So I'm watching a livestream of RE6 and I see zombies PARACHUTING from a plane to fight Chris.

I give up.

Push for localization. Trust me. The whole gaming industry would be better off. Region Free Consoles will only get you less of the games you want lol.
This is so ridiculously optimistic. It almost hurts.

Sounds hilarious.
I imagine the zombies moaning and slowly flailing about in mid air as they descend.
Makes me laugh good. :paplejack:

Operation Rainfall is THE perfect example of gamers getting together to get a game localized.

Also, it's not optimistic. It's just..true.

Localization of games allows for a greater potential install base, and it allows new IPs to be brought over to other countries essentially exposing more people to a particular game and it's respective genre.

You don't get this with region free games, simply because only people who are already interested in the game are the only ones who will import ie pretty much the more dedicated crowd of gamers who know a lot more than the normal individual.

With Localized games, they'll be sitting in retail stores or sitting in their respective region's online console distribution store, in which they'll at least look over the game, even if for a second, essentially giving that game a chance to be bought. Interesting cover art, descriptions, familiar themes, vibrant colors, recognizable publishers and or developers are big parts of impulse buying, especially when it comes to digital distribution.

Region-free imports will rarely get these traits, if ever because of how inaccessible they are to the everyday joe.

Install bases are one of the most important things when it comes to new IPs. Always have been. And Localized games will always have far more potential at creating larger bases vs imported games.

It helps the game industry because if more games are localized, than consumer interest is easier to gauge, understand, and respond to. A perfect example of consumer interest directly affecting a company's choices is the 3DS itself. The massive buzz it garnered at revealed was the sole reason why it launched @ 250$.

It's not a matter of optimism, but a case of understanding the gaming industry, and just the world of gaming in general.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but XenoBlade sold a hell of a lot more over here than in Japan AND Europe. All because of it being localized. This tells Nintendo/monolith that we wanted this game even though nintendo said we didn't. Knowing this provides justification for Nintendo to release even more games over here( thus making more money) than planned.

Which is exactly why Localization is the way to go. With the massive amounts of sales in USA, this allows Nintendo to properly gauge the interest of the American user base ie "Wow. They bought so many copies of Xenoblade Chronicles. They like JRPGs. That means they'll buy other JRPGs that we put out."

This helps games like Last Story and Pandora's Tower get released over here.

Some games never get localized no matter how much fans want them.
If you can show a publisher enough interest, they'll localize it. But you're right as well. Sometimes, there isnt enough interest to justify the costs or a publisher is convinced it will not sell well in other locations, because of how niche it is.

Those are times, were the game being region free is acceptable, as then people can import the game, creating an install base. If the is high in quality and is deemed a good game by those who imported the game, then their word of mouth can spread to other people increasing the size of the fanbase, in which with the increased size, the fanbase can finally speak their desire for a localization with a stronger, more powerful voice. If said voice grows loud enough, then publishers will bite. No doubts about it.

Neko's blind faith in the gamer community is upsetting. :applejack:
There is no faith. I don't think a vast majority of the gamer community is capable of doing what i've talked about outside a few isolated incidents ie Operation Rainfall.

I'm not talking about blind faith. I'm talking game industry business from a publisher's and consumer's perspective.

Countless times gamers have rallied together for one reason or another.

"Dreamcast 2!"
"Shenmue 3!"
"Megaman in MVC3!"
"Bring Back MML3!"
"Petition Capcom for X reason!"
"Boycott EA for X reason"
"Bring over Tales Of [Insert Tales of Game that isnt localized]"
"Give us Final Fantasy X International!"
"Give us KH2: FM!"
"Give us DQMJ2:pro"
"Give us SSBB DLC!"

the list can go on for years and years and years. But very very little fruit has been had from every lackluster attempt by the fans because they give up within a few months, if even that. The gaming community lacks true drive and motivation to really impact the gaming industry on a regular basis. They lack the will power to stick to their guns and actually follow through on their actions. They dont convince enough people to give enough of a **** to not buy something or to send enough respectful letters. They lack organization. They lack leadership. They lack tact. They lack intellegence. And most importantly, they lack PASSION. Gamers can be some of the most laziest, disrespectful, hypocritical people who will easily gobble something up because it's something they're familiar with, and will never stick their necks out for something new. They don't give to ****s about the gaming industry or world until it impacts their personal favorite series, and it's disheartening. They dont bother to learn how ****ty the business practices of some developers and publishers can be, and sometimes, when they do, they shrug it off and take it up the *** just so they can play a rehash or release of their favorite game, but get mad when the series goes down the drain.

I wish success for each effort given, but I've never ever once thought that they'd succeed. Ever. And i will continue that train of thought until gamers actively start doing what they gotta do. But I doubt it'll happen. :V

I know you're ****ing with me, but I really love talking about this ****. It's my future.

That's pretty much the Catch-22 of this type of consumer. Video games are just a hobby for many of them. For this segment, they usually don't have any reason or incentive to look seriously at the market in the first place.

Which is why they gotta suck it up and at least pay attention to the corperations, the devs, and the publishers. At least those.

If they do that, and discuss with one and nother, we'd be better off.

Yea he has to cause Operation RainFall was THE largest(due to social media) attempt at getting games localized an it worked perfectly. We got 2 of the 3 games we wanted and they sold very well(which backs up our words). It shows we actually CARE.

We are not talking about the issue as a whole because it will never be solved(even neko admits this). But the XenoBlade/The Last Story example is the perfect way to go about TRYING to solve the issue.
