random candidates like Stephen Colbert or Bill Nye catching everyone's eye when they announce candidacy because of the "OMG What If...?" factor, but fade as people start taking the election remotely seriously.

I wouldnt really compare Wolf to Dark Pit or Lucina tbh....Wolf is alot more than them in gameplay and as a Nintendo character....
Its pretty insulting to Wolf...

Though, considering how Kid Icarus Uprising started out as a Star Fox game, it's funny to think that Dark Pit probably effectively took on Wolf's role in that game.

He's an incredibly popular character from a very successful franchise that has over 20 years of history, huge potential as a fighter and extremely dedicated, vocal fans. There will probably never be another time where K. Rool is as likely as he is now.

The original Donkey Kong arcade game was released on this very day 34 years ago! It's amazing to think that K. Rool has actually been around for the majority of the series' history, even if he's (wrongfully) been absent for a bit at this stage.

Being how fast many people bought all the original dkc and dkl trilogy on the nintendo e-shop for the wii u and 3-ds virtuaal consoles, I'd say he'd sell pretty well. Not to mention the K. Rool posts on miiverse you see on there every so often.

Add to this a recent confirmation from Reggie Fils-Aime that, at least in North America, around 90% of 3DS and Wii U consoles are connected to the internet, which adds to the likelihood of them having received at least promotional messages about the Virtual Console releases, too.

Who knows, if I can find the creator I'm gonna ask If He/She can make some slight adjustments and add other missing characters. Like Issac for example.

Even if we assume that the ballot winners were picked early on (which I doubt, myself), I would imagine that Nintendo were very well aware that the ballot would get a lot of joke/fad/etc. votes that wouldn't pay off in a commercial environment later on, and would account for that.

I don't think it's anything to worry too much about. (And I put it that way purely because I can't say with 100% certainty that the speculation is nonsense - I can only make an educated guess that it probably is. )

Oh yeah, that guy. Funnily enough, I *thought* he was a frequent poster in here, not just a troll, so I was willing to give his "news" a modicum of thought. However, he hasn't shown up here since, and either way; at the time when he supposedly asked his NoA friend about it: Shovel Knight was at peak popularity and was apparently the most notable character discussed. Unlike Shovel Knight, K. Rool has arguably getting stronger and stronger as the months went on. It'd take an anti-miracle for the people at NoA to not notice the strawpolls, exit polls, reddit, what have you where K. Rool has been consistently dominating.

The people there may not be big fans of K. Rool, if that's even true, which I doubt any of it is, because anyone can make up a similar story, but NoA not the ones in charge of this decision at the end of the day; it's Sakurai.

Yeah!! K. Rool might not get in. It might be because the exit polls are misleading, it might be because Sakurai or Nintendo has decided against him, or it might be something else. While I think his repeated placement among the top ranks is encouraging, this is a possibility all fans have to contend with. Not to the same degree, but it's hard to be sure about how certain we can be on measuring that, anyway.

Regardless, K. Rool's achieved prominence whatever the truth of the ballot may be. We need to sustain this prominence until the end. Because even if K. Rool doesn't make it in, this prominence will help him should that unfortunate news arrive. The more we build him up, the more we also build up the disappointment from his potential exclusion. That might sound dark, but productive disappointment is part of what has kept him alive. Fans are disappointed that he hasn't been seen in a while and they want him back.

Right now, K. Rool has the attention of even non-fans. if K. Rool is not selected, our work should at least make that result "surprising" or "concerning" to this group.

As much as we may hate to admit it, nobody is "a lock". No matter how high chances seem, there is always that chance that it'll turn out all for naught, and we have to be prepared for that, regardless of how certain we are of victory.

I feel good about K Rool, probably the most optimistic I ever have. I'll be extremely shocked if we don't get him after all of this. But it wouldn't be the first time I've been shocked so I'm trying not to celebrate till then.

Maybe because whoever made this thought that the Ice Climbers were impossible because of the 3DS limitations, while Ridley isn't playable because of stupid reasons? However, since that Wolf, Isaac and the Inklings aren't there, it's probably because he forgot some important characters.

Lucas was announced for June months in advanced, but the day he came out Roy and Ryu were announced to come out as well.
Tournament Mode is announced for August, so people are hoping a similar situation with happen with it.

We have a track record of Sakurai adding the most popular character(s) from all previous Smash polls, but at the same time, there hasn't been a game yet where he hasn't surprised the fans, what with him getting off on "LOL didn't see that coming, eh??" Maybe Ryu qualified as that character for DLC, maybe not.
