How would you feel if they made Link talk?

Link has never spoken a word except yelling and screaming, in ANY Zelda game.

Now his flaw became his trademark. Birds fly. Fish swim. Link doesn't talk.

I think that they can't do it. It's basicly his trademark and they should leave it that way.

What do u think?

Oh btw, they did make him talk(like an actual man) in Zelda CDI games but that doesn't count right?

My opinion is that...he should talk, only not too much because that would just ruin the whole franchise, he should talk like Mario only more, oh and I think if they already make him talk, it would be cool to have these text bubbles where he expressed his thoughts

Link should stay quite.
I would hate to hear a messed up link voice or chances of him saying stupid stuff.

Firstly, NO, THIS IS A FAKE, THIS IS NOT REAL. It is, however, a great read, an interesting concept (a pre-wind-waker-flood, steampunk hyrule spiralling into darkness under the evil wizard Ganon, and a new hero rising to fight him under the false mantle of hero of time who ultimately fails) and it got me thinking; Link is really boring.

I'd love to give Link a voice. For some reason I invision him speaking japanese, but that's not the point. The point is, I think the next zelda game needs to go somewhere different story wise to hold my attention. Something out of left field, like Majora's Mask. Either that or give the game some dialogue and a gripping story.

Sure, it's blasphemy, but who cares? It's the internet.

I've always thought Link to be a boring character, and while originally he was meant to be defined by the player(in games like Link to the Past), over time, he's just been a bland, silent, lifeless hero. Were he to be given a personality, then I might think the Zelda series is good.

Like i said before Link should Stay Quiet.

EXCEPT

At the end of Twilight Princess there was a chance for link to say something
The word should be GOOD BYE. Maybe in the next Zelda game link Partner goes away and link says Good Bye, would be okay.

Link should stay quiet. It would ruin the whole silent protagonist image.

Besides, we don't want to here LInk talk about how he wants to bomb some dodongos or how hungry he is.

Also, there's a Zelda thread. Search next time.

Hey, I know there's a Zelda thread, but if I have something that deserves to be seen by other ppl, other than 10 or 20 who see my post, can't I post on Zelda games outside that thread? guys cut me some slack.

Oh btw some ppl say that he talked something in Wind Waker is tht true?

If Link's voice doesn't suck, I'll be okay with it. The apocalypse didn't occur when Zero Suit Samus spoke in Brawl.

Red the pokemon trainer? I think it's too late for that.

"Way to go Charizard!"
"You did it Charizard!"
"Keep going Charizard!"
Well, every other Pokemon Trainer stays quiet, at least... Well, if you're the protagonist.

No.

Does that answer the thread's question?

I kinda wish Samus had remained silent...I loved Fusion, but it would've been great if she hadn't talked. Silent protagonists = win. And it would've been nice if we hadn't HEARD her speak. Thanks, Brawl...

well first of all, it doesn't really matter if Link talks or not since I've never played an actull Zelda game, so I wouldn't know.

as for Pokemon Trainer, he should just stay quiet!

also, Pit's voice is annoying.

In Wind Waker, he could talk, when the part on the Temple of Godness (or something), calling for the statues, he'll say "Come on!".

Silent protagonists are lifeless, dull, and devoid of personality(case in point: Link, Mario). How is that "win?"

Well, I can't disagree on Link and Mario being kind of devoid of personality -- especially Mario, which is why I've never liked him...never seen a reason to *puts up fireball shield*. But that's Nintendo's fault. You can give a character a personality without having them talk. Give them a bio, do a background story, show how they act via cutscenes...

In any case, when a protagonist is silent, they feel more epic. They feel like special characters, whereas ones that speak don't feel so epic. They feel normal.

To be honest Link is one of those guys who you can tell alot by their Actions. Samus on the other hand isn't... I think her talking is a great idea.

Didn't the pokemon trainer of Red/Blue say something to the copycat in Saffron City?

As for Samus: She's been "talking" since Super Metroid, so I don't really have a problem with her having an actual voice.

OK, to be fair, here's a list of characters and why Nintendo decided not to have them talk:

Mario (and to an extent, Luigi and Wario). When Nintendo found the voice actor who will be voicing Nintendo's mascot, there was one problem, he didn't speak any Italian, only an Italian accent. To avoid problems with this, Mario was kept to a few lines. Luigi and Wario are also voiced by said person.
Peach and Bowser have spoken before
DK and Diddy have (somewhat Ironically) spoken before, just not with actual voices)
Link: to avoid any contradictions with the player's view of his personality, so he is kept to grunts and all. For some reason, Characters do not have audio voices when speaking.
Samus: She has, even in story (Metroid Fusion). However, She, Like the Characters of LoZ, does not orally speak. In fact, nobody had audio lines until Corruption.
Pit: old
IC: old
ROB: old Robot
Kirby: unknown, although it could be because Kirby is mostly mute. This does explain a lot, as Sakurai was adamant that Kirby didn't speak in the anime as well.
Meta Knight: He has
Dedede: he has, he just doesn't do so in Brawl because Sakurai voices him.
Olimar: he has
Anybody from StarFox: They have
C. Falcon: he has
Pikachu: like most Pokemon, he can only speak syllables of it's own name.
Pokemon Trainer: In game, the only time the trainer actually spoke was during Pokemon Changes (like in Brawl). This has been represented in Brawl
Lucario: Same one as in movie?
Jigglypuff: see Pikachu
Marth: he does speak, it's just in Japanese
Ike: He does
Ness & Lucas: I can't say for sure, I never really seen either game.
G&W: game console
Snake and Sonic have spoken before.

It would feel kinda weird for a number of reasons. And them being:

-The player would relate less to Link than as if he was silent.

-The fact that the chances of him saying something stupid (and perhaps funny (EX: Well (Hey,) excuse me, Princess)) would be high.

-The voice wouldn't fit him. (Unless he was like that sissy CDI Link, which doesn't count for anything.

-Link has been made a silent character for years, and to make him speek full sentences so suddenly, even in text, would just be flat out odd.

Anyway,
If they are ever to make Link speek, then they should start slow with a few words, then add a little more words in the next game. But in my opinion, he should stay silent, and talk to people without the actual text shown, like he already does.

If they did have him talk it should be after the games credits and he should say "Thanks for playing" in a deep black guy voice
