Very cool and useful!!!

If you can, do some expressions! Even if they stray from the canon, would be fun and helpful to see some of them!
Thanks! I will be doing more with him over the coming weeks, and will ultimately have something in the vein of a style guide - which will include different expressions, of course. I can assure you his design is more than capable ;)

I...

I just read the comments of that one reddit poll.

OP is making up ****.

Sakurai has said nothing about costumes deconfirming anything. If he did, WE WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT BY NOW!

Not only that, but the whole thing reeks of bias.

1. Shantae is popular but that big of a lead? That's more than Rayman and Banjo and Kazooie COMBINED! There's no way that's realistic. The little comment about the person being a huge Shantae fan and seething at K.Rool makes it even more questionable.
2. OP says K.Rool is deconfirmed. Okay. Fair enough. Definite reasoning there. I don't agree with it, but hey, it's a logical conclusion. Because of that, OP didn't bother to put him there. Okay, I can understand deconfirmed characters not being there. Again, there is a logic to it.

Except, he included Ridley, Chrom, various ATs and INKLING in the BASE polls. K.Rool had to be a write in. Did the OP think they could get away with that without people catching on?

OP is both stupid for thinking that kind of trickery would work and slimy because he straight up lied.

I don't insult people often, but the OP of that thread is making my blood boil.

EDIT: AND I just learned that you could vote multiple times.

What a load of kroc.

EDIT 2: Okay I got really mad there, but I don't like lying about stuff like this. It's just so petty.

Can someone confirm that this happens in English or any language of Smash Bros Wii U?

French person posted this on twitter.

The top banner (??? I didn't even know that was a thing) advertises K. Rool and Flying Man costumes by calling them "retro".

Did you hear that?! He'd be a retro rep now. Feel free to use Duck Hunt, Mr. Game and Watch, etc. as examples against relevance arguments now....

Huh.

SNES games are counted as retro now.

Odd.

Yes! I saw this myself as I booted up Smash 4 for a little while and just watched as the news scrolled by. I just hope it doesn't mean bad things for K. Rool to be mentioned like that, but still, this is a very interesting little thing they've added...!

But this OBVIOUSLY means that Soccer-Guy thinks of K. Rool on the same level of importance as Flying Man! K. Rool as a stage hazard for Gangplank Galleon confirmed! :troll:

Y'all fools, King K. Rool's been recently recognized by Retro, of course he'd be labeled as such. :troll:

Speaking of that, as of now, our king is once again in the lead!
I tried vote Dixie because I think her fanbase is not so vocal anymore and when I saw the results...
She was tied with Daisy.
Oh, the humanity.
(Congrats K.Rool, deserves that top spot.)

Man, Shantae has been doing better since I last saw her on the poll. As much as I like her, she still has a way to go to dethroning the mighty K. Rool.

Actually shes not. I'll post a full summary as the poll goes on, but based on early findings, more than 50% of her votes in the new poll are fraudulent.

Things do look very good for the Kroc, but I'll go more into that in about a week or so.

Please continue to support the Kroc!

Haven't seen that banner show up on my system yet, but it makes sense. After all, we were stunned at how the costume was modeled after Rool's classic 'retro' design instead of his modern one. What's more, maybe it's an indicator that they decided to add it because they wanted an additional costume to deem 'retro' alongside Flying Man (and had assets handy with which to make it?).

Also, yeah, because "retro reps don't count for muhrelevance OBVIOUSLY," we get to get off from that ridiculous argument scot-free now, right? Right??

I know this is unrelated to the exact topic at hand, but PR Guy & Professional Damage-Controller Scott Motiff just revealed new info regarding news about upcoming games, release dates for games and amiibos, and new amiibo reveals/news as well.
http://mynintendonews.com/2015/08/2...tails-holiday-lineup-including-star-fox-zero/

Pretty much stuff we WOULD see in a Nintendo Direct, but, you know, NOT in a Direct.
It seems very unlikely for an August Direct/ Early September Direct now. Hopefully we can get a Direct or New Content video by Sakurai for late September/October, because we could REALLY use some new Smash info.

