Yeah I recall it being there. I remember when I saw they could it seemed a bit odd for them to have, but I remember seeing it somewhere.

Well after seeing a video that Sonic takes damage while swimming, I fully believe that Inklings will as well. Which makes sense why they would, but is one of those details I wish was passed over in Smash.

Are there even any legal stages with water for extended periods of time?

I think Delfino was legal for a while in Brawl, but it got cut eventually. Tortimer Island might be legal with Stage hazards off, but it’s so big I doubt it will be.

Just remember you could always be worse off. Charizard/Incineroar, who are big bodies and heavy/have low jumps, and have recoveries not really ideal for covering horizontal distance (Charizard needs space/height to pull off Flare Blitz) definitely struggle more getting out of water.

Exhibit A:

At the very least you aren't taking that much damage. Even here, it only built up to around 7% after 7 seconds in/out of the water.

...Does every character take damage when swimming, or just those with canonical reasons to not appreciate being immersed in water? I could totally see damage while swimming being a thing to counteract water stalling in this game.

It seems to only be characters that have an aversion to water. The clip I saw of Sonic was against a DK on Great Bay. Both Sonic and DK were in and out of the water, but Sonic was the only one take damage. So, of the top of my head the characters affected by this are Sonic, Charizard, Incineroar and our dear Inklings.

I suppose that is very little amount of damage. It's like staying in a blast zone for too long. Also, Charizard can switch to Squirtle so he can have a bit of a better time getting out of the water. While it still bites to take any type of damage, I guess I'll be look at it this way: They are staying true to the source material. (And hey, at least Inklings don’t just poof after being in the water.)

Wasn't sure where to dig around and ask around here to see if anyone has some of the alternate Stock Icons, but I think this is one of the busier character threads that this applies to. I been trying to save decent sized Stock Icons from Ultimate and haven't seen any of the alternate characters like Male Wii Fit Trainer and Inkling. Female Corrin, Villager, or Robin. Alternate Ike or Cloud. And the Koopalings. Anyone seen them?

I don't think they exist as official icons as anything but what you've seen. They are used in the fighters by series page of smashbros.com and each fighter slot only has one icon to represent all of that slot. There would need to be female pkmn trainer as well.

That's disappointing. I know they exist since I watched some Cloud footage that had his stock icons changed based on his alternate look as well as a Female Corrin video. I'd like to have the complete roster including the alternates.

Hopefully we will get access to them down the road.

You're kind of confusing me when you say, "stock icon". Do you mean stock as in a stock match or stock as in the raw icon image? I haven't noticed the game including these icons in stock matches because most of the gameplay has been timed, however; I do know that these icons show up on smashbros.com and that there is no alternate there. Hopefully you find them. That would be pretty cool.

The ones that are like the icon I posted with the original post asking of Inkling. They appear to be the game's stock game mode icon representing the lives. They actually stay at the bottom at the damage %'s during stock battles and pop up during the score/life counter when people get KO'd.

I'll actually need all the Inklings! Like the Koopalings, they all differ. (2:08 for a score/life pop up)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suH3hp_lZmQ

Also here's Cloud A (1:29 for a score/life pop up)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv32JOt9pbo

And Cloud B (1:19 for a score/life pop up)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFtMG_sGobQ

I tinker with making myself backgrounds for my computer and wanted to use the icons. Then of course the completion side of me wants the alternate forms especially when I use some of them over the other option!

I see what you're talking about now. If they don't show up before then I'm sure someone will end up pulling that out of the game at some point. So you want all eight version of each of the 80 characters on the game? lol Such a completionist. Can't complain though. I scrubbed the smash bros site for as many icons and images as I could. I use them in the forums to spruce up my threads. :)

Haha, probably not all versions of all characters as they might not even change with simple the color swaps like Blue Peach or Purple Luigi. But all the ones that are alternate forms. Like Blue Inkling =/= Lime Inkling =/= Orange Inkling, Male WFT =/= Female WFT, and PoR Ike =/= RD Ike. Though I'm actually not sure if Ike's will be different. The ones that are big differences. I want those when someone gets them!

And yes, Smash supplies us with some pretty and cool artwork of our favorite Nintendo characters. <3

What do you guys think the Inklings’ classic theme will be? My guess is that’s color themed and ends with a fight against Galleom, since he sort of looks like an Octoweapon.

