People are all extremely different too.

I still take a stand against people as a whole and make exceptions on the rare occasion that I find someone who isn't completely hopeless.

Nitpicking isn't really funny, by the way. Okay, so you can't like/hate anime as a whole, but very few people who say one or the other actually mean that they are taking them all as a whole.

I mean, I like video games -- oh wait, I don't really like ALL video games, do I? Well I guess I have no stance on video games since I can't say I like them or hate them without being too general. I mean you've got everything from Pong to Phoenix Wright to Sonic to Mario to Halo. Wow, I feel so enlightened.

/dripping with sarcasm

Seriously, stop nitpicking. If people don't like anime it's up to them, if people like anime that's fine for them, instead of complaining about it just accept that people have different opinions and everything will not be 100% true.

Now, I could not disagree with your disposition more.

As you could have read in one of my posts in this particular topic, I do not mean that I am against referring all Japanese Animation as a whole, but rather judging it as an entire entity, when it is actually just Animation that comes from japan. So really, the entire point of this topic is that this is an anecdote explaining the manner in which my way of life was rotated along a Y axis until it reached a position roughly 180 degrees from that which it started. If I could have 60 seconds of your time, simply place your posterior in the selected location, and I will relate to you the details of how I was made the male monarch of the district of the City of Los Angeles, California located at coordinates 34.08333 -118.44778.

In the western region of the “City of Brotherly Love” known as Philadelphia, my mother expelled me from her womb and indeed that is also where I spent my childhood, in my mother’s care. The majority of my time was spent in a recreational area containing such diversions as a jungle gym, swing set, sand box, etc. I was typically at the height of leisure while frequently at a temperature slightly below what might be considered standard room temperature. Outside of my educational institution I was engaging in a game of basketball with some of my peers, when two gentlemen who seemed to be of the disposition to cause a great deal of mischief began causing a great deal of chaos and disharmony in the area in which I lived. I was involved in one rather small bout of fisticuffs after which my mother became concerned for my general safety and well-being, and she informed me that I would be moving in with her sister and her sister’s husband in the previously mentioned community located at the previously mentioned location.

I implored my mother to relent approximately 24-48 hours ago, yet she gathered my belongings in a somewhat flat, rectangular shaped piece of luggage and expelled me from her presence. She placed her lips upon my cheek in an affectionate manner and handed me a pre-purchased pass for public transportation. I placed the headphones for my personal music system into my ears and verbalized the idea that I may as well impact this situation with my foot. Traveling in the highest available level of comfort, this is indeed an unfortunate situation (although I make this statement with some irony). Consuming the juices obtained by the squeezing of the fruit of a Citrus sinensis from a piece of glass stemware commonly reserved for the sipping of sparkling wine originating from the Champagne region of France, I pause to wonder if this is indeed how the residents of the admittedly upper-class neighborhood located at the previously mentioned location commonly live. Indeed, I find this situation may be rather to my enjoyment.

I puckered my lips and exhaled forcefully to produce a shrill note in order to gain the attention of a taxicab driver, and as the driver approached I observed his California vanity plate which, in place of the traditional jumble of alpha-numeric characters, used only the letters F, R, E, S, and H, spelling out the word “fresh”. Additionally, from his rear view mirror dangled a pair of oversized, fur-covered cubes decorated to look like the six-sided dice commonly used in gambling and board games. In such a situation I could have made a statement about the unusualness of this particular taxicab to the point of it being nearly unique. Instead I cogitatively decided against it and instead informed the driver that he should deliver me to what was to become my new home in the community located at the previously mentioned location.

We pulled up to a large domicile sometime between the hours of 7 and 8 o’clock a.m., and in a loud tone of voice I informed the cab driver that at some undetermined point in the future I would again detect his odour through my sense of olfaction. I gazed about the region of land that I was destined to rule, reflecting on my arrival: Here I would claim my rightful place upon the throne, from which I would govern the previously mentioned community of Bel-Air as monarch.

Pokemon USA did a much better job with the show than 4kids did.
Doesn't mean the original show itself didn't go downhill, but eh.

This thread has some nice post in it but then I see a bunch of random post kinda clogging it up.

I find it sad that the bookstore in my town has the mangas right next to the little kid section when I see a good deal of books have a women with large breast on the cover :urg:

To the guy who wrote this blog: Kudos, it's a well voiced opinion and I back it 100%, I also lol'd at the Narutards, I thank you for that.

