Fact: adumbrodeus needs to be smacked with the 'no sense of sarcasm' stick.
Perhaps if this hadn't been an ongoing internet rumor that I've debunked for the 50 thousandth time, on a site that was more politically sophisticated on average then this, then I would've interpreted it as sarcasm.

Fact: Sarcasm doesn't work in simply text if the claim, even if it's ridiculous, is made regularly.

Hence why I asked if he was joking.

I don't believe that City dweller one. Though it would make sense I don't think we develop along the lines of that just cause theres more pollution there.. maybe there is just a larger population of hairy people in the city haha.

And yes I do believe snails breathe through their feet... I forgot most of the stuff I learned in Biology last year. But they basically breath through their entire body and part of their body is called a foot.. Or something... coming from memory.

I understood perfectly what you meant, but you can't seem to support your view. :p
That's because that claim is just one of the many jabs the sexes take at eachother. It probably started as a widespread playful jab, and apparently fell into factdom.

However, it's not a fact, if not for the mere reason that it's impossible to state (or even measure) how often everyone and anyone, down to the second, thinks of any thing. Period.

It's impossible to state how often someone thinks of something during their period?

.
It Depends: I get what you're trying to say, but you have to be specific. 1 gallon of cold water will weigh more than 1 gallon of warm water, yes. But you have to note that you're talking about warm water and cold water in equal amounts of volume, otherwise it's not true.

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria

Water is heaviest at +4 celsius degrees. This is also why lakes don't usually freeze to the bottom and thus, leaving the fish in the lake alive.

well you dont have to think of them in a bad way. and you really dont have to realize it. but all guys(straight) think of girls every 3 seconds(prolly on average)
False. Since there's been some arguing about this in the last few posts, I just want to confirm that this is a baseless claim.

The white paint that Geisha's put on their face is made from Bird Crap
False. It's been made from a lot of things in the past (never bird crap... mostly plant or oil based pigments); in modern times, it's made of water, glycerin, and white powder containing zinc or titanium oxides.

- there's an island called Vommit island.
- some trees on vommit island get killed because of all the birds crapping and vommiting on them
True. The so-called "Vomit Island" is actually called West Sister Island and is located in Lake Erie in Ohio. It was featured on an episode of Dirty Jobs.

"The warmest temperature ever recorded on Antarctica was 3 degrees F."
False. The warmest temperature ever recorded in Antarctica was 59 degrees F (15 degrees C) in 1974.

"The chemicals indole and skatole, which help to account for the particular smell of human feces, are used as ingredients in perfume"
True. Now that is interesting and ironic!

- in a certain state in the United States of America(i forget which) English isnt the official language, American is.
Partially True. At least, American was the official language in that state. In 1923, Illinois passed a bill declaring the official state language as "American"; but it was amended (back to "English") in 1969.

"Elephants are the only animals that can't jump."
False. There are plenty of animals that can't jump, and it's not even confirmed that elephants are one of them. While you probably won't see most elephants jumping, there is apparently an "Elephant Jumping Festival" held annually in Nairobi, Africa; it's possible that African elephants can "jump", even if only a little.

I hope you mean land animals... 'cos I can't see, say, a blue whale jumping any time soon =P
Blue whales actually have been known to "breach" (jump out of the water); in fact, many marine animals do this, including humpback whales, dolphins, and great white sharks among others.
http://www.northwestwildlife.com/articles/the_blue_whale.pdf

I also hope you mean mammals? Because I can't see a slug jumping at all.
Other mammals that can't jump include sloths, hippopotamuses, manatees, and maybe even some small rodents.

A car traveling 100 mph would take more than 29 million years to reach the nearest star.
True. Well, almost. The star closest to the earth (besides the sun) is Proxima Centauri which is about 4.2 light years away from us, or 39,735,360,000,000,000 meters (24,690,360,643,200 miles). A car traveling 100 mph (44.7 meters/second) would take 888,934,228,187,920 seconds to reach it, which is 28,169,228 years. So it would take just over 28 million years to do it!

