Omg, how many times i have to say that once you reach a certain level matchups matter a lot less than the decisions you take. It's player vs player, even if I don't use all the "tricks" I've got really solid fundamentals to back me up for basically everything. You can't just outwit me that easily because you use one small trick. I can adapt to what you do but ya I've noticed a trend that since I haven't played for a long time, a lot of players think Ganon is super *** now where they even think Mario is ahead of him now. They also think it's super easy to beat me now which I think is laughable because I haven't gone to a tournament since Apex. All I need to do is show up and show the light to these fools. And I also I always have close games however I mostly always win.. the one sweating isn't me, it's my opponent that cant handle the pressure.

Better look extra carefully next time. Damn doubters.
do you want to be the only ganondorf on top?

Dude, no one doubts that you're good at this game, lol. We've seen it. Just because someone challenges you doesn't mean they think you are over rated. Who is claiming the tier list has changed simply because you haven't been to any big tournaments lately? Do me a favor and slap them, lol. Also, I know I've been saying this for years but you should learn as many tricks as possible. You once told me wavedashing was dumb and unnecessary to hang with top players. 2 years later you were twice as fast and wrecking ****. Keep an open mind. Fundamentals provide a strong foundation but having a large bag of tricks is much more beneficial than you try to make it seem.

No worries I do keep an open mind. The only problem I have in my own region is that I don't have competition, no one really forces me to think very hard on a daily/weekly basis. I only see Bam or Lampadaires (Pkm) when they decide to go to a tournament where they think it's going to be an easy win which sucks for me as I cannot test all the good tricks I'm trying to develop and our tournaments are very few. Our weeklies are free and it's not very good motivation to continue playing because even after 8 years of playing, we still have the same top players =/. The only time I remembered feeling ecstatic playing smash was when Vwins visited Chester's place and I played him a bunch a week ago. My mind was racing the entire time and I had to try different tactics every few seconds it's nuts and it's super fun. The way I am seems like I get the most joy when I'm challenged just like a warrior in battle pretty much haha.

I've got the impression you were trying to say that I would lose for sure. Obviously I can't take that.

it's kind of funny how many people challenge kage though. people in upstate were talking about beating kage last year. and i hear similar things in new england fairly often. but i guess new england is more expected given the mdz - kage rivalry.

I just made an insurance claim through at&t. Refurbished s4 for $150 and they dropped me from the insurance plan for a year since I made more than one claim in a 12 month period. And this phone is quite buggy. It's such a scam, lol.

Hehe, it never ends seriously. When I re-read my posts, I'm not sure if I should be annoyed, honored or happy... lol. It's mostly bonus $ every time I go tournaments though.

No, I was simply saying that it would be a good set between the two of you. Answer my question, though. Do you want to be the only Ganondorf on top? Or would you want multiple Ganondorfs to be at your level?

If I want multiple Ganons at top level.. I can't really answer that because I can't really do the work for the player himself. All I can do is share my experience. If it so happens that there are more Ganons at that level then that's good I suppose.

You suppose? That's really all I was getting at. Having more Ganondorfs at the top is what we need.

It's very hard.. you really need all you can get if you want to stomp on top players. If you aren't solid enough Ganon can lose to 1 strategy only, very easily.. you cannot have holes in your play at all. I wonder if it's because the metagame is even harder now that Ganon is dropping off the list or if there isn't enough impact in results lately? A lot of people seem to think so.. =(

meta game is being crippled by all the new players that are just picking up fox because "20XX" is happening.

not enough new players are picking up the oddball characters and developing their meta, so theyre just falling off. its pretty sad.

Protip: Buy the phone with your credit card. Between the purchase date and 180 days, make a claim to the credit card company that you bought the warranty with the phone and they are refusing to give you a new phone/refund. 99% of the time, the credit card company will side with the buyer (obviously, because it's a smart business move) and you'll get your money back (insurance in case you really do break your phone this time).

I think, technically, that this is fraud of some sort, but F*CK THE PHONE COMPANIES. Every single ****ing time. Every ****ing time, JUUUUUUUUST after the warranty period runs out, my phone seems to develop some sort of bug. How convenient for them. So yea, I would have no problem doing this.

Anyway, rant aside... I'm really, really bad vs. peach. I just can't seem to nail down some of the **** that peaches do. And don't even get me started on sheik. I've legit lost to a SCRUB twice in tournament, it's embarassing. I made it out of pools, steamrolling foxes in my pool and into 4th round bracket at SMYM before I forfeited (I have no doubt in my mind that I could've made it much farther), and these scrub sheiks just sheik me. I think I just need to give up on ganon vs. sheik. Any character selection advice for the sheik matchup? I've heard IC's is good vs. sheik.

