It sounds like you have to get killed alot to get the pity final smash, so in a tournament match where each player get 5 stock, maybe a pity smash wont show up at all.

According to todays update you can punch the Smash Ball out of someone who is carrying it. Couldn't you technically take the ball from the person who receives the pity?
Also it mentions you can turn off Smash Balls completely, though nothing about just getting rid of the pity.

Yea, since we know Smash Balls can be turned off, should'nt some people be eating crow already?

I think is good for newbies.

What i mean?

The one who is losing has an oportunity to unbalance the game.

Oh, crap, is a ****ing ATTACK, i don't see why it's so bad :S

Even if we can't turn off the pity smash, what if we can set the difference required to get it? Tourney's can set it to 20 or something so it does ****. while less compeditive people can leave it at 3-4. Regardless

"It's OK to give this out right?"

The scared tourny types piss me off.

"Final Destination. Fox ONLY."

Take a chance, people. I wonder if the debate will get so big that there are tournaments with and without FS? (doubt it) My God, it could be Smash civil war.

Wherever I am right now.
If FS's were allowed in competitive play, and someone is losing by 3+ stock, I don't see why the loser should be playing competitively at all. When it comes to hardcore players fighting fellow hardcore players, the matches are more often than not 1 or 2 stocks difference, meaning pity FS's will hardly occur.

Not only that, but the Smash Ball can be turned off.

Sakurai is giving plenty of options that allow the game to be played by a very wide audience. Stop worrying over the possibility of a younger sibling or worse player killing your ego once in a blue moon.

My two cents.

No. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .I want a game that has the depth of Melee at least. It doesn't matter how easy it is to pick up at the beginning. Plus, with advance techs, did you think Melee was hard to pick up? I will answer for you. No

And Nintendo doesn't always know what they are doing. I have to admit they are probably the most consitent videogames designers in the business, but they still make mistakes.

Edit: LOL, does it make you feel lame to make such pretentious, sweeping remarks about an entire community?
you are right, they do make mistakes, they didn't see the glitch that let wavedashing into melee.
you all seem to forget, even if the mistake made the game more fun and competitive for you, "advanced techniques" boil down to "exploiting glitches" for the most part.

is that a bad thing? i don't know, but you shouldn't be so surprised they are taking the glitches out.

perhaps what you see smash as is not what Sakuri sees smash as.

They'll obviously be an option to turn it off. Sakurai's not stupid. He knows some people like to play without any gimmicks.

Also, I like it. Coupled with the new handicap system, playing bad players will be way more fun.

I think a "Pity Final Smash" if not able to turn off, will be the reason Final Smashes won't be allowed in tournament play. FS's had the potential to be usable, but not anymore.
QFT, a lot of people don't know what they are talking about, you could be getting 3 Stocked, and still be amazing, and still come back, the FS could be just too much. And for the people saying "most" aren't so bad, some are... Bowser.

Just to demonstrate how much every stock counts, here's the biggest combecak ever:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lIcE_-tWv8

EK 4 Stock @~155%

Nihonjin 1 Stock @ 63%

Nihonjin wins.
Exactly, this is why the pity FS is stupid, and won't be allowed.

What are the odds of that happening though?

@Witchking
It doesn't matter, it happened, and it's happened more than once, and when 10,000 bucks is running on a match, the "it almost never happens" card isn't going to cut it.

Casual gamers who don't devote their lives to becoming 1337 have no right to enjoy this game and have some fun of their own.
Why do you assume that just because people are good at the game that we devote our lives to the game? Most professionals don't play a lot, not even daily, and they would own me. Time isn't even what skill mainly about.

As lame as Sakurai can be, and because he thinks that competitive play is wrong he could just make the Pity FS unobtainable (is that a word?) from other players.

But they will sometimes occur, which is bad.

Sakurai is pretty stupid considering that the online is embarrassing, and Spectator mode was a joke, not to mention that money says in one player mode (classic) we won't be able to turn items off. Sakurai can be really stupid.

Why would you want to turn items off in 1p mode? What are you trying to prove there? That you can beat a computer without items? Use them to your advantage.

I could ask someone why they'd want to play against a level 1 computer with only bombs and pokeballs? And the computers in 1 player mode do stupid stuff with items, they detect them before they are even visible, which isn't fair.

But the computer is terrible no matter what level it's set to. What's the difference? 1p mode is for screwing around. Plus, you wouldn't be able to get all the bonuses if the items were off.

if the person who recieves the final smash is losing by the 3 points(or how ever much it is) will it really change the outcome that much, i mean sure it should help but it isn't a guaranteed kill let alone damage

I dont see what the huge deal is. If some one sucks so bad that they get a pity Final Smash just beat the smash ball that must be in there somewhere out of them and take it for your self.

But it's not always because someone sucks. Sometimes nothing goes your way in a match. The pity smash could be the momentum needed for a massive comeback. You people need to see some comebacks in fighting games.

very true, and in the video someone posted earlier, smaus died before using her pity smash, so its not like the people are going to know what they are doing if they are that far behind.

I have seen some. Made a few myself. I think that you would have to be very far behind to get a pity Final Smash. Like so far behind that the PFS is just to make you feel better. And anyway its not like a final smash is a one hit KO and its not like their undogeable.

First of all, speak English.

Second, it's just hilarious how he killed himself before he could use his pity FS.

there's nothing wrong with the online play and if you don't like pity smash turn smash balls off.
There's no ranking system, plus you don't even know who your playing against unless it's your friend, this means if you have a really good match with someone, you you can't even exchange FC's. That's terrible. And I will play without FS's (if the pity smash can't be turned off).

But the computer is terrible no matter what level it's set to. What's the difference? 1p mode is for screwing around. Plus, you wouldn't be able to get all the bonuses if the items were off.
You can never get all the bonuses. But I should be able to beat up on Giant Kirby without items if I want to.

if the person who recieves the final smash is losing by the 3 points(or how ever much it is) will it really change the outcome that much, i mean sure it should help but it isn't a guaranteed kill let alone damage
Phailure for not reading the entire thread.

You just don't have the Smash Balls to play with pity FS's

:p
I don't get what your saying, I think your saying "just turn off the pity final smash". The thing is, we don't know if that's an option yet.

QFT! We already posted a video but no one is looking at it.

No, I think he's trying to be funny. He's saying, "You don't have the Smash balls to play with a Pity Smash."

It's a play on words, you see.

This might not even be something left in the final game. This forum is full of people pre-*****ing about stuff that hasn't even happened yet.

What do you expect in a game not made specifically for pro players...It is a party game after all

Besides, your complaining because they gave something to sucky players...

If they sucked that much...couldn't you defeat them anyway?
yeah it atleast gives them a fighting chance...well not really but if they didnt give them that then it would be just straight domination
