If DL64 is a neutral, then yoshi's should be neutral. I can understand battlefield being non neutral, since it's a very glitchy stage. I can't help but point out that XIF is seemingly constructing a ruleset that benefits his peach. Also, XIF's ruleset seems to favor his dislike for counterpick stages of which has made very vocal at previous tournaments (____ taking him to gay stages).
Neutrals only without DSR really negates the whole point of having other stages. might as well have an only final D tournament.

Sign me up!

Put the games you want to pre-register for sign up for: Smash Brawl Singles, Arcana Heart. (Maybe Brawl doubles if I can get a partner)
Any equipment (if you're bringing it) you plan on bringing besides a controller: Nintendo Wii with Brawl. Ps2 with Arcana Heart. A 26" Flatscreen if you want it.
Your hometown: Shelbyville, Tennessee.

What's the stance on infinites? (i.e. Dedede Dthrow on DK and Grab Release Infinite vs. Ness/Lucas) I'm just curious.

Also curious... I happen to be like... the only vegetarian in the south. Are we allowed to bring food/drink into the area or will there be a vegetarian catering option? >,>

I just skimmed through this.

Xif, i want you to tell me what major tourneys you've gone to that banned CP stages.

Neutrals only is ********. If you can play on neutrals better than your opponent, you win the set anyways and you know it.

We can discuss it at the tournament, the host is flexible, and even though i highly highly disagree with allowing CP's (nothing wrong with DSR) if its like everyone wants mute, RC, brinstar, and DK64 then whatever.

I make rulesets that I see fair. If it were about me winning, i'd take off yoshi's and BF in a heartbeat. You guys know How I stand on stages, and all i am asking for is to understand that I'm trying to run a tournament I see fit.

I'm willing to budge even on wobbling, no sense in such large animosity over the rules. I just hope that everyone can understand where I come from and not be selfish over rules they do not feel that strongly about, when I obviously feel strongly enough to stand the insults in the topic.

So lets stop the discussion, and please leave it til the tournament.

Melee for life.

I don't intend on playing Melee but these paragraphs are full of flaws that I have to point out. You're asking them to drive potentially many hours for a tournament that they don't like the rules at under hopes that they can get you to change them to a more accepted ruleset when they get there. You refuse to budge on the rules until the tournament happens. Why on earth would you wait such a long time to let them discuss the rules? It's in OCTOBER. Which is a gazillion months away.

Why not settle this now so that perhaps even more people can come and you don't just lull them into a false sense of security and promise change when they get there, and then deny all addendums to your ruleset when the tournament actually happens which, to me, is what you seem to be scheming.

I am the tournament host by the way and I understand completely where you are coming from on this issue. It wouldn't be fair for people to come out and the rule list not be like how the way they like it hoping for it to be good the day of the tournament.

Xif, not to say I don't understand you or do not like where you are coming from at all. It's just that we want to open up the doors to as many people as possible and they are voicing their opinions and letting us know that they don't like the rule set. If this is the case then they are giving us an early opportunity to save as many of these people as we can coming to the tournament. I am going to have to go with the default rule set since I cannot afford to alienate quite a few people and secondly, we cannot keep your rules up and confuse people coming and then switch it up. These people are consistently practicing daily and they are practicing with what has become the standard rule set and to switch it up on them all the sudden would not be fair. I appreciate all of your help and how you helped fix the brackets at the other Impact Clash. Your assistance was appreciated and I still look at your as highly as I did then, as I do now. And your stern will to stand behind your opinion is really admirable.

Now the next step is for someone to post a rule set we can all agree on for both Melee and Brawl. Just give me a rule set that's pretty much standard for both games and I'll replace it with that. We have to cater to the majority, even if sometimes we find ourselves in the minority.

General Tournament Rules

4 Stock, 8 minute time limit for both singles and doubles

All items are OFF

Games are done, Best of 3, Finals will be best of 5.

Both Single and doubles will be DOUBLE ELIMINATION.(Pools for singles only)

Doubles Team Attack is ON, LIFE stealing is allowed.

BYOC: I dont think this should be a problem anyways.

In the case of a GameCube/TV malfunction, the game will be restarted from the beginning, no matter what time it crashed.

All decisions made by tournament officials are final.

Players must conduct themselves in a reasonable manner. Permanent ejection of a player from the tournament is at the staff's discretion.

Any sign of cheating will also result in forfeit of the game.

Any intentional forfeiting or conspiring to manipulate the brackets will result in ejection and possible suspension from future tournaments.

Controller mods of ANY kind (short-hop mod, L-trigger mod, etc), except for cosmetic changes (paint job, different colored plastic), are banned. Tournament staff may randomly inspect any controller at their discretion. If you are caught using a banned controller you will be immediately disqualified from the tournament.

Turbo or programmed buttons of any kind are banned. You may use third party controllers or pads that have these features, but if you are suspected of using the banned features you will not be allowed to use that controller any longer.

The stage for Game 1 will be selected at random unless both players/teams can agree on one.

Double Blind Rule: For the first game of a series, a player may call for a double-blind pick. This means that all participating players must tell a judge the character they will use for that game. Each player is required to use that character in the game.

Singles random select stages: Final Destination, Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Fountain of Dreams, Dreamland 64, & Pokemon Stadium

Doubles random select stages: Final Destination, Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Dreamland 64 & Pokemon Stadium

Stages not listed on the random select list that are not banned are open for counter picks by the losing player.

Stages banned for Doubles Only: Fountain of Dreams and Mute City.

Stages banned for Singles Only: Mushroom Kingdom II. (Yes, after reviewing of rulesets and etc, we have deemed to once again ban this stage.)

