We have obviously Arsene for Eiha spells
Jack Frost is the most likely candidate for Bufu spells
But what about Agi, Zio, Garu, Frei, Psio, and Kouha?
Here's my idea
  • Agi spells: Pyro Jack
  • Zio spells: Pixie (usually a healer, but she also gets zio spells)
  • Garu spells: Garuda
  • Frei spells: Titania
  • Psi spells: Forneus
  • Kouha spells: Metatron

But yeah, 8 Personas sounds like too much for Smash

It's really just that figuring out what could be Joker's Up-B is the most puzzling part about his moveset. There's more than enough material for theoretical Neutral, Side and Down Bs, but the Up-B is the most puzzling since it's meant to be the recovery move. Besides: Megaman has Rush in his Up-B, so why not? XD
It could be simple, invented just for smash, or it could be something inspired from the game, like a persona using garu (or another wind move).
Or one of the ideas that's been talked about. But yeah, there isn't much that immediately jumps out as working for a recovery.

I wouldn't be surprised if Joker's recovery was the stylish dive he made out of the stain glass window in the prologue, or any other one of his zany acrobatic feats. Other options include a Garu skill and Catbus Morgana pouncing in the air. An assist from Futaba seems cool, too, but I imagined her chiming in during one of his taunts, if anything.

My idea that I had a while ago is the 'teleporting' the Phantom Thieves do where they just becomes a blur.

You enter a state for a half second where you can dash 3 times at different angles. Kinda like Pikachu, Pichu and Greninja. But if you use it and it collides into an enemy, it grabs them and does a bit of damage a la "Show me your true form". The opponent stays in place, but it has set hitstun and you are left at advantage. Not enough to combo, but enough to start your offense. A tech chase situation, perhaps like Ganondorf

I think it's because that's the name of one of the servants in the Fate series.

See, the idea I had is that Joker would use 5 Personas (which is probably a little much): Arsene (his starter/main one), Jack Frost (the mascot), Pyro Jack (the other mascot), Pixie (usually the first demon/persona you get), and Alice (because why not)
Oh. Yeah, actually, it could very easily be that he's famous from Fate and therefore people like to see him in other things...

Also, I like your selection of 5. All top-notch choices.

If Joker really DOES get 8 Personas (likely to represent each element), who would they be if they aren't his friends' Personas?

We have obviously Arsene for Eiha spells
Jack Frost is the most likely candidate for Bufu spells
But what about Agi, Zio, Garu, Frei, Psio, and Kouha?
Well, that'd be an insane number of Persona. Sounds fun!

Eiha: Arsene
Bufu: Jack Frost
Agi: Cerberus (one of the most reoccuring MegaTen demons and one of the OGs from the novel)
Zio: Thor (reoccuring and important, plus generally famous on his own)
Garu: Matador (fairly common demon, generally unique design-wise and from a less-commonly-covered folklore)
Frei: Suzaku (appears semi-regularly)
Psio: Shiki-Ouji (fairly common demon, super-cool-looking deisgn)
Kouha: Anubis (reoccuring enough demon, plus generally known figure)

Bonus, if we're being insane, then let's go all the way...
Phys: Cu Chulainn (third most popular demon, from a unique mythos)
Almighty: Alice (second most popular demon, one of the most reoccuring demons)
Dia: Pixie (generally a secondary MegaTen mascot, given her playable status in Jack Bros and in Puzzles + Dragons' P5 crossover)

I think this list covers a variety of mythologies without including anything likely to offend someone (i.e., avoiding Abrahamic religions, as I imagine there would be some bad press if Nintendo let you summon satan in their party game).

