yeah it's so funny
it's why we were taken so lightly in melee
because everything here is done differently than in other big smash cities.
every rule has a twist
everyone spams
and all of houston talks lots of needless trash here in this thread

i like it lol

It's fine if Xyro does modify the rules, but there has to be discussion as to why changes have been made. Voting is fine, but you can already tell that most people here have a strong bias for/against some of the stages, even though they may have played the stage like once or twice or not at all. They're not approaching it from a gameplay perspective.

SBR knows what they are talking about, for the most part. Has anyone actually here actually tried playing ALL of the stages (including banned ones) to see why SBR recommended the stages they did? If you haven't, it's time you did.

SBR did NOT make a rule-set. What they've made is rule uh... guidelines, meant for you to skew in whichever way you feel fit. Xyro is letting us vote, it's very pleasent to know that he actually cares about what we think. SBR set a recommended list of rules. They weren't set in stone. They were meant to be changed.
then we should be able to vote on everything that he changes. it's only fair, and it would benefit the community better because it's what we want.

if it makes you happy i can explain my vote :D

pipes and onett are walk offs.
lucas relies heavily on tether recovery and gets owned by chaingrabs.
therefore pipes and onett lose.

PKMN stadium 2 is a level with some platforms (which lucas loves) and some interesting effects. Overall i think it's fun and should be a CP
(this was my less educated vote but i'd hate to vote ban for them all)

simple enough? :)

Pipes only has one side, and it's a slope. The slope can mess with Dedede's chaingrab. And even then, you'd have to be on the right side of the middle blocks to get chaingrabbed to the blastzone. It really is a good counterpick for characters that rely on vertical kills and against characters that are light or rely on horizontal kills *coughMeta-Knightcough*. You don't even have to worry about recovery on this stage, unless you fall down the middle and that's your own fault if you do. ;)

Onett...okay, unless you're just STANDING STILL on the sides of the house (which you shouldn't be anyways, since this is camping/stalling), you can't get chaingrabbed off the sides. Dedede can chaingrab infinite here, but we already have the rule that limits it. Plus, cars will interrupt it. And again, recovery here is not a problem. DI better. ;)

All of those faults Lucas has are unfortunate...but that's what you have to deal with when you select a character. Your main's weaknesses should not void a stage. It's called a counterpick for a reason. Learn the matchups better and overcome them. Or select a secondary. :)

Good call on PS2. Nothing about that stage can kill you, unless you're just unfamiliar with the stage.

i have no objections to playing on the stages if they indeed are picked (and chances are they will)
but looking at it from a machiavellian perspective
i know that my own personal playstyle uses a lot of tether mindgames.
and if it is voted on i will learn to play on it
(and probably should already know how for that matter)
but if it as advantageous to me to strike it
rather than just waste a ban on it
vote to not have it used?

it's a bit selfish lolz
but i'll take any advantage i can get

Well, geez, if SBR had that philosophy, then the votes would be all over the place. ;)

Heck, a lot of people would vote to BAN Lylat or Japes if they could, because they absolutely hate these stages.

Stages become Banned stages when it is agreed by a 2/3 majority in the SBR that they are not a fair or competitive stage at all, in that certain characters can easily have a near 100% win rate against others at top level play or that a large majority of the cast cannot actively be played on this stage, or that the stage simply requires such a radical change in gameplay that players cannot be reasonably expected to adapt (such as the Cave of Immortality in Hyrule Temple). Hazards can also cause a stage to be banned if they are random in nature and thus directly disrupting gameplay on a consistent basis, or if they are so powerful and/or unavoidable that they directly determine the outcome of a match on a consistent basis.
So for those who voted ban on PS2, care to explain your votes?

yeah probably

i can see where you're coming from, but that's the way i feel.

the SBR's objective is to better the nation's tournament scene and brawl in general

my objective is to better my placement :p

I moved lylat to CP cause 90% of tourney players ban it anyways.
With the stage striking system that should not be a reason why its moved to CP. Banning a stage is completely different...

Oh, and its kind of funny you say that but then tell everyone to man up about Kanto.

Im sorry tyle but pkmn 1 is perfectly fine. I personaly dont like the ledges but ill get over it.
lawl, you like taking people to Kanto, of course you'll get over it. Not that it matters, I agree with Kanto on the neutral set.

While I don't mind playing on Kanto, I'd like to point out that you can fall through the level while its shifting (I have video of this happening if you care to see). I'm fine with it on "neutral" as long as you actually put Lylat, which is more tame, back on.

Like its been brought up, just because you don't like a stage shouldn't effect its placement on the list.

Of course, I don't run the tournaments, this is just my opinion.

Ah yes, and as for all three of those stages (Kanto 2, Pipes, and Onett) CP.

You can fall through on that level? So that's already 3 levels I know of that that can happen in on brawl then :/ The first week the game came out I fell through the golden roof part of delphino with meta knight, and in a wifi tourny I feel through a part at the top of Rainbow Cruise with Fox.

(Brawl is too glitchy).

This is completly wrong. The guidelines were not ment to be changed. If they are changed, then it is not a SBR certified ruleset.

I would know, as I am in the backroom.

What are your credentials for deciding things like this? The SBR is full of Top players/TO's/Intellegent posters. The ENTIRE ruleset was discussed to voted on for months. We even had discussions for some rulings twice.

