Man is a territorial and hierarchical creature. That's why countries, corporations, and other entities like them exist the way they do, and why they feel the need to compete with each other. We separate ourselves naturally into groups, and then we try to dominate the others. As long as man has no reason to unite into a single group, there will always be separation. It's this whole "I have to be better than that guy" mentality that breeds such profound greed in each of us. Do I even need to go into religion and how it unnecessarily divides people?
What a great world it would be if we didn't act that way. Unfortunately, humans aren't all that unified when it comes right down to it, whether it's our race, gender, religion, or whatever else, nor are we very loyal. Can you honestly say you wouldn't screw your friend over for a million dollars? How about a billion? How much money would it take to make you kill someone, honestly?
It's the same with countries. We gather together in groups of millions and try to outmatch the other groups, all in the grand pursuit of money and power. Oh, sure, we might say it's for something like Freedom or whatever, but honestly how often is that really the case? How many wars were started because one side thought they were better or they deserved something more than the other? We all like to think we're better than everyone else, that we're always right in an argument. That's humanity for you, and until we actually find a reason to unify together as a single race then I don't see us ending the fighting anytime soon.
