It's official, Smash has been confirmed for Evolution 2007. For those that don't know, Evolution or EVO is one of the largest and longest-running tournament series in the world. Tekken, Street Fighter, Marvel Vs Capcom 2...and now Smash. Rejoice.

The bad news? The EvoSouth qualifiers will take place in Austin during HOST2 weekend and entry is apprently free for the special occasion! I'm guessing tournament attendance in HOST2 will take a huge dive. Heck, I might want to go to Austin now.

EVO is the new MLG. I think it's important to show them a huge turnout.

EVO has no flexibility on their schedule. TGM, however, does have flexibility. People defer tournaments to later dates all the time.

Summary: EVO, the premier fighting game tournament authority in the world, is a huge boost to smash's credibility. It's critical that people show EVO that they made a good decision in adding smash to their lineup. How do we do this? We do this by giving the EVO qualifier a large turnout.

Guys, look closely at Evo's description of their Austin Tourney.

They say that registration for the game tournaments is free, but other registration fees may apply. They appear to be a part of the SXSW Festival which as you can see here: it aint cheap to get in.

So I'm guessing HOST2 won't be effected too much.


edit: actually it looks like you might be able to ignor the festival's prices since they say access to the arcade itself is free. The wording on that last paragraph was a little tricky, but I think it's just making note that if you want to attend anything else at the festival, you have to pay for it, but access to the tourneys is open to everyone.

Well, if possible I say HOST gets pushed back and we support EVO.

Hey guys. I would recommmend this tourney organizer get in touch w/ Mr Wizard on here and SRK. He's the tourney director of EVO. If pushing back is an option w/ you guys, then that's cool. Obviously, w/ Evo South's tie to SXSW, the dates can't be changed, but both of these are events are scheduled to be 2 days long... perhaps something can be worked out there.

Don't get all crazy, I'm sure options can be figured out. :-D More will be known in the coming days.

EVO is a dream come true for many players of the 2d and ssbm world. EVO is basicly another MLG. So i ask you guys for help.

Should I:

1. Push HOST2 to the weekend AFTER the EVO tourney
or
2.Push it off till ______________(<--you insert date here)
or
3. TGM combo the creator of EVO(basicly your picking option 1)

well i know that i will definitely be going to this (EVO) tournament, no way to pass this up. and since im the "austin bus" i will probably be taking chang, rayz, JF, ARC, or some other people. i also know that FLT will unfortunately not be going, since he is going skiing, but oh well, we will still have a good turnout from austin.
