Do you guys think that revealing the so-called "Leaky 3" at E3 would be a hype-killer?

I mean, think about it. Mii is pretty widely unsupported (and wouldn't cater at all to the E3 crowd) and nobody outside of a small minority cares about Pac-Man anymore. Little Mac is the only one of the three that has any sort of real following. Revealing one superstar and two stink-bombs when people are expecting the likes of Mewtwo, Ridley, K. Rool, etc. may cause significant backlash.

If Pac-Man and Mii are in this game, I don't think that they're E3 reveal material. I think the E3 period should be used to reveal big-name, highly-requested newcomers like Mac, Ridley, and Mewtwo rather than just whoever Sakurai had laying around.

I share your views, Wario, but not everyone else does. Pac-Man and Mii have more than enough semblance and fans to warrant a ton of hype. Plus anything at E3 at all will be coated with hype. Remember the E3 where they revealed/said nothing but "We're making a new Smash Bros." a few years ago?

This is true. I suppose it doesn't really matter who they reveal at E3, it's going to be big.

I think any character will create hype if revealed in a right way in a right location and time. E3 is a perfect place for reveals and basically anything that goes on there will create hype, so I don't personally see anything as "E3-material". We got WFT last time who definitely wouldn't be categorized as such by some people, maybe Villager as well. Mega Man may have been the only big name to be "worthy" for an E3 reveal in some peoples' eyes.
I think the "leaky three" would create as much hype as anything else if they were to be shown at E3. Little Mac has support and is wanted, Pac Man is iconic and also has support - Mii may be the odd one out but the wackiness and unpredictability of it (as in not much support) may become a huge hit like with WFT. It's just the fact that the leaky three have been "leaked" for us that makes us not think about them as exciting, or "E3-worthy", anymore.

The other thing to consider about E3 reveals is that E3 reveals other games, too, you know. For example, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the new Metroid we've been subtly teased with for a little bit gets revealed E3 2014, followed by a trailer reveal of Ridley in Smash Bros. to absolutely solidify the Metroid hype and drive better sales of the Metroid game in addition to Smash Bros.'s own hype. This could apply to anyone and any game, meaning that as long as they have a game revealed before their inclusion in Smash Bros. is revealed, even shoddy characters like Pac-Man and Mii will definitely garner hype.

So basically, E3 is going to be Sakurai's anything-goes up to eleven.

If we get Smash news in this Direct, then we better get Diddy Kong in tomorrow's Pic of the Day. Revealing him in a Nintendo Direct would be rather wasteful.
I'm unsure if this is a local Direct or a Worldwide Direct hosted by Iwata. If it's the latter, then Smash news is possible.

We've only ever had Luigi and Sonic revealed in Nintendo Directs. Luigi for being the Year of Luigi, and Sonic because 3rd-parties will always draw in hype regardless of veteranship. If Diddy is revealed during the Direct, it would be a first time that a non-year-focused, non-third-party character would be revealed in one. If anything, hopefully this is when Palutena will be revealed on part of her leak a while back.

So I'm predicting Diddy if it's a veteran or Palutena if it's a newcomer, depending on whether they stick to tradition for Nintendo Directs or use it to promote Tropical Freeze.

Yeah, it's true that this would be unprecedented, but this is also the first time we've seen an incredibly likely character reveal fall on the same day as a Direct. Not to mention that we're getting closer and closer to the release of the game (whenever that is), so they do kind of need to pick up the pace a little if they want to have at least most of the characters revealed before the release. Anything is possible really, but it would be for the best that we don't expect too much out of this.

Maybe they'll make an official announcement in regards to Tropical Freeze if that is the case. Last minute reveal type of thing. Not that I think it's likely that King K. Rool is in Tropical Freeze...

Though if the latter is true, that also means they can show off K. Rool in Smash without actually spoiling anything. Assuming he gets into Smash... We can hope, at least.

Edit: You know, I like how all the threads for the more wanted characters are all thinking that maybe their character will be the one to debut tomorrow.

that's true; a nice thing in it's favor is that asides from E3 and conventions, directs are the best outlets of revealing a newcomer as long as nobody says it's mixed in with tropical freeze. It could even be "Maybe he's connected to it."

Yeah, my guess is that, if it's a newcomer we see tomorrow, it's more than likely going to be a DK one to coincide with Tropical Freeze, not to mention it's possible Diddy Kong will be revealed earlier that day. It seems like too perfect an opportunity to finish up the character line up of the series.

If we're getting a newcomer, I am predicting Little Mac or Palutena for some special news regarding Smash, Dixie Kong or King K. Rool for the Donkey Kong madness happening this month, or even Shulk if we get some X footage and he could get revealed to coincide with the trailer.

If we get Diddy Kong AND a newcomer tomorrow… that would be an amazing first.

I'm thinking that we will definitely get Diddy Kong.
I hope that we get a surprise newcomer. I am expecting either King K. Rool or Dixie Kong, but I'm hoping for Shulk.

Considering the timing, my guess is that we get no reveal in the daily screenshot and get a trailer in the Direct revealing both Diddy and Dixie. Diddy's reveal will be quick followed by a more formal one for Dixie, with the gameplay portion of the trailer emphasizing Dixie's similarities/differences to Diddy as they briefly battle other characters. Seems the best way to capitalize on it being both Tropical Freeze release day and a full Direct day.