If P5 Spirits are a thing: Who here is hoping they don't just limit it to the PTs, but also towards the Confidants and other characters? I can just imagine and theorize which character would be represented by which Smash character (though I don't know jack **** about making a Spirit battle). For instance:

- Sojiro as Dr. Mario/Snake
- Iwai as Snake
- Takemi as Dr. Mario
- Kawakami as Peach/Daisy/Isabelle
- Ohya as Bayonetta
- Shinya as Fox/Falco/Inkling Boy
- Hifumi as female Robin
- Mishima as Ness or a male Villager
- Yoshida as Dedede
- Shiho as Wii Fit Trainer

I can go on, but who would you imagine? XD

I can see Shinya as a Ness with Super Scope on Gamer.
Iwai is a perfect fit. The stage can even be Shadow Moses Island.
Sojiro's battle would probably include him protecting orange Inkling.
Kawakami's stage should be Living Room, with Daisy in her maid alt representing her.
Yoshida should be in Forside and avoid conflict.

Also while it's not happening, I'd love for Personas to get Spirit Battles, I want Alice to possess Isabelle.

Surprised this wasn’t posted, but Max Mittelman (Ryuji’s English voice actor) is having a bit of fun with the recent black hole news and Smash Bros speculation.

What a time to do this kind of joke...

Anyway, 19 days left until the madness ends.

Okay, so this point has been brought up in the E3 countdown thread:

I wouldn't be surprised if Joker was cancelled. Nintendo chose all of the DLC slots, meaning that they're using the DLC to advertize upcoming games of theirs. All characters will likely be first-party.
I'm not even sure what to say about this here. :drwtf: Thoughts?

.... what? What?
..... WHAT?!

To the person who wrote that: I am sorry, but are you out of your ******* mind? The circumstances for one to rationalize that Nintendo has the ability to cancel a DLC character that is well into development, set to be released in a few weeks, and has already been officially revealed, let alone a character from a popular series even if it may not be the most recognized within the general Nintendo fandom, is so absurd that I can't tell if the poster is absolutely dumb or trolling.

That would be amazing, though it's unlikely to happen... Can we get spirit battles for the persona and demons who are arguably copyright infringement--like the Balrog (the Middle-earth monster) and Christine (the car from the Stephen King novel)?

Lol. If not seeing gameplay about something for five months after initial announcements means it is cancelled, then a lot of games are also cancelled.

Part of me wants to see the thread where that comment was made, but part of me doesn't. Not to mention cancelling Joker now would cause quite the backlash amongst the public. If they really didn't want Joker: They should've either not have him on their list, or nip the negotiations in the bud before the Game Awards.

Link to this stupidity?

Fair enough.

It's too bad we don't have the Psycho Car enemy anymore, that would have been perfect for a spirit battle.

Umm... he has a model? He supposedly has a render? The stage we will get with Joker was datamined too?
I doubt any person on the development team would agree to scrap all of that hard work. This would tick off a lot of people who have been anticipating him for so long. I'm baffled that someone would think this.

Hell, his stats are datamined (I'm inclined to believe fall speed is a placeholder, though)

One, I didn't check up on the Wiki (and I don't own a Switch), and two, it shows that DLC characters cam come with spirits.

Although then again, he's the only one that's getting a Palutena's Guidance, but that takes more work than yanking a picture from somewhere...
Wasn't it just a fighter spirit? I would assume all dlc characters would come with that since it's the reward for beating classic mode.

Basically yeah. I guess in PP's case it'd be redundant to add any regular ones since there's lost of Mario spirits anyway.

...You can tell that I'm bored out of my skull right now. I don't even think there'll be any news on monday, since I doubt they do announcements on the weekends. And I don't have the heart to tell Mother fans that Reggie's most likely not going to reveal a Mother 3 localization.

That being said, 18 days left before something exciting actually happens.

Said it before, but Piranha Plant's currently an outlier regarding the treatment of DLC characters. He was considered early enough in development to have a gameplay trailer before the launch of the game and gets a guidance while the fighter's pass characters won't.

I haven't seen anyone else mention how all of these "leaks" have been consistently one right after another. Every time it's just someone getting particularly impatient and making a leak to stir up some excitement, Then when the "leak", or more accurately prediction, is incorrect, someone else makes the next one. We know it's going to be in April. Anyone could just keep saying "Oh there'll be an announcement on the 13th!" then another person goes "No it'll be on the 14th" and so on.