I'd wait until the game comes out, since I get the feeling others are trying to avoid showing bosses that we've seen absolutely nothing of. For all we know DJ Octavio could very well be a boss.

same thing with isabelle's general discussion thread....people just barely post there and it seems like most replies just go straight to either the king k.rool sub-forum or the ridley sub-forum

meanwhile Inkling Players And Isabelle Players for example have to deal with responses taking much longer to arrive

why is that?

That’s because Ridley and K Rool are much more popular with people on smash boards. Inkling is mainly popular with kids so there won’t be as much discussion before release. Don’t worry though, once people realize that K Rool and Ridley are trash, they’ll move to other character’s boards.

Also, we’re kind of caught in the weird time where we don’t have anything to speculate, but can’t start competitive discussion. Things will pick up after a demo (Possibly this weekend?) or release.

i mean hell it's been a week since bayonetta's sub-forum had any activity and the belmonts sub-forum social thread has not had any activity since last thursday...so go figure

i guess I'm just bummed that K.Rool and ridley have machine gun rapid responses usually while most of the cast is just waiting around for one person to reply in several hours to a week at worst

Maybe you should actually take a quick look at those boards and re-assess that statement...

Implying fans of Ridley and K. Rool will ditch them just for not being too viable. Also just plain jumping to conclusions about said viability.
yeah i can agree that was a bit of a **** move but i imagine he's just frustrated and lashing out at the K.Rool/Ridley fans because the inkling sub-forum barely gets any attention at all

no reason to even be here when it seems like it's a ghost town

one more thing I'd say Implying Most Inkling And Isabelle Players would be children(so discussions on message boards would be lackluster)is just as bad as implying K.Rool/Ridley fans would dump them if they weren't top tier

I’m fairly sure that discussion will flair up everywhere once people have access to the game. There's little to talk about about that's new. It's mostly still speculation. We've all been speculating about Inklings since March, and even before!

This seems a bit unfair to lash out like this. Inklings could very well be trash too, and will you abandon this board if that's the case? Everyone will have the characters that they like. We could even see an influx of people if Inklings turn out to be really good too!

You guys are right. Calling them trash before the game comes out is kind of toxic, I’m sorry.

Basically, all I meant was that the hype will die down, some people will move to other characters and some will stay. They’ll probably always have more activity than other boards, but it won’t be nearly as polarized as it is now.

Well we could talk about their tier placement again now that we know more about how Ultimate works. Here’s what I think is good and bad about Inklings

Pros:
-Great ground speed
-Great recovery with mixup potential
-Decent projectile
-Decent damage output with ink
-Aimable windbox

Cons:
-Poor damage output without ink
-Few combos (might just be undiscovered idk)
-Bad throws
-Filling up ink is laggy
-Lack of kill power

I feel like they won’t be top tier, but they might show up in top 8 on occasion.

As I said before, forums as a whole are kind of a ghost town with people mostly sticking to social media/Discord for pre-release speculation/hype.

Early on, I feel like they'll be seen as very strong. Some good players may or may not pick them up based on previous interest (Abadango, Cosmos, Wrath, Xzax to name a few) while some may discover later on as they try all the new characters. If nothing else I feel they'll attract character specialists and be a popular secondary

Does anyone want to discuss which of the color palette they'll tend to use for the Inklings? Which, actually they are almost full on costumes aren't they lol? Here's what I'm going to gravitate towards.

Agent 3 - This look has grown on me over time. I didn’t care for it much in the first game, but in Splatoon 2 I found myself really enjoying it after the Octo Expansion. It's almost a bit nostalgic in a way, though I’m not sure if Splatoon is old enough to feel nostalgic yet...

Green - My favorite color, and the look is pretty darn sharp. Intimidating with a sleek green and black.

School Outfit - I’m a sucker for these. While the appeal has worn out for me on this one since the first, I enjoy the color and will probably still frequently use it.

What a coincidence! I was going to bring up the same topic to liven up this place a little!

Personally, I'm a big fan of the pink costume. That girl has a really cool hat!

I think their aerial game is relatively weak, not bad by any means but nothing special.

Yeah, their Aerials don’t look the best, but I bet they can still do some pretty tricky things.

Abadango seems to be interested in Inklings. I bet we get some high level play from him this weekend at the Thanksgiving tournament in Japan.

too much gameplay footage of people forgetting to refill ink....
I got to play the demo last week and I didn’t really forget to do this. I kind of wonder if the people playing Inkling have really been following how to use them? Their explanation was back in June, but because I was so interested in them I immediately remembered that the input for refilling ink was shield and special. (Though I almost did try to go into squid form from Splatoon 2...)
