Is Brawl the Last Smash?

I was just wondering, is Brawl going to be the last Smash game? Do we even know, officially? The absolute most I could ever see Nintendo trying to make would be two more games after Brawl, although who knows? More and more characters will be created, and more and more content will be possible, so, in theory, they could continue making Smash games forever.
So, just a thought. If someone could answer this for me, it'd be appreciated. :)

Edit: Whoops, just realized its in the character discussion...could someone move it please?

Are the ever going to quit making Pokemon games? Probably not. You could catch and battle with God in D/P, but why stop there?

Will Nintendo stop producing Mario game? What would the last game be? "MARIOS FINAL BATTLE!" In a grueling duel, Mario and Bowser settle the age-old deal between dinosaurs and humans! Using his last power, he summons Meteo, sealing the fate of the vile race of dragons. Having used up his last strength, he crawls over to Peach, whispering from his blood-filled mouth: "I... love..."
...actually, no. Mario will keep going on forever. Well, until Miyamoto dies and Nintendo is taken over by a power-greedy tyrant.

Until then, it'll go on forever. Because there's just no reason for quitting what works.
And no, we know nothing officially about a next Smash. Except that this is supposedly Sakurai's last one. His, at least.

Most likely not, but I would love to see the next Nintendo handheld to have an analog stick so it can have smash on it.

I personally hope its the last one. A Smash without Sakurai leading it; just wouldn't be the same. And i don't want them to produce another one and completely screw it up.

Maybe Nintendo will start a new franchise with all the characters in it together, such as an action adventure. But not another smash.

Maybe one for handheld eventually

Sry, my points are gibberish.

This is probably going to be the last smash headed by Sakurai. Which is kind of depressing, but then again this smash might be all we need for a smash game ever again. Plus, I guess, it's pointless to think about it before brawl is eve out yet.

Just look forward to enjoying brawl. :)

I laughed so much from the mario comment there...

anyways, Smash is a new kind of gaming style, where charaters from call the games they have can be put into it, thus involving a great amount of popularity. I know for a fact that one day, when gaming series will come to an end, Smash will contiune to be made, cus the charaters will always live on.

plus, it sure is heck good money for nintendo, just look at how many people are here discussing about this game that's comming out in like a few months later. (hopefully)

WIll this be the last Smash in gneral? Probably not. WIll this be the Last smash being directed by Sakurai, whose been in charge of the series from it's inception? Probably yes.

Sakurai stated that, before he signed on for Brawl, that Miyamoto was gonna go ahead and do it anyway, making it Melee version 2

Racing!

I wouldn't mind if it was the last. On one hand, it seems like they will be leaving it on a good note, but on the other hand, if they screw it up, i'm gonna want them to make it up to us with another one.

It wont be screwed up, its being done by Sakurai, but what about Miyamotto. Who knows his motto? No one? I do. "A delayed game is eventually good, but a bad game is bad forever." I promise you hes gonna play it before its released, and if he doesnt like it, it will be delayed again. PLUS Its already been delayed for a year almost, it was supposed to come out on Wiis Launch.

You guys need to look at Sakurai's leaving as a good thing; with another person leading the next game's development, we'll get a different experience. This is what a series like Smash needs, as there's only so much that can be improved upon apart from the inclusion of characters.

As much as it saddens me to say, we're lucky that Sakurai is head of making Brawl, or that there is a third Smash game coming out to begin with. But then again, it's tough to guess the future, so we will just have to wait and see.

No point worrying about something that may or may not happen.

Fighting games tend to have a hell of a lot of sequels.
Nintendo also makes classic games immortal.
Starfox,Pokeman,Zelda,Mario, Donkey Kong, cooking Mama.
Nintendo will keep making them because they will start world peace.

I actually think this will be the last Smash. Just look at Sakurai, pulling out everything he can to make the perfect game! Another Smash will ruin what Sakurai is trying to create with Brawl, but nonetheless it would be nice to see a new Smash in about... 6 years?

No way it would be the last Smash. If Nintendo can make 500 Mario games, and 60 Mario Parties, they can make more than 3 Smashes.

I beleive it may be the last for the console but mabey a hand held version? I think this may be a big finisher seeing as they could have updates and such so mabey it will continue but with this version.

