I know I really dont visit these boards for help, but is there really much more I can learn with marth? Marth to me a me secondary for Brawl(main for meele), a simple character to use and move around with, good aerial, countering ability and overall I had developed a killer instinct with him during meele that hightened my awareness for when to dodge and counter which I'm starting to redevelop now that I'm picking him back up in Brawl.

I'm sure most of this thread consists of match ups for people and stages, which now that I think of it, I might look into that just so I'm informed on who not to put marth against, and what stages I can put marth really good use to. Otherwise I think just getting faster and making better judgments on moves, attack or defence is the way to go.

So is there really much more for me to learn?

in games ( i really should say brawl ) characters usually have a limit eventually there is going to be a time when you just about learn everything about your character .
just as you said making choices / judgments is really last step . knowing when & what to use in a given situation ,
although if you have a good knowledge of the character . i guess learning how to mindgames(mental training) with that character is another step .because everyone knows what marths moves are/ and have wealthy knowledge of when to do it / and not

but if your able to mindgame into marths best attacks i suppose thats another level thats screams 'pro' level to the community

the next thing to learn '

is the mental aspect of marths game .

Have you successfully improved Marth's recovery aspects?

Have you made an inpenetrable wall, despite mistakes?

Have you've become completely aware of the delay of attacks, unpunishable spacing, and what's currently diminished?

If not, work on those (I am)

There is always more to learn, the moment you think you learned it all, you already are behind.

Rofl. You need to learn how to get into your opponent's head with Marth (on top of any other character's you might play)

Let me put it this way . . . Marth is my main because

A) I feel very comfortable with Marth. Every movement, every slight nuance, is deliberate. When I play other characters, not everything comes out perfect. With Marth, I know exactly what I can do, how much range I have, if I can hit you while you are standing on spot X, etc.

B) I know how to get in my opponent's head. I know if I do X move, I am likely to probe Y reaction, from player Z, W percent of the time. This is what makes me win.

Essentially, I win because I KNOW more. There is very little technical skill in this game.

So to answer your question, since I do not always win, and I doubt you're nearly as far as many Marth players, including myself, in terms of victory, I'd say you have MUCH to learn. When I give players advice, I don't say stuff like "Press A, then immediately after press X and A, and push forward in about .35 seconds." Like I said, technical skill in this game is easy to acquire, once familiar with the controls. It's all about the know-how.

Unfortunately it only gets fun when you meet someone with similar abilities :p

One thing I'm noticing from extended brawl time is that once you know your opponents pattern, unlike in melee where you can perfect edgeguard sequences and technical skills in friendlies, once you know your opponents patterns it just becomes a slightly advance version of rock paper scissors except you usually know what the opponent is going to do.

This leads to sub-excellent spacing because you'll punish regardless. Still need spacing but not as good.

In Melee, once you got your opponent off the stage, they're usually dead. In Brawl, usually they're much worse off, but not dead.

It's all about the mind games son, but you can't do no d@mn mindgames with no mind.

You also can't make the right regular choices without the know-how, and I HIGHLY doubt you've mastered using Marth's aerials appropriately, considering how variable the circumstances for using Uair and Bair can be.

Situational knowledge is just as important as numeric knowledge. When you're in that grand finals set, and your opponent is Lucario and about 110 pixels in front of you, and 15 below you, and you're both at last stock, high percentage, you're going to want to know that Aura Sphere will hit you first if you throw ShieldBreaker. Simply knowing that Shieldbreaker has enough range to tipper and finish the match isn't enough.

Get your knowledge up.

Depends on the character. Get a Link off-stage and he's dead. Get a Dedede, MK or Jigglypuff off-stage and your lucky to even hit them. Thats whats so different between Brawl and Melee.
