I really have to wonder what Retro was thinking, making Freddy an ersatz of K. Rool right down to body type. Did they really think no one would notice?

It must have been an homage. Retro had about three years to re-acquaint themselves and take in fan feedback, there is no way they are totally ignorant of K. Rool as an individual character. The whole theme of the Snomads is a loving tribute to that style of 80s/90s video game villain team, I think they were only opposed to just re-using K. Rool because they wanted something original. That's just my theory, though.

What I think is obvious is that Retro has a tonne of love for DKC and K. Rool is a huge part of that, so the final boss in DKC: TF is no accident.

This seems quite ironic, since I would think that the Snowmads would also be against the Kremling Krew as well. Maybe the Snowmads took over K. Rool's home at one point, but didn't find the place to be good enough for their tastes in the end.

My theory is pretty much this; I feel like they've been trying to both expand the DK universe, and introduce their own tastes and touches to it. It never had anything to do with trying to "whitewash" the Kremlings out of existence.

I do hope they give them a shot in the next game, anyway. There's quite alot they could do with them, and it would sure make the fans happy.

When they copy a beloved character in basicly everyway its not really a homage its more like ripping off said charecter in my opinion. I can't really see Lord Fredrich returning for DKCR:3, at the sametime I don't see retro studio's giving up on " beeing creative" so I'm thinking they gonna add oriental ninja animals lead by a Panda bear that seems to have borrowed all of Kaptain K.rools moves

A team-up between Rool and Fred would be cool (no pun intended) and all, but what could be done with such a team-up to make it unique? The two share virtually the exact same skillset, and Fred doesn't have all that much room for innovation, what with being specifically designed around Tropical Freeze's ice theme like the rest of the Vikings.

Assuming Retro keeps the DK/Partner mechanic for the inevitable third game, maybe Fred and Rool could pull of their own version of that for their battle? Would be interesting, and probably pretty funny.

Ah, I was thinking more about the Snowmads in general when I suggested the team-up. While Frederik may be copy-paste of K. Rool, his minions do stand out better.

Frederik could act as penultimate boss of sorts, before the final showdown with K. Rool.

Oh geez, I can see that actually. Multi-round battle like the DK64 one, alternating as each time they try not just to crush the Kongs, but in a more and more spectular way than the other, with the penultimate defeat being at each other's hands when you clear the battle.

Third Retro DK game plot scenario: K. Rool and the Kremlings return to DK Island after having been on vacation. K. Rool steps onto the beach of the island wearing a Hawaiian shirt and straw hat. Removing his sunglasses for dramatic effect, he notices that there's a bunch of busted Viking ships and abandoned weapons strewn about the beach. A Kritter underling gestures to K. Rool, holding up a Viking helmet. K. Rool dons the helmet. Inspiration has struck. The Kremlings will take back the island in style.

The Kremlings now have a Viking theme. Cue the best Donkey Kong game ever made. Nintendo rolls in the dough.

It could be sort of like Dead Island, but with crocodiles instead of zombies.

Would be absolutely fantastic. My other idea was for K. Rool to pull a King Boo and send the Kongs a letter informing them they've 'won' a new vacation home or something, only to get there and find their island absolutely infested with Kremlings.

And then, at the final boss fight, K. Rool reveals that the entire island is a new weapon of his, triggering its destruction to bring down the Kongs once and for all. He'd have one phase of his boss fight dedicated to the destruction of each world (collapsing the buildings in a city world, setting off an avalanche in an oriental Japanese world, etc.), with the Kongs fleeing through the wreckage while simultaneously attempting to bring their adversary down as he flees ahead of them.

I know it's highly unlikely they'll do this but am I the only one who wants to hear K. Rool's original gangplank galleon theme again when you fight him should he be the main bad guy again in the next dkc game? Or maybe a remix of it during cut scenes with him could be cool too.

I think that's kinda overdone when it comes to formidable villain alliances, so I hope to not see too much of that if anything. K. Rool and Fred would still be awesome though, but yeah.

What went wrong? Well, you got greedy Fred! You could of just played it simple and steal the Kong's bananas, but noooo, you had to get fancy and instead freeze over the entire Island with that Ice Dragon, thus such extravaganza would obviously lead to your inevitable downfall.

I don't think that King K. Rool will get confirmed on Tuesday.
I can see him get confirmed later, maybe at E3 or a later Direct to generate more hype when the game is closer to release.

At this Direct, I'm expecting some character who wouldn't work as an advertisement...so, someone like Palutena or Takamaru, or maybe even the King himself. There are reasons to show him off at literally any stage before or after release, so there's no telling when that'll happen.

Donkey Kong is one of the only big franchises with all of its veterans confirmed already. There's a chance of K. Rool, but it's small. And yeah, as the direct is an advertisement for Smash Bros in of itself, they can ignore the usual requirements of a game coming out in the vicinity, so a fun set for King K. Rool or something else creative would be a good hype builder.