Renth, I'm not sure how you do it.

I picked up Fox because Fox is fun but then I decided **** 20XX so now I play w/e random character I feel like using at the time.

Mostly Falcon.

im not sure if they changed it in the states but in canada they changed the time of the warranty from 3 years to 2 years because of how phones start to deteriorate more early on now and that sets them up with more phone purchases.

IF ANYTHING IS FRAUD ITS THIS RIGHT HERE.

also, i had this really dope idea during class.

we should make a combo video that has all of our best combos, and just make it a mega combo video. maybe it'll get more people to play ganon.

I mean I can understand that.. who would want to go through the pain of a mid tier character unless you love the character? lol.

Dude, none of my coolest combos ever get recorded lol. It's a curse. I think the coolest one was a series of reads that ending up gimping samus from zero (which is very tough to do). Or maybe it was bair (bad di) to waveland bair into dtilt wf spike (thanks bizz).

I should record more often.

While I want to be able to boast, I think recording is a double edged sword. Sure, you get to analyze yourself. But people can also watch you and pick up your habits. When I finally have a breakout tournament, I'd like to remain under the radar for as long as possible. But at the same time I'd like to get at least one game recorded where I don't play like ass. It's all very frustrating.

Good, please learn and punish my habits so I can adapt and become a better player. If videos can make others learn me, to the point video analysis can defeat me. then I am a crappy player.

Adapt to the match my friend

You think so? I find that pretty hard to do myself. I can't really imagine non top player having the skills to properly analyse a video anyways... they will get overwhelmed when they actually play the game as theres no time to sort out what they possibly learned, haha.

i'm definitely not a top player, but it's my skills as a former ucf chess player that have allowed me to analyze videos with patience. see, in the chess world when you prepare for a tournament you often go over the opening lines you think your opponents will play and you study their games. i do the same with smash before i go to bigger tournaments and it's helped so far.

for example before nsa2 i knew dazwa was going to be in my pool. so i studied his games, prepared a strategy to counter what he was doing and held my own against him even though i was far worse. back to back 1 stocks...i was happy given it's sheik ganon and he was one of the best sheik mains in our region.

i'm actually surprised to hear you guys think it's that far fetched to utilize videos like this. i mean, i don't think they're really a huge game changer, but they can help just a little bit at the very least. we have all this public footage of just about any player worth ****. why not exploit it?

It's certainly not far-fetched to study your opponents. It's an extremely normal practice for when you go to nationals to go to youtube and judge the skill levels of who you will be playing against.

The secrets of SSBM :

1. Wait and Bait.
2. Adapt to them adapting to you - unpredictability is impossible, we all have habits.
3. Focus on their options, if they try to do option A in situation B every single time then you can easily expect it. Force the shield grab they tried to go for the last 2-3 times and evade or simply punish cause you know it's coming.

^ their options may have worked 2 times, thus putting it in their head it's a good idea to do again. Abuse this false security and become a top player

then couldn't you reason that the more videos of you available, the more of an advantage your opponent can get from studying you? of course you can always change tactics/adapt. but it seems to me when you play a character like ganon, the less your opponents know about you, the better considering how limited our options are already. hell, i even remember a few people here saying they didn't play as many friendlies with people at tournaments before the tournament started to keep their tricks hidden.

sorry if my former comment came forth as a challenge, because that really wasn't my intention. it would take me another year or two before i can compete with any of you guys.

Kages comment earlier summed up everything.

No low-mid level player will be able to study properly and even if they could, trying to put together what you've studied will likely falter in the pressure of an actual match.

The friendlies at tournament thing is something I said, I only play friendlies with close friends mostly because Ganondorf is fairly linear and the less they know about him the better - in this respect I agree with you, however I do not give it the strength you give it. Giving someone an opportunity to adapt to you in a low pressure atmosphere is a very powerful tool.

Real time exp is much more valuable than watching matches trying to put things together.

I can give you all the information on something in the world, without the experience this information is near-useless to you. So, I avoid giving people that experience unless they are someone I play with often and those players I already have downloaded from regularly playing anyway.

Also, I don't see your comments as a challenge. I just don't agree with them and this being an open forum where people can express their opinions i'm just simply returning the favor.

i think you're just misinterpreting how much strength i give "it", which i can understand based on my wording. i don't actually think it's like a huge factor or anything, just something to be considered.

This monday will be my 9 year anniversary of having a smashboards.com account.

I will stream melee almost all day this day, with friends and attempting to beat all star mode with no continues and zero hearts used.

Along with occasional other things, maybe some megaman X? Ocarina of time? who knows. September 8th, 9 years with competitive smash.
