Is this fair...? Let alone legal?

Okay, so recently I sold a Playstation 2, A Gamecube, and a bunch of games and accessories from them on Ebay. I got $320.34. Well I'm 13 and a half so I still 'unfortunately' live with my parents. Well you see, I want to get an Xbox 360 with my money, but some horrible people are trying to tell me I can't because an Xbox 360 is a "waste of my money and time" so I can get anything OTHER than an Xbox 360. They said, "You can get anything you want other than that, save for a playstation 3 or get a bunch of wii games." Do any of you think this is fair? Is it legal? Please discuss. (Oh yeah and they said if I went out and bought one myself they will put it up and i will never get to use it)

Why aren't you allowed to get an XBOX360? I mean, if it's becuase its a "waste of time and money", then you shouldn't be allowed to get ANY system, but it looks like you can get a PS3 or a Wii. Looks like your parents are contradictory to me.

Correction: It's money that you got for selling **** that they bought for you. It's entirely legal and (in my opinion) fair. They are letting you decide what to spend the money on for the most part, and there are plenty of neat things you can buy for $300+ (iPod or something?).

That said, I'm not totally against you here. I don't think there's anything wrong with you having a 360 and I'm a little confused as to why your parents have a problem with it since they must've been fine with you having the GC and the PS2. It's a little odd.

P.S. If you're 13, you should stop counting "halves."

Isn't it legally your parent's money even if you earned it, until you're 18? Anyway, they're being pretty unreasonable. I hate the people that judge video games without playing it for themselves.

Living under there roof it's there rules. It's also there items of which you sold that you may have gotten as a gift. And they paid for said items with there money so yes, it's 100% legal and fair.

I actually own a PS3 and not a 360, and I'm far from a fanboy for any system

but yeah, try to convince your parents that it isn't a waste of money

This statement alone is why I look forward to moving out of this Hellhole...err, I mean household.

It's fair. They've paid for all of your food, clothing, housing, bills, etc. They can make decisions, even if it's your money or not. You should at least respect your parents and hear why before you go and get emancipated or something.

As others said, you aren't allowed to claim that it's actually YOUR MONEY until you're 18... but it's pretty much BS that your parents are making you earn double of what you just made to get a PS3. THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE (besides blu-ray, but that has nothing to do with the games. And if I'm leaving differences out, it's because I don't care). Dude, if I were you, I'd be PISSED right now. Do they think that the 360 is for a more mature gamer or something? Since I checked, they've BOTH had violent games on them.

But other than that, as everyone else said. It's actually your parents' money. THEY bought you the consoles. THEY have custody over you. And YOU soldwhat THEY bought for YOU with THEIR money. Which in truth does come off as being ungrateful.

But I digress... stop whining and deal with it? You're under their roof, they make their choices. It's not your money, technically nothing there is yours. It's part of being a minor and everyone has to deal with it till their 18 and some even have to live with it past then. As far as parents are concerned you live under their rules until you're either paying rent or moved out.

Oh, I get it. I just re-read his post and realized I must've misinterpreted it. When he said "save for a PS3 or get a bunch of Wii games," I thought he meant "save" as in "except for."

@hectichobo: as for you spending it on a 360 well.. I really can't help you there, since you're still under age, and living under their roof, it's best you follow their advice, otherwise like you said, they will sell it off or whatever they plan to do with it.
