Actually Sakurai's statement all but confirms secret newcomers. He said they're running out of TRAILERS, not characters. We'll probably have at least 4 secret newcomers with 12 announced before release, for an estimated total of 16 (right between Melee and Brawl).
So, do you assume that secret newcomers will not have trailers, or do you believe Sakurai was referring to how there were not many trailers left that they could show before release?

I think every newcomer will get a video, but note that unlockable characters won't get "trailers." They'd just have intro videos. My guess is the secret newcomers would get brief videos like Wolf, Jigglypuff, Sonic, and Toon Link did (technically Sonic was in the same boat, even if he did do one small thing in the main story).

Though Sakurai does mention that they're reaching the bottom of the stash of new character videos, not trailers. What do you make of that?
Dunno. I suppose its possible not every newcomer will get a video. Or it could've been mistranslated. Its hard to tell.
As fantastic as K. Rool appearing tomorrow would be... Besides the dude took a picture of an old magazine and vaguely alluded to him, aka the laziest leak I've ever seen.

I'm not THAT pessimistic, but I don't believe leaks without evidence. This has no solid evidence or backing whatsoever, just another troll. There's nothing to suggest K. Rool will be announced, or even a starter, mostlikely K. Rool will be unlockable. I'd love for K. Rool to be announced before release, but I highly doubt it.

Well, you say that but I made a conscious decision prior to the Smash Bros. Direct to not have ANY expectations of any kind. No hope for a character I want. No hope for a disconfirmation of character I hate. Nothing.

Well, all things considered if it really is Shulk then I ain't complaining. Xenoblade is one best-made RPGs I've ever played and the cast was really stellar. (One of those rare J-RPGs where I like each and every character. There's no squeaky wheel ruining it for everyone else.)

Unfortunately its going to be Shulk. Well, hopefully they're just trying to throw us off and its actually someone else. At this point I think pretty much everyone believes Shulk is in anyway.
Same. Most of the newcomers are 'meh' to me. The only ones I dislike are Rosalina, Palutena, and Miis. Greninja is also a little iffy, though it's more for the circumstances of his choice than the actual Pokemon.
I disagree with this logic. I think newcomers and new characters from existing franchises deserve equal chances to be added. Plus, we don't even know if K. Rool isn't in at this point anyway. If you said that about CHROM, though, then I'd agree. Fire Emblem definitely doesn't deserve more representation than Donkey Kong, DK should get at least three reps before FE gets a third by popularity and sales alone. Not that I don't think FE should get three reps, or that FE doesn't deserve three reps, DK just deserves it first. I love both franchises, though.
I like Palutena and Rosalina. Well, I'm indifferent to Palutena. Rosalina I think was by far the BEST pick for a new Mario rep. Couldn't care less about Pokemon. Greninja looks like the one Pokemon character I might regularly play as, though. Villager and Pac-Man are meh to me, and I hate the inclusion of Wii Fit Trainer and Mii Fighter (Wii Fit Trainer is growing on me, but I still don't like the inclusion).
In february everyone was expecting Dixie Kong due to the fact that Tropical Freeze was being released. You cannot predict Masahiro Unpredictable.
To be fair, we have a lot more information this time around. It's going to be one of the Gematsu trio, whether we like it or not. Shulk definitely seems like the most likely at this point.

I disagree completely with this notion. In my mind, its going to be Shulk or its going to be a non-Gematsu newcomer. I don't think we'll get a new FE announcement before release. I think if anything both the new FE character and Chorus Men will be unlockable, but its possible that at one point they were planned to be starters.
Xenoblade's Director and someone related to them (I forget) tweeted the April Direct and we got no Shulk, so don't count on it.
Shulk's creator retweeted this one. He only has retweeted announcements relating to Xenoblade. He retweeted the newcomer announcement in the same way Next Level Games retweeted the Little Mac direct. It's gonna be Shulk.

My dislike for Rosalina mainly stems from Nintendo's pushing of her. It reminds me of how Square Enix is adopting the "Every time until you like her" policy with Lightning. I also jut find her kind of dull. Beyond vague helpfulness, she never really does anything. Not to mention that she kind of feels like a third wheel for the Mario characters. We had the four main stars, and yet she's added instead of someone more prolific like Toad. I always considered the cast of MK64 to be the big 8 of the Mario franchise. Toad is the only one of them not in Smash Bros.