The fact that it has a label alongside the costume, makes it seem like this theme was planned (before the ballot even), and not implemented as a consolation prize as people think.

With a Starfox release in November...alonside the Falco amiibo, I think its a good bet that Wolf will come in November as well.

Not really, I mean it's all dates mainly, usually Directs go into detail on upcoming games, this is just general information. I mean Mario Kart, Bayonetta, and Smash all got dedicated directs, both Mario Maker's final release look, a new look at Star Fox Zero, and the end of the ballot require a direct

Exactly. If it were a consolation prize, why not "Fan favorite character King K. Rool becomes a costume! Buy him now, rabid fans!" instead?

If NES was retro during the Melee times, SNES being treated as retro now makes sense.

I don't think it means anything for his chances, unless you want to play the retro card which I wouldn't advise.

I feel like they are stopping Nintendo Directs because Iwata won't be in them. Its really sad. The best way of getting our gaming news may be gone. Maybe they'll see the outcry on Twitter and say something about it.
This is a very sad thing if it's true. But I also think it's stupid: I know that Iwata was an important part of the directs, but I don't think it's a wise decision to quit them because of his death, I doubt Iwata would want it either.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, this should have been a direct - I guess this is the August direct worth of information, so next shot is October.

Really, though, I was waiting for confirmed information, and here it is. Too bad there's no Smash news here. When there's no news, there are idiotic fake leaks to try and tide people over who are hungry for information. I hope they do give us something, but it looks like we'll have to wait until the ballot ends in October to hear anything.

And even then, it'll probably just be a tweet about the ballot closing, thanks for the votes, we'll take it all under consideration; check back soon for more updates...

I just don't see the ballot ending without some sort of fanfare or a direct. They know how big a PR thing this is, and I also see announcements coming for the next batch of DLC characters before the end of the year(it'll have been 4 months since the last ones, and they've shown they can make characters in 3-6 months), and I expect a few from the ballot. No way they would end the year without at least another pair of DLC characters, they need all the pr and sales they can get(though I am on the train that wolf will be a Star Fox Zero cross-promotion)

It took Mewtwo about 5 months to get his reveal trailer. I have a feeling if we get any newcomer out of the ballot, they won't be revealed until they have a proper trailer to go with them.....thus we'll be waiting until spring/e3 next year.

The most we will probably get is a tweet, or a quick bit in a direct saying "Thank you for your votes. They are currently being calculated, and taken into account. Please look forward to more news in the future."

You see, you're using the logic of this being a vote, not a ballot, this is essentially an informed poll. As many have pointed out this is not a mere vote of popularity, but also of concepts. The length of time it's been is to allow maximum input, not a limitation of when The only things we do know is that they are putting out characters at a consistent rate, and that the ballot will influence choices, but it does not need to end for characters to be chosen. There is no reason they would stop making characters for 4 months simply for the ballot to end. add to that, it appears they tend to have 4 characters in development at once if not more(and the coding indicates that they had 2 more characters half-way through development back in June to the point of being testable in game).
I honestly expect 2 characters to be announced by October, both at this point influenced by the ballot(though 1 perhaps considered before hand). I expect K.Rool could be one of them. But I honestly believe we will be getting new characters before the new year, and there is no reason they stopped making characters.

There were a few directs without Iwata. It maybe that the Directs were Iwata's idea, but they shouldn't stop those after his death, yeah.

That said, it may be that his sudden demise might have thrown the schedule into an uncertainty as they have to look for a new presenter. I hope the absence of the direct is just that.

Keep your heads up Kutthroats!

