I wonder what voice-over they will have for Ike now that he is older by about 3 years. From FE8 I think he was 16-18 or something. Normally, I imagine a deeper voice for someone that buffed up. But, that does not mean a person will change voice simply because they get to work out more. Still my guess is his voice will get deeper for really no reason at all >_>

Hopefully, some new taunts as well :D

edit:
On second though, he probably won't <_< Those images of his at the smashbros site make me think he will just retain all of his old stuff. He simply looks older.

There wasn't much voice acting in FE9 or FE10. Usually, what little they did have was pretty bad, as well. But I was kinda surprised that Ike's voice in Brawl was very close to his voice in Path of Radiance. Whether he keeps that voice in Smash 4 or not doesn't matter much to me. He wasn't exactly a young lad in FE9... When you're seventeen or so, you tend to have your adult voice already. FE10 is something like three years later, I think. Realistically, his voice shouldn't be much different.

Haha, even though Ike looks much closer to thirty years old in Radiant Dawn... in Smash 4, he actually looks more youthful.

I really do hope they rethink the "no sympathy" line, though. I think the only time Ike ever said that was to the evil fat guy who enslaved Reyson.

I suppose the tone is a bit different. I am having a hard time trying to articulate what exactly is dfifferent about it. Its just seems like the FE9 choice gives me the feeling of a person who is not very experienced. While the FE10 voice simply sounds more confident/experienced in life. Not really much difference in deep voice or not.

imo extra bulk is a bit weird on a person. I prefer the fe9 character model. But, fe10 is newer and it sees fit to give Ike a newer look. At least something if the Usmash, counter, taunt, and normal standing animations do not seem to change ;p

Radiant Dawn,Path of Radiance and SSBB...Ike had the same voice actor.

It does seem to be the same voice in both games, but I suppose I do hear more confidence in Ike in FE10, yes.

Ike sounds fairly confident in Brawl, though, except when he gets KO'd :p

lol

I doubt they will be able to get the same voice again for the character, but I might be surprised. At least, judging from how Peach has had what feels like a million voices for each new game she gets put inside.

Ike quotes in SSBB are quite memorable, doubt they will change the VA... infact both VA (***/eng) seem to be Ike exclusive they dont have any other role beside him and their first appearance was with Ike.

Wasn't Urvan a handicap weapon? Mind you, I'm basing this solely off of PoR where it took Ike nearly the whole game to be ready to show the Black Knight what Greil could have done if he still had his "sword arm".

Yes, RD exists but it did so much backwards from PoR that I'm just going to continue to ignore it anyways.

You know, considering the way Ike swings his sword...

You might as well change it with an Axe and it wouldn't be different.

Man Sakurai is such a tease. He knows everybody wants some man candy in these updates and instead he's giving us pictures full of hot air.

Oh err sorry, been a while since I've had the chance to play so may be remembering wrong / need to elaborate.

However, I'm fairly certain there was a repeated point on Greil's Urvan not being his proper weapon and that he only lost to the Black Knight because he cut the tendons in his sword arm. Ike even explains this to he Black Knight and insists when Ike is criticized for being so stubborn on staying true to the style he learned from his father against his father's killer.

So from that point of view, it's a downgrade for Ike to be using an axe instead of the "sword arm" that was so heavily exalted in PoR.

The RD point of view would lead towards the conclusion that using the strongest weapon in the game is desirable. However, RD insisted on turning most of the things considered fact and turning them around for the sake of plot twist which was why I was saying I'm ignoring that perspective.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that my favorite Ike taunt was the "Prepare yourself," one. I really want that one to return. Aside from that, I loved all of his taunts already, but I'd be happy with them adding more voice acting to his actions/taunts.

I'm very certain it would be kept. After all, it did originate from his appearance in Radiant Dawn, which is what his redesign in SSB4 is based off of. ^-^

It would be pretty cool if Ike drops into battle onto his head as his stage entrance, kind of like his Critical Animation from RD.

Landing on your head, bouncing onto your feet, and acting like nothing happened just exudes badassidry.

I'd rather use that as a tech animation.

I think the most probable is the Tower of Gudiance with the Black Knight/Ashera as a boss/stage hazard, also the Great Bridge has a good chance with holes that function like the pitfall item in brawl and maybe some ballistas.

But what about a Serenes Forest stage? I hope this doesn't sound like the Reset Bomb stage but picture this, you are figthing in the forest and then a fire rises changing the stage and hurting characters that touch the fire, then Reyson/Leanne/Rafiel sing the song of revival (I don't remember if that's the name of the song, sorry) and the forest rebirths with a different pattern.

I'm an Ike main in Brawl and PM, but I thought he was gonna get cut for Chrom (especially since the Awakening fanboys are going crazy over him.)

Definitely feels great to have him around for another Smash Bros!

