Somewhere deep in my heart, I want that to happen to but... Unfortunately when you run into people in Smash you can't hurt them. And am having troubles seeing a dash attack working that way...

Maybe I didn't explain it right. I mean when you do your dash attack, you don't actually attack instead you just get super armor and hurtboxes on your entire body so anyone touching you takes damage. It sounds kinda over-powered on paper but the trade off is there's no range to the attack.

See, I'd like that dash attack, but I remember a portion of Sakurai's GDC speech where he clarifies the importance of visually representing a difference between characters' regular animations and their attacks so as to avoid player confusion. Having his dash and dash attack be visually identical flies right in the face of that. For that reason, I think a body slam, belly flop, or a bull-charging crown headbutt would be suitable alternatives, as would his flailing charge from DK64 or his blunderbuss dash from DKC2.

Uhm, what if he had a visual effect to signify when his dash is activated? Like he could be encompassed in some aura.

Maybe it can be tweaked as a shoulder ram for his dash attack. Either that have a visual shift in momentum and add a Sonic Boom shield effect.
Example

Honestly I think that one special representing DKC 1, 2, 3, and DK64 would be the best way to go.
And his Final Smash would have to represent all of his personas. I think fake Kredits is the best way to do this.

There is only 1 goto choice for King K's Final Smash:

The ship rises in the background and King K. Rool jumps into the cockpit and fires a series of lasers aimed with a cursor on stage. As the Final Smash ends the ship would charge up for one big shot.

I imagine K. Rool's Final Smash will involve Kong blood. :smirk:

Heresy! Blast-o-matic was just in one game, playing dead is a recurring trick for the King.

Well, I know this doesn't have to do with King K. Rool himself. But I need to say that Gangplank Galleon needs to be the next Donkey Kong stage. The fact it wasn't in any of the previous Smash games is a little weird.

I had an idea for his dash attack instead of the blunderbuss dash. His running animation would be in DKC and his attack is he gains super armor and his hit boxes become hurtboxes. So essentially, he just runs into you and damages you just like his original, most basic attack.

Holy ****, I actually like this. Mind if I *cough*steal*cough* this move for my K. Rool hack for Brawl? A hit with the big golden belly. :D

I would be honored if you "stole" the dash attack idea. I'd love to see it in action.

Does anyone else hope his run makes the same sound it did in DKC? Or at least something similar for nostalgia's sake.

You krazy kreeps are driving me krystal kokonutty.

So, how's our king's fanclub doing besides that? :D
This fan club member is doing quite well, and is eagerly anticipating this upcoming year, in which Sakurai has resolved to release the game in which the future of our Kremling King will be revealed. Kind of a change from last year, where the consensus was that we'd maaaaaybe see him at E3, but more likely than not, he'd be a DOJO (lol) reveal like Diddy and Dedede. Going into 2014, I'm cautiously optimistic for him based on what we know about the game now. While prancing around and calling him a shoo-in has become (and should remain) a relic, K. Rool retains a plethora of advantageous factors in his favor that I think we're going to see play out after we leave this phase of introductory game information. Whatever lies ahead, batten down the hatches, because it lies just over the horizon at this point.

Until then, every DK fan in here will basically be coasting on the Tropical Freeze tidal wave, so there's that as well.

I may support Cranky the most, but I'd rather see K. Rool in lieu of Dixie if that's better.
She can just be added later as a semi-clone if there's enough time. :troll:

Someone here brought up the idea of kredits as his final smash.

I think that's hilarious and want that to happen now.

Xenoblaze had an idea way back about the Kredits scrolling up while K. Rool beats the hell out of characters offscreen like a horde of crazed Bulborbs, while I had a separate idea about K. Rool playing dead while the Kredits lift characters off the screentop like smaller, faster Landmasters. Granted, neither of those jump out at you upon a glance at K. Rool, unlike the Cannonball Barrage of the Blast-o-Matic, but they'd be the absolute best way to portray him as the dirty fighter he is.

Supporting Cranky more than K. Rool does not diminish support for K. Rool. This thread offers a big tent for supporters of all shapes and sizes, so to speak. :p

Hmm...I've noticed something horribly wrong with the OP...
I'm not on the supporter list! You should probably fix that.

I'd say Kredits are a must for a Final Smash. Though, I thought it'd be clever to make it appear that the Vs. Match ended ("GAME!") and went straight to the "The winner is..." screen (so, a cinematic FS, maybe even with Kremlings cheering for K. Rool in place of the other fighters during "The winner is..."). And then it could cut back to the fight and cannonballs could start dropping. Or, there could just be fake credits that lift players off the stage. Either one could work.

One thing I noticed a few days ago while playing through Brawl was just how much of an impact K. Rool made, especially in SSE. Not only was he a trophy (like in Melee), a sticker or two, and an optional Stage Builder name, but a lot of Bowser's character toward the beginning of SSE was an obvious homage to K. Rool (stealing the Banana Horde, trying to get rid of the Kongs, all that good stuff). The music that plays before you fight Shadow Bowser is even K. Rool's theme. That's just something interesting I thought I'd bring up.

You can count me as a supporter, by the way.

I thought of the Kredits working like this:
K. Rool kollapses and the Kredits roll.
After they're over, K. Rool jumps up and hops around the stage unkontrollably, kannonballs falling from the sky.

The thread title should be changed to "Wish you a Merry K. Ristmas and a Happy New Year", like it was a year ago when I had joined the site. Memories...

As for Kredits, they could roll on the screen and the opponents take damage from touching the text.

I may have said it before but it's not so much the Kredits that are important, it's his playing dead that really matters. I propose that the King plays dead and anyone facing him taunts uncontrollably then a moment later he stops playing possum and b-lines into everyone taunted for tons of damage.

Alriiight, just updated about 20 pages worth of new Kutthroats and thread content...man, oh man, there's a lot of fan art piling up in the OP. Going into 2014, we're at 168 Kutthroats, and, as always, still counting.

Considering I was away for Christmas, here's a belated topical image of a familiar frosty fellow.

And here's a great screenshot of all the Kutthroats on Crocodile Isle counting down the days until their master can join the ranks of Nintendo's greats in the new year.

Happy early New Year, guys! Let's make it one for the books. :bee:

I have a good new thread title I'd like to use, but I can't seem to figure out how to change thread titles with this new SWF layout. Any idea how I can do that now?

I'd rather have no tail than that tail. 0_o
A stubbier one would be better.

No tail, or at least a very stubby one as Golden suggests. It's not like K. Rool uses a tail awfully much anyways, he can let his space dragon friend do that stuff.

Well alligators/crocodiles have tails naturally, so I say he should have one. Just, you know, kinda short.

Good work on the OP update, as usual, Kupa. Especially with the annoying changes brought upon by the recent reformatting.

Here's an idea: How about K. Rool's prone and crouching animations are the exact same pose?

This would allow the player to fake out their opponent. One could simply pretend to be proned by an attack, and non-attentive opponents would be fooled into approaching, only to meet a quick attack as an ambush out of a crouching position. It'd be a way to make use of his dastardly trickery without actually getting the Kredits involved, and thus freeing up his Final Smash for something else.