Stages banned for Singles & Doubles: Yoshi’s Island (Pipes), Fourside, Hyrule Temple, Flatzone, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Big Blue, Mushroom Kingdom 1, Venom, Yoshi's Island 64, Peach’s Castle, Kongo Jungle, Onett, and Great Bay.

No stage may be used twice in a Best of 3 or Best of 5 Series unless agree upon by both players.

After characters have been selected for the first game, each player/team may choose one stage from the available tournament list that won’t be used during the series.

After each game of a series, the player who lost the previous game may choose the stage for the next game or elect for it to be chosen randomly. After the stage has been selected, the winner of the previous game may change characters. After the winner has chosen their character, the loser of the previous game may change characters.

Label your stuff! Label your T.V.s, your Cubes/Wiis, Memory Cards, Controllers, Testicles, WHATEVER MAY BE OF VALUE TO YOU!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I dunno if pool play will be needed or not, depends on the number of players who enter. Also, in this thread we might want to vote on a wobbling policy. I grabbed these rules from G4S5, but I deleted the section about wobbling jic a different verdict is made for this tournament.

I vote it for being turned OFF.

I felt my first (only) post should be reposted. I use this for Columbus tournaments that I hold, and generally the OOS and locals and most of Georgia have no problem with it at all. :) Just trying to lend a helping hand.

I do believe this rule set is fair. It lasted 5 tournaments without it once being criticized (unless you count Chaddd wanting MKII, but <3 Chaddd)

EDIT: This is Melee btw.

EDIT 2: @Mars - I think you mentioned what about DSR. Though I don't have it listed in the rules as DSR (I got a bunch of the technicalities from MLG '05's ruleset), I have it as...

No stage may be used twice in a Best of 3 or Best of 5 Series unless agree upon by both players.
Cool? This way the opponent can allow someone to go back to a stage that was previously won on, but they don't have to if they don't want to. :)

My suggestions for Brawl ruleset modifiers:

Move it up to 4 stock, eight or nine minutes. 3 stock is a little too limiting for the person who dies first.

Random select stages: Final Destination, Battlefield, Delfino Plaza, Yoshi's Island, Lylat Cruise, Castle Siege, Smashville, Pokemon Stadium 1.

Stages banned for Singles & Doubles: Mushroomy Kingdom [Overworld/Underworld], Rumble Falls, Bridge of Eldin, Wario Ware, Distant Planet, New Pork City, Temple, Yoshi's Island (Pipes), Onett, Donkey Kong Arcade, Spear Pillar, Mario Bros., Flat Zone 2, The Summit, Big Blue, Green Greens.
This means for counterpicks you have Mario Circuit (As much as I like this stage, no one likes getting pulled across the entire stage and KO'd because they got grabbed once), Pirate Ship (Okay with me, prolly not with everyone else), Norfair, Frigate Orpheon, Port Town Aero Dive(Please tell me this is an oversight), Skyworld(Ewwwwwwwwwww), Pictochat(Hell yes! <333 ), Luigi's Mansion(Double Hell Yes!), Hanenbow (*shrug), Shadow Moses Island (This needs to be banned due to easy walls and walk-offs when one side is not walled), Green Hill Zone (Walk Offs should be banned from tournament use due to easy chain grabbing KO's.), Jungle Japes (In Brawl this should go because of the swimming mechanic), Corneria (Ew @ Corneria, but whatever. I'll just make it the stage I disallow on my matches), Rainbow Cruise, Brinstar, and Pokestadium 2.

After each game of a series, the player who lost the previous game may choose the stage for the next game or elect for it to be chosen randomly. After the stage has been selected, the winner of the previous game may change characters. After the winner has chosen their character, the loser of the previous game may change characters
I don't like that the loser gets to counter with both stage and character in Brawl, but eh.

Anywho. Back to my previous questions:

Can we bring our own food if we don't like a menu option from the catering?
What's the stance on infinites like Dedede Grab vs. a few characters and Grab Release Chain against Ness/Lucas in Brawl?

Oh **** =o that whole day was kind of a haze hahah..I hadn't slept at all the day before and most of it was brawl so I wasn't very into it >_>

My pika's good in Melee hahah, I've really never played much Pika in brawl.

Gerbil's melee rules are the most standard and used nearly all Melee tournies.

You can bring you own food. Just hide it very well because outside food is not allowed into the World Congress Center but as long as you make it into my room you're perfectly fine. And by the way, at my last tournament, no one even know outside food wasn't allowed into the facility and they were bringing it in and none of the staff said a word. So, you would be perfectly fine. But just in case, make sure you attempt to hide it if you can until you get into the buildling. There's the CNN Center across the street with a Chic-Fil-A, Wendy's, Great Wraps, etc. so you can go over there and grab something. We are changing up the catering and we're actually going to offer Chic-Fil-A nuggets and chicken strips instead of the original things I posted. I don't think anyone is digging what I posted and I think finger foods would be better off than foods that require a fork. As far as all the other technicalities in the rules, we can further discuss them and see what everyone thinks. We still have two full months away to discuss these issues.

By the way were Gerbil's rules for Melee or were they for Brawl? We'll need both official rule sets.

let gerbil do the rule set.

I go to countless tournaments with rulesets I dont agree with. travelled over 1000 miles to get knocked out by onett. It happens.

I never had this kind of resistance using the three stage ruleset in FL I use.

I forgot how closed minded everyone is.

I open the floor for discussion at the tournament, and its just ignored like that. discussing at the tournament with all the players present gives one a better idea of where everyone stands (not everyone posts).

so forget it.

so wait xif, you want to use a ruleset that benefits mostly the higher tiers? lol I don't think it's fair to most of you players but.....

I see what he's aiming for though.
and xif, Standards>>>>>****>>>>ideals

i say keep wobbling in. It isn't like PB&J is going to insta-win with it on anyways *runs*