TO's are free to use whatever ruleset they want though. It is not forced. Just know that pretty much the entire nation will adopt a SBR certified as the standard. Houstons current ruleset is NOT supported by the back room.

But alas, to each thier own.

You can fall through the Warioware stage when it changes to a minigame. I've experienced it. :ohwell:

Maybe I can clarify the debate going on here.
When the SBR says their ruleset is flexible/a guideline
I believe they are referring to the many levels with stars
Correct Hylian?

Not meant to ban levels marked as starter/counterpick or levels that were listed definitively as counterpick.

if on castel seige you're talking about being below the edge and then the stage changing, that's understandable (it does that on sumit and wario ware), if you're talking about something else then I haven't seen it o.o
For Example...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toljm8NIS48
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab1eK8T1vKE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ggs3IzrjLY

There's also a very specific place it happens every time.

But regardless, the stages shouldn't be banned or even CP FOR that reason. I was just showing that all stages have issues, and claiming Kanto doesn't besides the edges but Lylat does is stupid. Taking a stage off because people don't like it is also stupid.

They will learn to adapt or strike it every time. That is their choice. How much do you honestly expect to see Kanto be the first stage played? VERY little. Almost all of the time it will boil down to FD, BF, and Smashville because the majority of players feel most comfortable there.

So why aren't those just the three stages? Because variety is the spice of life and there's no reason that Lylat, Kanto, and Yoshi's shouldn't also be on that list. Hell, even BF can mess up Marth's up + B to the point where he has to do it twice. Yeah, really great.

No stage is perfect. Bam. We get it. But unless you can prove the stage is broken, it isn't. Not liking it is a stupid reason. The only stage I would even discuss moving to banned is Mansion and that's only because of Plank stalling on it with meta... and stalling is a retardedly hard thing to ref well. Have a time limit? People are just going to push the limits, attack, and keep stalling. Don't have a time limit? Where do you draw the line?

Allan should just take the entire ruleset as is and actually try it out instead of letting unqualified players try to slant it in favor of themselves. That includes taking away all of the grab-bans. Ever go to a nice big tournament? Yeah, they aren't banned there. ICs aren't magically winning everything (so easy to CP) and character counterpicks exist for a reason. Shiek's insane CTs weren't banned in Melee, ICs throws weren't banned in melee, Marth's insane if done right 0-death on falco wasn't banned... Falco's chainthrow to spike isn't banned now.

I understand how insanely ******** grab release infinites are, butthey aren't going to destroy the metagame, instead it might actually encourage diversity and COUNTERPICKING.

Maybe I can clarify the debate going on here.

Allan changed more than just the stages (kanto 2 being banned, lol). Infinites aren't banned under SBR either, but Allan is banning those right now. The ENTIRE ruleset is to be taken. If it doesn't say something is banned, it isn't. Honestly I think the best thing to do is be as liberal as possible then trim down all of the "optional" stuff after its actually tested out in tournament. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. If people just aren't playing there, there is NO reason to ban it or move it. Someone out there will. If the stage itself is broken and someone is abusing it to the point of insanity, its time for a chat.

One last note...

Pokémon Stadium 1: 16-14-2*
Lylat Cruise 16-9-0*

Which one got the better vote for neutral? Lylat did.

wow those glitches are strange. I wonder if there should be a rule for if you get killed by a stage glitch that sends you in a stage, because it's not really the player's fault :/

Good post, Gea.

I vote we adopt the SBR rule set. Being able to slap the "SBR certified" label on our tournaments would be too sexy.

Also, shame on RT. Ignoring my IMs. How unsexy of you.

What? When have I have ignored you? You're lying. :(

Just like you lied to me about using Mario in tourneys. I practically wept myself to sleep the day after you broke your promise. :urg:

Because of you, I will never trust anyone ever again. Nice going.

For you guys that frequent our tourneys, what time do yall usually get there? I wanna get there the same time yall do so i can you know, make some friends, see the tourney set up process, play a few friendlies, get in your heads... <.< >.>

As for the 3 stages, i couldnt care less what theyre put on. I havnt played it enough to find out what the stages are/how theyre like and i dont have the game so i dont know how my characters fair on certain stages.

I understand completely now, thanks for clearing this up, piano, hylian, and gea. =]
No problem.

Texas needs to step up it's game. I've played the best from east coast. We don't compare very well. Both the East and West coasts have astounding players. Players that place in the 30s there could place top 10 in almost every tournament here. How can we even hope to compete when we don't even use the same rules?

Instead of hating and disputing with each other, why don't we try learning for a change?

I do! Let me make some cereal first though.

Also, if Houston would rather use the SBR certified ruleset, then speak up. Your top players like Sethlon and Stiltz want it. Others want it. If you really want it changed, post about it. Ask tgm in person about it. Let your thoughts be heard.

I am all for bettering the community. I will help in any way possibile.

TGM wants to protect you. Don't let him :). The best way to learn is experience something first-hand, and then adapt.

Ooh, cereal. I'm haven't had cereal in a long time. I'm going to steal some from your house. If it's not Cap'n Crunch or Lucky Charms, then you disappoint me. :(

And I back up the SBR certified ruleset, for what it's worth.

I think everyone should play on BF for every match.

I kid, I kid.

I am having a little trouble adjusting to some of the new stages, but I think adding them will be beneficial. Still don't like PS2. :(

Hmmm....I might try to go the fest on Thursday. I have some stuff to take care of in Houston, so it is a possibility.