This song (or any other version of it) actually is used quite a lot in my life. Its usually my alarm in the morning, what I listen to when I'm writing a paper for school, and obviously my jam before a Nintendo Direct begins. Something about it always gives me a very hopeful feeling, like its not over yet.. And it truly isn't.. We have to embrace that, especially in the final moments of the ballot; we have to keep pushing! We have to show that our King is not out of the fight quite yet, and won't be until he makes his komeback. Even after the ballot closes.

Also, I wouldn't seriously worry about Shantae anytime soon. If many of her votes are in fact illegitimate on many of these polls, then she likely doesn't have nearly as much serious support in the actual ballot. At least not as much as the king that's for sure.

I dunno guys, something in my gut tells me that Iwata's death brought down Nintendo's spirit more than we even think. Who knows how Sakurai's handling this behind closed doors, let alone others within Nintendo's walls.

We don't even know who's going to be the official new CEO, it's just being co-owned by Takeda and Miyamoto right now until a replacement can be found. At the time of Iwata's death it was sort of "too soon" to talk about a new CEO. It's been a while now. About a month and a half has it? You'd think they would have picked someone by now. I just hope there isn't some sort of corporate-political struggle between Miyamoto and Takeda.

I've seen this coming for a while and now it seems like more and more people are agreeing with my sentiment about Nintendo and the Directs. I don't think they're doing them anymore. When Iwata left, I feel part of Nintendo's soul went with him. I hope I'm just being dramatic and I will be promptly proven wrong.

If that is true I knew it.. games have already come so far as to make King K. Rool a retro character....I mean he may just be a "Retro Games" character if you catch my drift, but that is crazy to think about! Nice find!!!

By the way, the last Nintendo Direct (non-E3) I saw was Japan only. But it was hosted by some other guy that wasn't Iwata. Even then, I suspected they were training a replacement to host the Directs (and I think the American version can handle with only Trinen and Reggie).

What I can see is that we will see even fewer Directs for some time. And we are just getting out of dry news August just to get into a drier September. At least there is Super Mario Maker mid-month to keep me busy. And October will be soon before we think.

I have an idea K. Rool support thingie for September 3rd, one month before the ballot end. Lets hope I dont slack off my way out of it.

Over here, ours have been fronted by Nintendo Europe's head honcho, Satoru Shibata, for ages, and Iwata was very rarely, if ever, seen. Given that, I don't imagine anything will change here.

Yeah. Nintendo is a business. If they thought it made business sense to make directs before Iwata's death, they will continue to do so afterward, too. Not that Iwata's death was inconsequential: it probably has affected things in ways we cannot know. But plans for these things have probably been set in advance. I expect that the reason we have a news "drought" is because they simply don't have much to announce before the probable NX blowout at E3 next year.

To be fair, Nintendo would have known that Iwata was ill for some time now. The event itself came as a shock to us, because we don't know what goes on inside Nintendo's walls, but Iwata was clearly struggling with this condition for months at least. That kind of upset would naturally provoke the people in charge to sit down and decide what the best course of action is, in the event that Iwata really did pass away. I wouldn't be too surprised if Iwata himself was involved in that kind of discussion: I don't think anybody really expected him to die so suddenly, but as a business, you have to make preparations for the eventuality.

That said, I think the suddenness of the event was a shock to everybody, Nintendo included. Probably the corporate leaders thought there'd be more time to sort out any future fallout that Iwata's hypothetical death would inevitably yield. Sakurai himself said he'd continue with his work as usual, but it's gotta be difficult when the man that helped inspire the series' creation is no longer with him. The emotional strain of his close friend's death, on top of the physical duress of his injured hand and mental stress of fan expectation, must take its toll on him.

Interesting times indeed, but I believe we will weather this storm. Sakurai's made more than a few wonky decisions this time around, but I trust he knows what to do even in the wake of this tragedy. I can't speak for Iwata, I never met the man, but I think - as a fellow creator - he would want people to carry on with their love for Nintendo and their appreciation of the game. I believe Sakurai will work to honour his friend's memory and commitment to quality, even if it is difficult for him.
