How viable is air camping on platforms vs snake?

Honestly if an individual just hops up and down from platform to platform on say... delfino, or battlefield when they have a lead, is this a good tactic? I want to know his options.

They can't jump very high with Gernades though. If I playform camp high, what can they do then? Motor is predictable and doge able.

It's a pretty viable tactic for characters like MK and Wario, Wario especially, but most other characters aren't going to have as much success doing it. Snake can mortar underneath, this is slow and can be avoided, if you're close and see the animation out you can drop on him and attack before the shell comes out. Snake can rig the platforms you're not on with C4, mines, nades, and attempt to chase you towards them, but for highly mobile air characters that can stall this is frequently ineffective. He can cook nades and throw them at you, if you have a good feel for how long they take to go off this isn't that threatening while air camping. His aerials in general aren't likely to be a problem, you can see uair or bair coming from a mile away and shouldn't hit if you space right, fair should never hit, nair is the most threatening but some characters like MK or Marth can attack him in between the kicks or others like Wario can SDI out. Air camping works pretty well but not so much just up and down, you want to stay mobile while doing it, circling the platforms in different ways and staying out of his immediate range but getting close enough to drop in and punish whenever he leaves himself open. As said, it helps if you have insane mobility(wario), or a million jumps and different options for landing(MK), not sure who else can really do it...

I think in theory it can be thwarted. It would require amazing timing with grenades, mortars and C4 control, and if given enough time, tripmines as well. But that's not impossible to beat. The entire time he was just recklessly throwing nades, blowing himself up, putting himself in bad positions and what not just to get some damage. If he lost the lead that early he should have just calmed down, instead of barreling full force into this guy.

That being said. If you make one mistake, you get hit. But that's if you make a mistake. <_<

(Dao avoided me for about a minute before I said "**** this" and rushed him. Needless to say, I lost to Dao 2-0 that set. I then beat him the next set we played. 3-1)

whenever i play someone who likes to use plats i like to plant c4's so that it forces them to use certain plats. if i get the chance i plant a proximity too.

platform camping will only be as effective as you let it be. ur opponent will have to land eventually. you have a c4, grenade, and most importantly a mortar. from there just predict where your opponent will go and use your uair/bair. we have the tools to get platform campers.

but, this isnt to say that it wont happen or hasnt happened. lol. and if it does happen then they must be good at using the plats and preditcing.

Well we gotta camp, cause snake is gay. frame 1 or 2 for your grenades, uptilt killing ridiculously early with gay range, ftilt doing 23% and frame 3 (i think?) and gay range as well. Snake is annoying!

I think Air camping is actually VERY viable against Snake.

Back in April I 2 stocked, then 3 stocked Lambchops snake on BF then SV by aircampinng him. I basically threatened him with a time out, which forced him to approach. If you just get used to their nade patterns there isn't much they can do, especially on SV.

HRNUT had a similar problem vs. Chaz's Metaknight in a more recent tournament. Snake has options to fight it, but he can't REALLY force MK to approach in this way unless he's ahead by percent.

There is a slight difference.

One is trying to avoid all conflict and being a **** (EG: SHDL to IAP the entire match), which is extremely easy to beat. (Albeit annoying)

Playing defensively is at least mixing up your options, and not just trying to out-maneuvar and avoid me (camping)

Well camping in brawl isn't out maneuvaring and avoiding. Good campers mix up their options, otherwise it would be predictable and wouldn't work. So essentially, just running away isn't camping, it's running away. Camping is forcing your opponent to approach and punishing accordingly.

One is a player doing it wrong/bad

One is a player doing it right/good.

Both of those things are camping lol....They are the same thing, its not as deep as you think it is, or want it to be.

Camping is a form of running away. Running away is the beginning of camping, and happens at some point in camping. The result is your opponent approaching. It is a mixture of attempting to keep your opponent away, forcing them to approach, WHILE mixing up your defensive options to either stay away or punish their approach. Its not just one of them, its all of them...

1 day you people wil play REAL fighting games and maybe understand.

while it's true that every character has to play safe, I'd say that certain characters don't really feel like it's camping, characters like marth and sheik are still fun to me, although I do better with MK and Snake where I just straight up camp <_< there are a lot of oversights in brawl(IC's, MK, DDD, Snake, Falco, Ness, Lucas, Ganondorf, PT, and more are all examples of horrid character design, the ledge is stupid...), but I don't really think it's that bad anymore

brawl is objectively worse than most of those games but I still prefer smash for the mobility, it would be amazing if brawl suddenly died and everyone gave it up for melee though

Sf4 and BB, are just as mobile and GG is more mobile.
You only think its more mobile because you dont play the other games. Being mobile is more then just "moving fast" or "moving in a wide open area". In BB and GG, the screen is very large compared to the characters in it.

well I guess I can't argue with being fairly ignorant of those games, SF2 is the only traditional fighter I got into much and 90% of my fighting game experience is indeed melee. I'm interested in SF4 and I've heard great things about BB, but no PS3/xbox for a long time, too many other toys I need to buy =/ just from what I've seen(people link me to a lot of videos and I watched a lot of the evo livestream) SF4 looks like it constricts your freedom of movement a lot more than smash, however, obviously this can be a good thing too(look at what DMG does on brinstar...)

Your movement isnt constricted at all. Its very free, you just have to get use to the wakeup options and the corner. The corner is there to make you feel restricted, but as long as you arent in the corner your fine.

well im like...the king of camping so i should know this LOL
running away is not camping...running away is called....running away lol
camping is not appraoching...forcing your opponent to approach...thats not running away...its forcing your opponent to make the 1st move
and i have no idea why people are so against camping?? its in ALOT of games...yet in smash its looked down up greatly.....it could even be called "zoning" or "turtling" in other games......in almost all competive gaming camping is a legitimate strategy that happend to work really well

quit b1tching and step it up...if you dont like it, go play another game and stop complaining on the boards

munch munch??

Basically, the advantage to air camping is that it's hard to hit you. The disadvantage, is that by doing it, you've conformed to being the biggest ****ing ****** in the Smash community.

The choice is yours.

He probably won't care if it's for the rights to screw the rules.
In other words, I meant this.
