Marth can fthrow to fsmash almost the entire cast, with a possible need to studderstep before the fsmash, at very low damages (ie, 0-3%) The dthrow to fsmash against MK was disproven I think, but it's okay 'cuz the fthrow works. I don't do that in friendlies because I'm focusing elsewhere, but it's definitely there.

The first 3% goes pretty quick, though. I'm worried about what happens after that, especially since the majority of my game vs MK right now revolves around the grab. In any given match with Scribble, probably 80% of the damage is just the GR > fair and DS out of shield. Unless I find other ways to raise damage, I want to optimize these as best as I can. The other 20% is me punishing Scribble when he's being dumb with things like fsmashes, which I don't think should ever land on a competent MK (other then the 0-3% fthrow combo)

My bro my join in for some of the summer smashings. Brawl-wise his main is DK.

Ah, okay, good to know. Another reason to move away from Sammy in Brawl -.- When I want to refresh I'll put more focus on grabbing, then. That'll actually change the way I play a lot of matchups. At higher damages when I could use a fresh easy KO move, I can just get like two or three grabs and I've refreshed my KO move - nice :D. Much preferable to be able to KO with whatever I find easiest to land on a given opponent then struggling to land another (fresh) KO move.

I can see how I made a mistake about the pummels due to being an ex-Sammy-main, but this one I'm pretty sure about: the full four-hit DB only counts as one for stale/refresh. Otherwise three full DB combos would fully refresh everything else - and from what I've seen it clearly doesn't. DS out of shield, DB DB DB, and the DS still isn't fully fresh. Also, the up-DB4 would but much harder to KO with since you have to miss DB1-3 for it to be fully fresh.

No, DB = 4 refresh moves. its the same way that MK f-tilt = 3 refresh moves
there was a really long thread on DB and this was a key point on why it is so good
you need 10 moves to fully refresh something being used ONCE

I think you underestimate how frustrating the 'nado is for me in Marth vs MK. Much of Marth vs anyone is SHing, but I can't do that against MK or I get 'nado'd. It is a LOT easier to fresh-fair through a nado then mid-air DS through one. Having a fresh fair lets me stay in the air, and it rhymes too. The option of SHing backwards to reset spacing is well worth losing a few points of damage while the fair is fresh. Once the fair isn't fresh may I'll go back to GR -> fair. Iuno, I'll need to see exactly how much this strat would cost me. I also need to experiment with things other then fthrow-fair, which is the only throw strat I'm familiar with against MK. I wanna play around with upthrows :D

fresh f-air still needs to tipper. if its not tipper i can still nado you, it really doesnt help that much
f-throw fair isnt that good against mk unless i AD or something

Anyone know if throwing stales or freshens other moves? Like, does Falco or DDD's chaingrabs freshen up their other stuff it they don't pummel?
Throws dont refresh anything

ive been trying to tell you f-throw studder step tipper f-smash is sex
it works on almost all characters at vairing percents

I know, I've known - if it were a MM or tourney I'd do that. In friendlies, though, I'd rather practice something I have difficulty with, like the GR stuff. I still only GR>fair like 50% of the time. I play friendlies to improve/develop, not to win. (Which is why they're NOT representative of how I'd do in a tourney or MM, and why I shouldn't change my character based on my win/loss ratio in friendlies *cough*fizzle*cough*) Thats why I don't do the cruel GR chain on Lucas and Ness, why I don't run away to run out the timer, et al.

yay reside is gonna play again=D
Also yes, I was quite happy when Reside said he would join in. I'm not sure if its a regular thing or just a one time thing, but he *is* playing. There's a good chance we'll team at the MW champs. Icy Hot Classic is returning... just it'll be Marth and DK. hmmm, may need a different name.

I usually play friendlies like I'd play a tourney match. Unless it's someone that's absolutely terribad, then I just grab to uthrow to regrab to uthrow and keep using uthrow to show them that they don't know how to avoid a grab.

Srsly though, run the timer in friendlies, do d-throw to tippers, do anything you can because if you don't practice the stuff you'll actually be using in tourney, you'll mess it up in the tourney, too many commas,

The thing is, I don't need to practice those things nearly as much as I need to learn other things. In theory, it would be useful to know how to run away from MK to run out the timer - but that is assuming I can even get a lead against MK, which isn't going to happen while my game is based around something I can't do consistently - or heck something I'm considering dropping completely. I'm not worried about practicing the less common things which are easy, like the GR chain or the fthrow-ss-fsmash.

I agree I should do that eventually; I'm just to scrubby to do so right now. I sorta know two match ups maybe - that's it. Basics and common stuff come first, exotic easy stuff later (but eventually!)

There's a kid on AiB that is from the Dayton area that wants to start playing competitively. His AiB name is fudgylicous fhd. He says he has a good IC and he thinks he's really really good at the game. So, ya... you guys should find him and play against him.

Also, fromundaman, I'm gonna be @ your house in like 30 minutes. Smashfest time!
woot!