It's kinda ridiculous when sources turn out completely unreliable but people just latch onto it because I assume they have become just as impatient. Honestly, I don't blame anyone, but please just be aware of this trend beforehand so you aren't so disappointed you start blaming Atlus or Nintendo or even saying they've cancelled Joker?

Disgusting claims for the sake of justifying your own impatience.

People are moving goalposts right now because surely something is happening this month. If it's not due to fake leaks, it's because of assumptions (e.g. Reggie's retiring on the 15th = big goodbye linked to an announcement of some sort, unlikely as it is).

As for me, if nothing happens on the 15th, I'll only post once a day to continue the April countdown after that, because I'm tired of taking part in this nonsense if bupkis is going to happen until the last minute anyway.

Agreed, my point was that these fake leaks are stemming from the fact that something must happen this month. So people will just continue to move the date as they please because eventually one of them will be right.

On that subject, just because someone gets it right doesn't suddenly make them a reliable source for leaks...

Not buying this, for a variety of reasons...

Notably, even though they have a disclaimer about them not knowing if it's "P5A" or not, the Arena game is almost definitely the already-trademarked "P5U" (Persona 4 Arena is called Persona 4 The Ultimate in Japan). Plus, it claims that it is being made by Team Red, when Team Blue made the last two games. They could switch it, but I don't see why they would when they have a team who has experience in making good Persona fighting games.

The basic concepts sound plausible enough in general--an enhanced version with a lot of new stuff, the OG game ported to Switch with some Nintendo costumes or basic exclusive extras, and an Arena title--but I don't trust this site. It's especially shifty given how it was posted right in the midst of """"leak"""" season when everyone is thirsty to click on articles and videos for any amount of information, however credible.

I also still am not sold on P5S being a Switch port, as I feel like they'd just call it "Persona 5" and not give it a suffix if it is just a port, but I'm aware I'm in the minority on that and that is not reason to discount this article.

Me and Gentlepanda Gentlepanda in the Ultimate Social Thread discussed why this leak is bunk:

Why would they specifically build a new version of the game built on top of the old version alongside porting the old version that new one is being built off of? Especially when Atlus isn't exactly the biggest dev team around? That's a complete waste of resources.

I'm calling bunk on this. Doesn't add up.
tbh i'm still going with the theory that switch/royal are the exact same thing - switch gets developed with extra content, the royal (with 'royal's connotations of being 'deluxe') acts as a rerelease with switch's content so sony owners don't feel swindled

no matter how you slice it with feMC's identity, redhead or no redhead, nintendo advertising an updated rerelease of the game on ps4 while switch only gets the original makes very little sense
Anything's possible, but there's very good reason to think this won't be what happens. There would be immense backlash. It would also be incredibly stupid to burn the playerbase of the console that's slowly overtaking the PS4 in Japan and will only continue to grow.

Hi all, not a regular poster in this thread, but I'm starting to get really excited as to how Joker will play in Ultimate. I've mentioned in other places that I played through Persona 4 Golden, but not 5, so I may not necessarily know all of the nuances of Joker, but I do know he's cut from a similar cloth of being able to use Persona of any arcana, so that really does have so many exciting possibilities for his character in terms of move set.

I'm probably not as impatient for information, but I've been noticing that my hype for Joker has been slowly ramping up and I've been lurking here the past few days, so figured why not drop in more officially?

It's nice to have more people to discuss with. Hopefully we have not accidentally spoiled anything for you in case you do want to get around to P5 eventually.

The only reason I speculate it is possible is that we, as the general public, do not know what is up contractually between ATLUS and Sony. They did help out with funding P5 and we don't know what they got in return...

It would obviously be a PR nightmare though, which would join the conga-line of controversies they've had lately and in the past. Definitely feel sympathetic for whoever is running the ATLUS twitter account if that happens...

Also, another thing about that """""leak""""" that is weird: So, they're saying the girl in the trailer, who has a super generic self-insert-y character design with the main defining character traits being red hair and a bowtie, is not an FeMC, but there will be some other ponytail-having FeMC? Why would they do that? There are multiple options for hairstyles...
