I need some sort of inspiration to make my Marth feel alive again. Videos inside.

Seriously, I feel lifeless. Steel says I'm too defensive. Then I whine to him about how my life is a piece of trash. Then he told me to suck it up and find another woman.

Wait. That's not how it worked out on MSN.

...

Anyway, Steel helped me out a little on these critiques, but I'd like to see you guys and your inputs on my Marth. Especially in getting me to play smarter, as well as advising me on what to do against Wolf.

Also, second Wolf battle is what happens when you experiment on how to punish Wolf's side-B and screw up. I know it's failure. Also, triangle jumping into ROB's Usmash = Failure on epic levels of "zOMG this isn't Melee son." Also, Dolphin Slashing the wrong way kills kittens.

Don't butter things up though, keep the critiques to-the-point. If you're going to mention the above(s) though, also recommend an option (mostly for Wolf, other stuff is just simply incurable WTFs, like herpes). >_>

An autobiography of my failure:

Wolf Match 1
Wolf Match 2
Wolf Match 3
ROB Match 1
ROB Match 2

Against wolf:
You were doing the right tactic. He can't get inside with a f-air d-tilt wall.

Learn to speed hug though there were a few times you could have gimped him by just hugging the edge and you didn't.

Your approach is one dimensional. Every time you do a f-air, you do another f-air right after. Same with grab, dancing blade, d-tilt, even shieldbreaker. Mix it up.

I would say n-air but not needed against wolf. Against rob it's good. Lvl 99 is really predictable you didn't really punish it except for a few counters.

Didn't watch the ROB matchup sorry.

Basically, mix it up.

VietGeek, well you're my favorite marth to watch. **** son, its ****ing sexy seeing your marth.

As Junk said. you played the wolf watches real well. I noticed that later of match 1... you're spacing started getting screwy and then in Match 2 most of it wasn't pretty.

Also you played without pressuring your opponent... you never when off stage. Marth has stellar off stage game. You should follow up with a fair just to gimp Wolf... Glad to see almost none Fsmashes (or none I didn't notice)

No bra, you're Marth is the sexiest

and Usmash to punish was a bad thing... since the spacing would probably give you a fricken tip... just he fooled you with HIS mindgames...

and to DI out of Dsmash what direction?

For the most part well played.

Stop using my color or I'll have to kill you btw.

Go off the stage more for edgeguarding.

Also, there were times when you just did things that put you in danger, like full jumping over Wolf when he was on the ground and other situations like that.

You never actually went for kills, you just continued zoning. Look for kills when your opponent is at kill percents.

Also be more aware of your positioning. Like alot of the time you were close to the edge and had your back to the end of the stage, which is risky.

Other then that your Marth looks solid.

All you gotta do is mix your zoning up, use dtilts and occasional nairs. Mix it with the first hit of the dancing blade, be less predictable. I know everyone has said this already but Im trying to make your Marth feel alive again too.;)

Oh and like Emblem Lord said go for kills, you let the opponent get back on the stage way too easily. You should stand near the ledge and bait a reaction and chase them. Grab or fair them back off and just keep doing it. Rolls get grabbed, ledge attacks above 100% get dolphin slashed.

You know what Viet? Im gonna use these videos to help my vs. ROB game. I saw that ROB fail a few times in the match but i got a good laugh out of it (starting his up+b that low was just begging to be spiked,i woulda went for a 2nd one actually just to multiply the pwnage). I may edit this with a few comments but i didnt see much wrong with ur marth. Take an epic nap or something, you have definetly earned it.

now i main fox,, HELP

btw VG, GRATS ON DI ON ROBS DSMASH XD x 3
Fox, really? Come to Waba. We shall make VietG better at fighting Fox. =O

Fox is some sort of spastic fool. Is your controller manly enough to handle him?

Also, you and Lv.99 should do Fox vs. Wolf for lulz. I'll bring my DVD Recorder and like 4 DVDs, just in case.

Lv.99 lives 3 minutes from me and we still get WTF lag. So no.

No, you're coming with Meta Marth this month to Waba. This will prove your worth as men. In Brawl.

Also, Roy dittos. Final Destination. Four stock. No items.

k. i liek to go to P n T tourney, hdtv lag? im using fox :D

ps. 5 dollars = cheap

waba = 15dollars bvll****
Dude, pay $5 and go do friendlies. $10 is for the pot, which the store doesn't get AT ALL. PnT offers a small fee because they offer store credit, not real cash. In the end, they profit MUCH MORE than they give. Plus, the TVs are gay.

I can't believe you'd go to those lame tournaments where the stores are too cheap to pull out some Wii component cables to use on their HDTVs instead of a place that's reputable and has helped the Georgia Smash community maintain a constant monthly.

So did I ever tell you how I feel about your playing?

It's very nice, I wish i had your spacing, it makes me jealous. You play a good defense. No complaints.

Your vids were why I hate brawl, lol. Do you ever do anything other than constantly use reatreating fairs? Obviously extremely effective, but boring as crap to actually watch, and considering the time I've put in with Marth boring to do as well. If you wanna have more fun, and your Marth feels as stale as it looks, why not actually try mixing it up a bit? Not to be rude or anything, but wow I've never seen someone spam like that who isn't named Overswarm.

To be fair, there's no reason to change anything up if the opponent can't deal with a single strategy. Mixing it up when you're not losing is rather stupid, unless you're just playing friendlies and want to experiment.

I completely agree. I said if he wants to have more fun he should try mixing it up a bit. I also said the retreating fairs were "obviously extremely effective". If competition becomes boring to the point it seems like work, then why play? We compete in a game to have fun don't we? He said he wanted his Marth to feel alive again, and that's all I meant by that.

Nice explanation. I was against u in ur first post but i change my mind now. When i play brawl i wanna win, but i also wanna have fun. Marth is flashy and its fun and somewhat effective to play him that way. Mix fun and win so your marth doesnt grow stale. And vary the opponents you play (both in skill and characters they use).

Since brawl is so laced with brokeness and fail in comparison to melee, you should at least have fun playing it.
This is why I second Toon Link. <_<

Nah, I'm working on getting some of my older aggressiveness back. But every week I continually seem to be at a stagnant rate. I cannot improve with school in my way.

Also, Steel nags me about traps like every time we have a rather lengthy discussion. The sad part is that the juggling trap I absolutely suck and fail at and I can't seem to get it.

It's MUCH less than 35% Backlash, lol.

Viet, stop linking me to vids saying you suck, and then utterly destroying your opponent. I just finished the first vid, and now I don't even want to watch the rest, lol.

EDIT: Watched the rest. You only lost that ONE match against Wolf because you got experimental/started sandbagging.

Tip: try using a single Dancing Blade on Wolf before he recovers, while he's in Midair. Unlike Fair, he really can't DI up, and drops to a really horrible position. Less damage, MUCH better positioning.