Also also, fromundaman is correct throws totally refresh your moves and become stale. If throws didn't become stale sonic's uthrow would be even more beastly

Oh sweet. So a grab, 2 pummel, and a throw = 3 refreshes (with characters like Marth)? That helps quite a bit. At higher damages I could easily refresh my DS in just a couple grabs. Another point away from GR -> fair |:

Fhd posted here on smashboards, but thanks for the heads up ITT.

I will be, Scribble should be, and you should be. Reside is going but he's out of practice / not very experienced / doesn't like Brawl, so he'll probably be available as a backup. I don't think Nano is going. If Fro is still Dayton (I'm worried the Akron people may have brainwashed him or something) then we could have enough.

Worst comes to worst both Scribble and I will use our hands separately to count as different people and we'll have enough. Lets do this :D

Honestly Fizzle is so beastly in crews we won't need a full crew >.>

Psh... You know I'm Dayton.
Hell, I'm the one throwing out crew challenges to everyone lol.
If you guys are up for it, I definitely am (and I'm seeing definite improvement in my game, so with you, Fizz, Scrubz and I, we should be good (though let's not kid ourselves, Fizz is all we'll ever need.)).

The only Brainwashing that occurs up here is that I'm now convinced that Sonic is beastly.

Glad to hear it Fromundabrainwashproofman.

If there's a post here confirming that there will be a wii and/or cube (or 64?) there with a copy of smash before 9:00AM, I *may* be able to smash from about 10:30 or so until noon tomorrow. If I don't see a post by 9:00AM confirming a setup I won't be there.

If I do I'll be running on caffeine so don't expect a challenge. Still, it'll be the last chance I get to smash with Adam the Great (Unless you go to one of the Springfield tournaments! Only ~45min away, you won't find much better then that) so I'll go even if I'm exhausted. Enough caffeine should get me running for at least a couple hours.

Tonight will be the last night staying up cramming/homeworking for me for months <3

Obviously I'd go Sammy at a low tier, if for no other reason then to piss off the Ganondorks :D

Well I'll be there whenever my class ends. It should end early today, but exactly how early I can't say. It's possible I can be there as early as 10:05AM or so, but it may be as late as 11:00AM. I don't know if the prof is actually going to teach a class or just wants us to drop off our last pieces of work 'n git out.

I'll leave at about five 'til noon.

Bring whatever copy of smash + console you want. All of them. Whatever makes ya happy. It's *your* last day of smashies@SCCw/Paraddizzle. I'll be there during the summer :D

There's two Springfield tournaments in a row: the 20th and the 27th.

Honestly Springfield is the closest you'll likely get for a worthwhile tournament, being only about 45min away.

20th is a large tournament with the best in the midwest:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=235197

27th is a smaller but still notable tournament:

Adam may claim to have both ape-spiked and shine-spiked me lotsies today but there were not witnesses so he *could* be making it up >.>

The caffeine was sufficient for me to play adequately - ends up I didn't really need to john. When Adam wasn't SDing over and over they were good games.

I didn't get DK fair spiked, but dair spiked. Don't think that's the calendar.

Is there a special name for the Ganon dair spike? He got me with that once and it was crazy beastly.

Also also I think I'm bringing sexy [Samus] back. I got a couple games with Sammy and for some reason I was having fun O.o

Awww... no calendar spike...

Also, Ganon's spike is too epic for words, especially when he spikes you with his beard. However, I have heard it called the curbstomp.

Glad to hear it! Maybe you just needed to put her away for a while and play another character for a bit? Playing one character too much gets boring IMO (Probably why I'm playing so many... By the way, I dropped Diddy again in lieu of another secondary... Hopefully this time I'll have more success with it than I did last time I picked him up. It didn't seem to do half bad yesterday though.)

With the exception of 1v1 vs Ganon I can't see my Sammy being better then my Marth in pretty much any situation (well, except low tiers), but I may go back and give her more attention if for nothing other then friendlies. Until I get frustrated with her again -.-

It's just fun completely overwhelming someone with [pseudo]projectiles. I definitely understand Brawl a lot better then I did when I played Samus, so I expect my Samus has improved quite a bit.

Haha, I hear you. Low-tiers are pretty much the only time my Bowser or Ganon ever come out (unless I already have Mario ****** it).

It's not fun being Ganon in that position lol.
You get Mario if I ever face you in low tiers. Maybe Puff if that fails.

I totally approve of the refrigerator.

K, now Scribble needs to confirm a ride to the house tournament so *I* can have a partner since Fro isn't going.

One of the members of SODA you guys haven't met may be able to join in for summer smashings at sinclair! If my bro joins in too that'd be 80% of SODA - thats sooo hugggge

The refrigerator is a great name!

Also, I feel bad about ditching you, but this is just too soon for me to amass any sort of money for said event. Hell, technically, with my current budget, I shouldn't even be going to MWC (though I still will.).

I get you. I'd love to have teamed with you for once too and see how that would have worked out.

After all, Marth works well with my new character.