I used to be one of those "Haters" who didn't like anime because all they had seen were crappy ones (A.K.A. Naruto). Now that I've seen way different styles of anime/manga I get into different ones way more, usually they're not very well-known (In America), which makes it even more convenient if I want to read the manga in a public place or something, because nobody knows what the hell it is. =D

That being said, even while I was a "Hater" of anime I still watched DBZ, good old childhood.

A good read, op. Anime is too broad to refer too as a singular thing; I hate it when people are that close minded too. It'd be like saying you hate asian cuisine because one time you got sick after eating a bad pei wei meal.

Freeman, the only person by your name who is above the law when it comes to trolling and censor dodging in UB is a negro called Morgan.

You are not him, stop.

This applies to everyone, cut the nonsense already before I bury you.

1st movie was dubbed horribly, although cutting the morals of cloning at the beginning was probably a good idea since it was a tad to adult for the target audience.

The movies weren't dubbed well by 4kids until the 5th movie.

Around this time 4kids started taking more liberties with the anime and started screwing with it more and more. Hoenn was dubbed terribly until PUSA took over.

PUSA dubs better, they already proved it with the Sinnoh.

The only thing PUSA needs to work on that 4kids did better at times is it's voice actors.

I love anime, and I love manga, my drawing style is manga. However, I will (not) be the first to admit that the two types of franchises have their pratfalls, and fans definitely have something to do with that.

Fans have different ways of expressing their love for something, that is a universal truth, and an obvious one. Its the ones whom take it to extremes that are the cause of hate towards the franchises in general. Lets face it though, its a mode of expression, and there is not really much of anything (short of violence, which should not be considered) that they can do about it. Me drawing with a distinctive manga-like style, is just one such example.

Manga/Anime lovers also have a tendency to be labeled "Japanophiles", I think. Well, in some cases that may be true, but if they find fault in some things in Japanese society, then the word really is nothing more than insult that doesn't have much power behind it. For one thing, while I would like visiting Japan, or even living there for a short time, I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my days there.

Back to Manga/Anime related things. There are a few things even I don't like about it. For example, when I view Manga, I don't mind if the story in question is perverted, so long as it is not adult-rated in the extreme. There are some lines I just will not cross, for moral reasons. Besides, I find most of them worth a laugh or two or more.

In relation to the OP's post, Fans definitely do have a sort of detrimental effects on the way it is viewed, but isn't that not the same for every other fandom?
-----------------

On a semi-related note: fanfiction can be considered another contributor to disdain for Anime and Manga. Alot of them are shallow, and self-serving in many cases, but there are also many cases of honest ones that mainly deal with romances between characters, and this is another reason some dislike Anime and Manga.

Also semi-related, I once tried making a fanfiction for the Legend of Zelda, mainly involving Link and Ganondorf. It is titled "Bataille Finale", which in french reads "Final Battle"

The story has a serious tone, where Ganondorf challenges a grown-up Hero of the Winds to a battle at Death Mountain within the new land of Hyrule. The fiction would involve Link and Ganondorf having an epic sword fight, while banter between them involves their two clashing philosophies/ideologies (as I see them). Ganondorf however, does not use Din's power during the fight, and when he is defeated, he is released from the curse of immortality granted him by the Triforce of Power, from which he rapidly ages and turns to dust.

Link then honors him with a Tombstone within the new Lost Woods area, in a clearing not unlike that of the Master Sword in A Link to the Past.

Well thought-out stories can be a sight to behold, and among many proverbial coals, there are diamonds within fanfiction, but like real diamonds, you need to find them first.
-------------

Thats my say, and a good day to you all.

Lol, I call myself an anime fan because... well, to use a previously stated example, it's like saying "I like reading".
I agree that it shouldn't be so generalized, though. It annoys me when people assume all anime and manga is the same. :|

Even though I like some anime, such as the early Pokemon, Dragonball Z, and Digimon, as well as this Lupin film I watched a few weeks ago which was great, if I didn't like any of them, it would make me ignorant?

So like, if I hate watching any live action television programme, I'm ignorant?

In a sense, yes, because there's no way that you've seen every type of live action show. It's like how people hear Lil Wayne's coughing about drugs and whatever other generic mainstream crap they put on the radio and say that they hate all rap music, when in reality there are tons of different kinds of rap that each sound nothing like mainstream.
