Interest for a Large Tournament in the UK?

Hi guys, I am looking into the possibility of getting a few sensible members of the UK community together to organise a large tournament in London during the easter holidays. For this to happen, we'll need some people to confirm interest.
I can get a venue for a weekend in April, but I will still need to look into housing and how that would work out.
Is 4months in advance too short notice?
I understand Brawl in Berlin is also happening sometime soon, depends when that is and if people would rather go to Germany or England for smash.

i can confirm all of my crews interest, which amounts to about 6 people. we can house about 6 people between us

thats melee though, with no melee you will struggle to get 10 entrants.. the brawl community isn't very consistent. i think my crew has more active melee players than total brawlers in the uk

you could be fine with just doing a all brawl tourney in London theres plenty of brawlers here that would like a tourney in London. + other brawlers wouldn't mind traveling there since they have done it before

if you want bigger numbers melee + brawl which would be harder to sort out though.

im more than sure people will support you if you give it enough notice

but would be nice to do a all brawl event to put London on the map

I really want it to be melee + brawl but I would like a melee player to organise the melee side. I asked Kone if he'd like to but he refused because SNY2 is in August. apparently 4 months inbtween the two tournies isnt enough of a gap for him

Melee + brawl if Fuzzy or Alex(or any other serious melee player tbh) will be up for co-hosting. otherwise, just brawl... I have access to a 60 person venue, a 40 person venue and a 100-person venue all in the same area and within the same price range for me.

Venue would likely be quite near to King's Cross/St Pancras, venue fee would be £5... I'll work on specifics later.

right now the venue is filled with big t.vs, its hard to even pack little ones in too.



I was planning to expand the community in 2011, possibly linking back into NeoEmpire again and my goal is to have ongoing national tournaments or London ones at least. Rather than having casual monthlies

if you can make a deal with a bigger venue (especially where you say the locations are awesome) such as constant use every 2 months and being able to store t.vs there then sort it out with me =) I'll get my t.vs there

Then I can stop hosting in ****ty barkingside, maybe even expand into not having just smash bros

At this point BiB2 is not confirmed at all. If it's going to happen there will probably be a limit of 80 entrants. Other details are unknown as of yet [it may actually be a Melee + Bralw tourney, in which case there might be a 40/40 split for both games] but plans are that it's held during the german easter holidays.

A 40/40 split @BiB2 would essentially make it a germany-only tournament which would make dutch / french Brawl attendance more likely for your tournament but as I said it's all up in the air right now. If BiB2 is going to be Brawl only things will look completely different. I can keep you updated with news if you want.

this all sounds great. it wou;d be nice to work together towards a bigger, better scene. how many TVs dyu have again? I'll look into making a deal with the venue owners.

It ain't just the time issue Bmac but the fact that I am a teacher. I ain't at Uni with plenty of spare time. I am able to run SNY2 as its in my 6 weeks holiday and therefore can dedicate time to it (and ensuring I do it properly).

Hmm the very slightly annoying thing about this is that me and X1-12 were planning on hosting a melee only tournament around that period of time in the reading area, something about expanding into areas outside of just London only nationals or something like that.
Either way I don't think our tournament could compete unless the fact that it was melee only is a decision changing factor.
On the other hand, I haven't really heard from him about this for about a month and I don't live anywhere near the area so I can't really do it on my own and I'm mega busy the coming month so maybe it wasn't meant to be for us.
Either way good luck with this, will pm him now to see whats up.

It looks very much like the tourney I would have run is off, since I can't get anything reasonable from venues in my area until I turn 18, or until I learn to drive so the SATiRe tourney is cancelled guys.

On a better note, I hope this tourney is awesome, dual brawl/melee nationals at a good venue should increase turnout for both games. I will gladly help out running melee if you need a hand.

okay guys... so it sounds like a lot of people are on board. we currently have only ONE issue. TVs.

Fuzzy has offered up his TVs (about 10-15 i think) but we still need 30 to come from somewhere. Gonna be looking at Craig's List, Gumtree etc.

You could just use me a decoy and do stuff in my name if you want. I'm in the area for another week or two until I head back so if you need a "responsible adult type person you could use me.

You might actually get enough by then and then someone can drive down more or however you're looking to get the TV's down.

One of the major problems about this tournament is that you haven't asked if you can have the 'Official Professor Pro Seal' which guarantees a tournament with hype and a decent turnout.

I like how we have a tightly knit and friendly melee community, I think the commercialisation that fuzzy seems to want (with big names sponsoring players etc) would just ruin it. Especially bringing in other games and their communities, having the brawlers there is bad enough ;P