I was skeptical of his return.....I really wasn't quite sure he would come back.

But Lyn gave me hope, and now here he is. Welcome back, old friend.

I like what I'm hearing here. The Tower of Guidance seems like a great idea, as does Serenes Forest (@ Vickand Vickand ). I would be happy with either option.

I had an idea back in January:

Nox Castle would be good (I think that's what it's called), where you control Daein forces trying to hold the line against the Greil Mercenaries. It was home to a fairly epic battle involving a ton of Laguz and Daein soldiers. It could be a large level where the two sides of the armies come and randomly fight each other, potentially catching smashers in the crossfire. (Edward, Leonardo, Micaiah, Nolan, Sothe and some other members of the Dawn Brigade could make appearances and attack the Greil Mercenaries (Soren, Mia, Shinon, Ranulf, Mist, some Laguz and maybe some others). Then to make it even more epic, the Dragon Laguz can show up and destroy part of the castle like they do at the end of the level.

This does make sense to me.

Even so, Zelgius is a dastard. He murdered Greil out of pure vanity. Even though it speaks volumes to Ike's abilities to best him with Ragnell, is it not that much MORE impressive to best him with his father's "handicapped" weapon? Especially if you consider that it's sword vs. ax. I think that's kinda the way Lordling and I feel about it. Ike's sword style kind of possesses elements of ax-fighting in it, probably due to the fact that Greil AND Titania helped to train him, and both of them used axes by the time Ike came along.

Yeah, that's fair.

Also, I always felt like Ike dual with the Black Knight (at least in PoR) wasn't so much about proving himself as much as proving to the Black Knight that Greil never would have really lost to him if he didn't cut his tendons.

I think having this poll in the Ike forum probably accounts for the lopsided results. I mean, it could very well be that the majority of people felt like Ike was likely to return, but the more vocal opinion right up until Ike's reveal was that Chrom had snatched Ike's place.

Appearances can be deceiving, I suppose.

I was worried that Ike might not come back early on, like, last year, when we first saw Smash 4. But when Sakurai made the comment that, "no characters are cut yet," I felt like Ike's return to Smash was set. I really didn't doubt it at that point.

I was one of those who couldn't make up their mind when it came up to Ike. I wanted him to return badly and thought he had the merits too. Popularity, unique moveset, but we all saw what happened to Mewtwo.

But I'm glad to see him back.

So does anyone else here like Ike, or am I alone on this?
Ike is eh cool guy. He fights for his friends and doesn't afraid of social norms. He learned fencing from an ax-wielder. Ike is uncommon and that's okay with me.

He's a pretty upstanding fella. I remember when he was revealed for Brawl and everyone was slandering him. Now that they have had a taste, they can't imagine Smash Bros without him.

Funny how people work.

Wolf is in much the same boat, I feel. I liked Wolf waaaaaay more than Falco, and yet Wolf is one of the first characters people wanted cut, right up there with Ike. I can't wait for Wolf to come back. Dude had a sweet voice actor, too. what's the matter, scared?

I know some people complain about Ike in FFA matches, due to his boss-tier smash attacks. But you know, in the Pokemon community, we have a saying: GIT GUD. People who complain about Ike being OP just need to git gud.

I only wish he'd be in the Best Buy demo, but my hopes for that happening are not high. Maybe Sakurai will toss us a bone and give us ONE POTD this week discussing some of Ike's finer points. Come on, Sakurai, please?

I was fanboying hard when he was revealed for Brawl, but I'd also already played through PoR and RD like 5-7 times each. I have a problem when it comes to Fire Emblem games.

Considering the amount of things Pokemon bans to make the game skill-based I don't think it should be used as an example of GITTING GUD.
I'm not saying Pokemon is a skill-based game, or not. I'm just saying that it's the mantra in the Pokemon community... Stating a fact for the intent of being kitschy.

It's a catchy saying, is all.

It is catchy, however, the Pokemon community is a lot more…elitist than the Smash Bros. community.

Hmm, yeah, I suppose so. I've never gone to a national Smash tournament, so I have nothing to compare it with.

I mean, both games have scrubs, the fanatics, casuals... the whole "git gud" thing is a sarcastic remark, yes, but that doesn't make it untrue. If you're not about improving and stepping up your game, then you fall into the casual bin, usually. I just think it's silly to complain about Ike's up smash when he is such a punishable character with almost no non-jab combos.

I only brought up the whole "casuals hate facing Ike" thing because a lot of videos and podcasts I saw lately mentioned that. I honestly have no clue if it's true or not. Regardless, it's not important... unless Sakurai nerfed Ike ;_;

Don't know what SmashBoards or Fire Emblem communities were like, but that's what I got from the other online communities I was on.

Edit - Oh, also a lot of "Who the **** is Ike" IRL, too.