Racing would fu**** suck and would ruin smash legacy but back on topic I think that it will probably be Sakurai's last Smash but it will probably not be the last, because of it's success in the past and if Brawl is a success then most definetly will keep on going

Under the assumption that Smash Brawl will be one of the top sellers as well as given the fact that it is probably the most anticipated game for the Wii, the answer is a resounding "No". Just like film, where there's profit to be made, sequels abound. The Smash franchise stops once Nintendo no longer sees any expected future profits from further development, which I highly doubt is any time soon.

I DON'T KNOW!!!
I personally have a harder time seeing smash ending at this point as apposed to continuing on forever... Heck they wouldn't even need any newer characters... (Not that it ever hurts to have more)

I mean comparatively just look at how sucky Sonic games have gotten & he's STILL running on his 16 bit mojo...

At this rate 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years from now we will have roach's playing smash... Though the name might be different at that point because of emotional issues with that word...

Even if it is Sakurai's last SSB game (he said that with SSBM too...), there are plenty of good developers out there. I'm sure at least one of them could do his job.

On Planet Earth....most of the time
For as long as Mario has to save Peach's butt, as long as Link has to hit an awesome fatal blow to Ganon, as long as Samus keeps planet surfing and Pikachu keeps brainwashing the kiddies into catchin' em all, there will still be Smash. Such is truth.

I got the perfect idea for the next smash,

NINTENDO VS. SEGA

I figure since there making a Mario vs. Sonic Olympics, this is definitely possible.

It would be amazing, I think.

It would be a shame if Brawl was in fact the last smash game, but i highly doubt it though. Why would Nintendo discontinue their Best Selling series?

Basically, this is how I see it:

Brawl will own.

Brawl sells many many copies.

Nintendo says "HEY! This works!"

Nintendo asks Sakurai to make another one.

Sakurai says no.

Nintendo offers Sakurai a loooooooooooooooot of money.

Sakurai says yes.

Really, if Nintendo makes enough money off this game (sorry, but even Nintendo isn't that super happy, really friendly, in-it-for-the-joy-of-making-games company we all like to think it is;)), Smash will live forever. If Nintendo hasn't already learned that Sakurai makes the best Smash, the worst that will happen is they get someone else to make a sequel, it sucks, Nintendo then realizes Sakurai owns, and Sakurai makes another one. I really don't think this will be Sakurai's last Smash. And I'm not trying to make Sakurai sound greedy here, but - even if Sakurai says he wants to persue another project instead of Smash...... wouldn't YOU change your mind about it if the price was right?

Since Smash is absolute fanservice pwnsauce and happen to receive sales reflective of that the Smash series are basically a given for every Ninty console.

It is a system-seller for the 'core' audience, elicits controller sales (thus acting as a tie-in to the Classic Controller and, as a result, the VC) and is rolled out quite early in the console's life in order to keep the machine rolled out regularly, causing more exposure to friends who happen to like some fighting that is an ungodly amount of fun yet is more accesible than FPSs or Virtua Fighter et al.

Call it a pounding, money-maker shakin' background beat to the bridges of the summer drought and the chori (choruses?) that are the holiday sale spikes... It keeps on going, absolutely indispensible yet not the most obvious aspect of the song that is a console cycle.

Enough metaphors. I hope you know what I mean.

I add - Don't forget the IRS employees, Paris Hilton and Keith Richards for 4-playing mayhem! Sure, neither of these three are as smart, amicable or at first glance capable of survival as the roaches but they never seem to go away either.

Paris Hilton won't live long enough to play smash. She will die in jail, mwahahahahahahahah.

If smash continues to make money, it will continue to live.

As long as people keep buying them, Nintendo will keep making them. That's the way business works.
This is the one and only ruth.

But, If Brawl is as succesfull as i think is going to be, i very much doubt that another sequel done by someone whos isnt sakurai, will be as succesfull.

Of course it won't, even if Sakurai doesn't stick around for the next smash, smash will still be going on and will forever own because Nintendo knows that if they take a big selling game out of the market, then that will really cut out some serious chunk of money, and Nintendo knows that they surely wouldn't want more people turning to Sony and Xbox so....yea smash will own

Don't forget either that Nintendo could look at Smash and decide "Okay, we've made enough from this."

If they deem the time right they could just stop making it for whatever reason, as long as they made a fair proift. So if they think that they won't make enough to contunue Smash without Sakurai, then they could not even bother putting money into a sequel.