A couple more now, and maybe a few more later tonight!

There are more fatal car accidents in July than any other month.
True. The NHTSA makes available a convenient table of motor vehicle accident statistics. According to it, there were more fatal car crashes in July of 2006 than any other month in that year; 3,524 to be exact. It was the same in 2005. However, in 2003 and 2004, August had the most, and in 2003, it was September. You can view data all the way back to 1994 on the website.
http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/Crashes/CrashesTime.aspx

It snows more in the Grand Canyon than it does in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
True. The Grand Canyon's North Rim averages 142" per year, and its South Rim gets about 58" per year. Either way, both numbers are higher than the amount of snowfall Minneapolis received in 2006-2007: a mere 48.6".

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mpx/mspSnowfall.php

Snails breathe through their feet.
Partially True. Land snails do breathe through their skin, which includes the foot. Aquatic snails have gills near their rear and a mouth in front. And a few very specialized land snails have an actual lung in the rear of their body and all gas exchange takes place there instead of through the skin.

When your face blushes, the lining of your stomach turns red, too.
False. At least as far as I know, the two are not related. It's also possible to look at this from a physiological perspective: Blushing is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system, which shunts blood away from the digestive system/stomach; digestion and directing of blood to the digestive organs is controlled by the parasympathetic system. So in other words, the two are caused by competing parts of the nervous sytem.

If you uncoiled the strand of DNA in one human cell, it would be over six feet long.

Currently, scientists know the function of only approximately 25% of the DNA in a human cell.

In mathematics, "God's Equation" relates the (arguably) five most important numbers in mathematics. The equation is e^((pi)(i)) + 1 = 0.

Traditional film-using cameras actually take two frames of pictures; this is why a blur occurs when observing objects in motion. The second frame occurs when the subject is a very small distance away from where it was in the first frame.

Microsoft's MS-DOS and Microsoft Internet Explorer were not originally created by Microsoft. A Seattle-based computer company created Q-DOS, which Microsoft purchased and remade into MS-DOS. Internet Explorer was based on a browser sold by an independent software developer, bundled in a pack with other software programs.

Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard.

A relatively-unknown heavenly body, nicknamed "Nemesis" by those who study it, apparently revolves around the sun as the planets do. Its revolution period is approximately 26 million years, and is thought to be the cause of the periodic mass extinctions throughout the Earth's history. Nemesis is thought to be another star.

No one person invented the Internet. Al Gore, Tim Berners-Lee, the Department of Defense, no one. The final Internet is the result of the work of many, many people.

There's some more facts for you guys. Some have likely already been posted, but I thought I'd give you something to do in checking them.

True?I like math ones. This is a really cool equation, but it's called Euler's Equation. I've never heard it called "god's equation".

No one person invented the Internet. Al Gore, Tim Berners-Lee, the Department of Defense, no one. The final Internet is the result of the work of many, many people.
True... but some are more prominent than others. Vinton Cerf is commonly called "The father of the internet" because he pretty much invented TCP/IP.

Fact: Vinton Cerf was the inspiration for The Architect character in the Matrix. Actually I just made that up, but look at him. He has to be. Seriously

A cow gives nearly 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.
Milking cows usually end up to burgers at the age of about 5 years and a good cow can produce about 8200 liters of milk a year - about 35 000 liters as they don't milk instantly after birth. A glass is about 2,5dl, which gives us 140 000 glasses of milk per cow.

An egg will float if placed in water in which sugar has been added.
Actually, an egg will float in water if it's not cooked and if it's not yet deteriorated.

Dirty snow melts faster than clean.
Yeah, pure snow reflects the sun rays off them better than the infrared-sucking darker snow.

A score of zero in tennis is called "love" because it is a distortion of the French word "oeuf," which means... "goose egg." (don't ask me how an egg is connected to the score of zero in tennis... maybe because it's the same shape?)
