That isn't what misnomer means.

Can't find a better word. Basically, people believe that just because Sakurai developed the Kirby games that's why Dedede and Metaknight got in over K. Rool, not because Dedede and Metaknight were already extremely popular and more iconic than K. Rool (having been around longer). People are stating certain things based on their beliefs about what they believe is correct, and not even considering other possibilities as to why certain things went down the way they did.

People comment on comparisons between Dedede being considered over Ganondorf or Ganon in Smash 64. Maybe at the time, Sakurai didn't think "Ganon" was a viable option, and by Melee, he saw Ganondorf's human form that would work better, but wasn't sure if Ganondorf was going to stick around in the future so he was hesitant to include Ganondorf. The other fact is that the Kirby and Mario games are far more common place than Zelda games, since Zelda games tend to be longer adventures and Zelda games generally don't have spinoffs.

Diddy Kong not making it into Melee may be because Metaknight and Dedede were more iconic than DK, and unlike the lesser franchises such as Star Fox, Diddy couldn't possibly work as a last-minute clone and/or Sakurai wanted Diddy teamed up with Dixie Kong. Come Brawl, Sakurai knew K. Rool would be too complicated to go alongside all the other characters he had in mind first and planned the Diddy/Dixie team up already anyway, so there wouldn't be enough time for K. Rool to be developed with an original moveset.

I think it's worth mentioning what appears to be a new development in the Gematsu leak saga: sal recently posted in the Shulk support thread that he got another e-mail saying "enjoy my good friend Shulk," or something along those lines. Assuming this is another real leak and not just an educated guess on the part of the leaker, it raises the question of why he is only leaking this information now. It would have been nice to know earlier that we'd be getting a sudden new character in the middle of July. This just further supports the idea that the leaker is either withholding information, or has incomplete information and is learning bits and pieces as he goes. Either way, it's a plus for characters like K. Rool that were not listed in the leak.

Yeah, everything I just said was assuming that what he said was an actual leak. In reality, it's far from out of the question that the leaker came to the same conclusion everyone and their mother did when they saw those tweets, and since they would know Shulk was in the game, they could have thought it to be a safe bet to claim Shulk was being revealed tomorrow. But of course that would mean that the leaker is guessing information, which would throw some of his claims into question.

Really, no matter which outcome, I think this is a bit of good news for non-Gematsu characters. Either the leaker is guessing information, withholding it, or has limited knowledge of it. Each scenario is promising for characters beyond those leaked.

I've pretty much gotten to the point that, after following accuracy upon accuracy for so long, my long awaited opinion that certain characters will in fact necessitate being secret is keeping me abated.
It would be truly much stranger to me to see a character such as King K Rool revealed tomorrow (Dixie, no- she would not be the secret on, King K would be).

I think both K. Rool and Dixie would be secret, personally. I do agree, I definitely believe that K. Rool is secret, he hasn't been teased like other characters. I find it incredibly possible that Gematsu was planned to be all the starting newcomers (and third-parties) but that they changed plans with a few, namely Rosalina and Ridley (due to all the Ridley teasing). I suppose its possible Ridley is secret, though.

I don't think Rayman is playable, they announced him as a trophy. Although... I suppose it could mean Rayman is playable, but its very weird circumstances. That said I'm heavily starting to doubt Shulk's announcement in the morning.

Because they want to represent other famous third-party characters with major presence on Nintendo consoles, but can't make them all playable. So they get trophies and nods to these franchises. At this point if we don't have a playable Ubisoft character, I'd be surprised if we didn't get some Tales trophies, other Sega and Capcom trophies, Bomberman, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, etc.

Again, it also makes me more hopeful for a non-Gematsu newcomer announcement, when before everyone assumed Shulk.

The "leak" states not only is Snake only a trophy (and unplayable), but K. Rool is nothing more than an Assist Trophy... while Dark Pit and Bandana Dee are playable (which would not surprise me in the slightest, given Sakurai). Basically, this "leak" will gain supportive ground from a select few dozen, simply because if Rayman can be a third-party trophy without a playable status, so can Snake...

Either way, while it seems plausible, I consider the "leak" a steaming pile of bull**** until proven otherwise. If, for example, Chorus Kids are announced instead of Karate Joe, or if Takamaru/Mach Rider end up as Assists themselves, then the "leak" is dead, if it was not already.

However, this "leak" is what we may have to deal with in the upcoming weeks.

EDIT: Someone on Sonic Stadium reposted that "leak." I read it. The entire thing was the biggest load of crock I've ever heard. The entire thing is one huge ****ing middle finger to the DK franchise. I swear, if that leak turns out true I'm just not going to buy Smash Bros. But I still don't buy the leak at all.

I... for the first time in my life, I'm genuinely PISSED. Sakurai, your choices disappoint me. You've chosen to add Generic Avatar #3, and Femarth. You know your intro video sucks when Captain Falcon, the VETERAN, is the highlight of the entire video!

There's still some hope, though. Lucina's given a small slot on the site, which is usually reserved for veterans. This might mean she actually IS a Marth alt, rather than the most shameless clone yet. Still, this was VERY disappointing. ANYTHING, and I do mean ANYTHING, would have been better than this.

Wow guys, calm down with the FE hate. If Lucina is an alt (Which is the general impression I'm getting from the Lucina thread, and I did feel she was very similar to Marth in that trailer) then we only technically have one new FE newcomer (Robin) which is the number we were expecting. Plus, Chrom as Robins Final Smash throws a spanner in Gematsu; which doesn't hurt K. Rool in my opinion.

Honestly, this is the most hyped I've been for Sm4sh in nearly a year.
