sorry guys. i think it was me who gave delphiki and some other people that if you stick to one character you will become godly with them.

i told drgn that the reason he cant play fox's with shieks is because he switches to zelda 70% of the time. i also told lucien to stop playing as bowser and stick to fox......

well mainly because it worked for me. recently i dropped captain falcon, link.. and all my other wierd characters and started concentrating mainly on fox.. and it helped me out ALOT.

but yeah what works for some people doesnt mean it will work for others!

Yeah Zoap you're right. But in some other threads we were talking about a related topic. Someone said that an extremely good player (Isai was the example) could basically pick up any character, even one they never really played, and beat most people. The skill they have is dependent more on themselves than the character. I forgot to mention that. From my perspective it is best to focus on one character until you are confident and skilled with them before trying to branch out. I was wrong when I forgot to mention that before, thanks. Also this mostly relates to character specific things.

edit: JR I dropped all but two of my characters about a month ago to focus on my ICs.

Bowser will not be dropped, I will train up my bowser. I did drop my Falco, marth, c.falcon, sheik, kirby, mario, etc. Two characters shouldnt be too harmful to my progress as a player.

I still disagree, Delphiki I believe that picking up cetain characters,while still focusing on your main can be extremely helpful.

For example, back long ago when Snap just mained Marth, played nothing but Math. He was progressing slowly, still getting used to L canceling and Wavedashing etc. So one day he says, I wanna pick a secondary and he is like GW. Well in 2 weeks time of alternating from marth to gw interchangly with me kawn and dbr in friendlies. He not only learned to L cancel more efficiently but also learned to wavedash, edgeguard, mindgame and many other things.

Playing more characters can help you with playing some characters, as Snap now is no longer afraid to edgeguard wit marth, Or L cancel flawlessly wit Falco.

Oh yeah, UCSC tourney. Uhh...I guess there might be a chance that I go to that. I dunno, I have to do some stuff in Novato in the next couple days, if my family doesn't need me Saturday, I guess I'll go back to SC to the tourney.

Yeah as for just picking one or two chars, what really started happening was like in the last 2 months I randomly started playing chars I never played before (like Sheik, Doc, Samus, etc) and trying to actually figure out ****e with them instead of just picking them randomly. I hardly ever play Jiggly in friendlies, I'm always playing chars I want to learn, and then I don't do as good as I want with Jiggly in tourneys. But I feel like playing more characters will help me understand the game better. I generally have the most fun with GW and Luigi. Winning is also fun. I think the solution is to get good enough to win with those chars, so I think I'm going to just play Luigi and GW, except against people who I can't beat as often.

And Fox. I have no idea who to play against Fox.

Yea if you dont mind sacrificing some time and a little money to better your chars, thats why snap plays GW and Falco cuz there more fun then marth.

I only Use, Sheik, Ganon, Marth, Falco and Peach in tourney.

I mostly use the others(non Peach) in matches I can afford to experiment and try some things out in.

I think what KFC said is right, Zoap all those people you named still mainly go there mains in serious tournies and I believe if you play every1 instead of playing only one it will slow the process of getting better down and it will be harder to go from a godly fox to a godly bowser t a godly Dk to a godly shiek . The reason being once you steele in to a style thats how you play but if your always switching you will have no style meaning you could only rely on counterpoicks unless your azen.

I think that if you focus with one character, you will get...err...more better with said character than you would if you focus on several characters at the same time. However, I rarely if ever play my fox during friendlies, but play him almost exclusively during tournament play. Yesterday showed me what happens when I don't go fox during tournament (Delphiki's ****-age of my Marth and Tyde's destroying of my Shiek). Del 2-stocked my Marth and Tyde 3-stocked my Shiek. You both are right, imo, but I'd rather take the route of developing all of my characters, so that if I get into a bad matchup with my fox, like someone who trains against a lot of space animals (****in Zoap) then I can flip it around. But now that Del knows how to destroy Marth, unless I play some n00b then all I can really do is play Fox, or maybe Jiggs. Plus Ness in Low-Tiers.

For the most part, the good players have said multiple characters will help you get better faster while most mediocre players have said to focus on just a couple. KFC/Zoap/NK blur the line a bit but like I said, for the most part this is true.

The reason? I think it's that when you're still developing your game at a basic level, such as the case with most of my crew and Anbu/TC1, it is best to stick with familiarity until you are comfortable transferring general skills between characters.

However with the players above the line, they have already passed that level of familiarity and that part of development which needs a consistent character. At that point the diversity you get from multiple characters allows you to experiment with new tactics which will then be merged with all your other characters. That's what Zoap said in less words when talking about Snap.

Tomi: NK is better than you. I can say that with utmost confidence after yesterday, when I finally sat back and analyzed your playing.

I have never played nintendo king, NK if you are going to the sac biweekly lets get some matches. Also for the whole 1 or 182637678369182367801236 characters debate, I think it really depends on the person and what level of skill you are at. I am also really glad that melee is in the EVO tournaments now.

TC1 who exactly do you think Snap's Main is, or how about Azen. Snaps main is actually Marth, while Azen just recently(Two months ago) decided to main Marth, but not just give up on his other chars.

As its said if you aren't at a skill to where you can play multiple chars at a high level then yes you may just want to stick to one. But this is Sheridan, ranked very high and a very good player.

Playing other chars at the same time not only help you but can actually make your main better.

Ill use another example:

When I first met TC1, he wasnt very good, didnt see much waveshining or near as much technical skill as KFC had. He picked up Mario around OC2, and now the improvement is DRASTIC. I can see it just by the way he plays now. Now this might be why?? Cuz he chose to focus on Mario and less fox. But by picking up another char it only helped his fox.

The more Chars the better is what I still say.

Also KFC, by playing multiple characters only helped him realize that he needed to stick to Fox.

Multiple Characters at the same time helps, no matter if its for counterpicking, for fun or for furthering your main.

I really don't know if anyone's seen NK's 100% in singles in a long time.

Anyways, I don't see why NK would have flamed anyone. 'Course nobody really does until he actually does it. But here's the thing about me and flaming: if I deserve what's said about me (usually from people like SuperRadBrian or Zoap) then I take the criticism and see what I can do about it. If I don't deserve the flaming (like NK has done at least a few times to basically everyone) there is no point in even responding, because it means nothing.
