Is anyone else obsessed with Tipper jabs/f-tilts?!

Pichu doesn't have it to bad, most the time he can sneak it under the shield and follow with a tech chase at mid %. But even then...

Sometimes I like to F-tilt knee with falcon.

Jabs yes, ftilts, not so much.

I mean sure, it's useful, but generally speaking, there's something better.

Utilt and dtilt both start up faster and have less lag, fsmash is only about three frames slower in coming out and winds down in just thirteen frames more.

Grabs and reverse Dolphin Slashes are worth mentioning too.

Legendary Attack

Many people are unaware of this incredibly rare and difficult attack. It is a variation of Marth's smash attack and can only be done with superior timing. If an opponent is hit with the very tip of Marth's sword (within one pixel) it creates a one-hit-KO. This attack is nearly impossible to pull off due to its need for superior timing and mastery of all other attacks. If one is able to pull off this attack then one is certainly worthy of the title of master player.

What? I love tipped f-tilts. Sure they come out slow, but they're definitely useful.

U-tilt and d-tilt do come out faster, but they don't have nearly the same range as the f-tilt nor would be used in the same situation that an f-tilt would be used in. I mostly use it as a punishing attack if my opponent is making a stupid approach or if they're not spacing themselves well and only keep themselves out of range of the f-smash.

Which brings me to why I use the f-tilt instead of the f-smash even when my opponent would be exposed. The thing is, if I'm not mistaken, the f-tilt does go farther than the f-smash. And isn't as easily punishable if you misjudge the distance. So with the extra length you're less likely to whiff an attack and you don't get owned if you miss. Sounds pretty good to me. And it's also useful to just create distance, even if it doesn't hit, it can just be a friendly reminder to your opponent that Marth has a ridiculously long reach and make your opponent go on the defensive. This allows for you to capitalize on this and force them into corners that only lead to gimp kills, et cetera.

And grabs/reverse Dolphin Slashes are a terrible alternative to an f-tilt. Grabs are used at completely different times (f-tilt has higher priority, less of a risk if someone's approaching with an attack), and the reverse Dolphin Slash leaves you incredibly exposed. That's something you don't use unless you're pretty darn sure it'll hit (it's something I either combo into, or know my opponent won't see coming). And both of them have less range than the f-tilt.

Sorry if I just went on a mini-rant, but I think the f-tilt has a lot going for it when the time is right. I also believe it can hit people on platforms on some stages (For some reason it wasn't working against Sheik but I'm pretty sure it works sometimes on Battlefield. Maybe I'm just thinking of the moving platforms on FoD). Anyway, that's my two cents.

And I never really used tipped jabs. I rarely jab at all. <.<;;

What do you guys use jabs for except gimps? I never really saw a purpose to them as they didn't really give any knockback.

Jabs are also useful to set up for a re-grab as most of the time space animals and falcon will be rattled by it and go into shield. Afterwards just JC grab.

Since apparently now Upsmash is part of the marth metagame.

Who will rescue downsmash?
I occasionally see M2k use dsmash to punish a roll back onto the stage when edge-guarding but I typically don't use it. Btw, how is usmash a part of marth's meta-game now? Did I miss something? If you can upsmash you can most certainly uair or utilt. Upsmash has limited options as far as combo-ability, too.

I think Cactuar usmashes when people are to the side of him, and banks on them missing the tech to connect with the fsmash.

Dunno, I never found too much use for those two smashes.

Haha. I wouldn't recommend imitating me. I do stupid stuff that shouldn't work.

I don't really do usmash when people are next to me... I go for tipper usmash for the kill. :laugh:

Hey Cactuar, do you know if the weak hitbox of the usmash has set knockback, or is it just a weak hit?

dsmash is AMAZING. tipper star KO and non tipper side KO. way toooo good. and a lot faster than fsmash
Ummm, I'm gonna go ahead and pretend I didn't just hear you recommend dsmash over fsmash for ANY reason.

1. Dsmash has limited range. Fsmash has great range.

2. There aren't as many things that combo into dsmash. Fsmash you can combo out of just about anything.

3. Dsmash's lag is way too punishable if you miss. Fsmash, while still punishable, is nowhere near as risky.

4. Dsmash can't hit ten-feet above your head. Fsmash.....need I say more?
