Your character is a waste of a slot and it's a waste of brain cells to even remember he existed. He will never be playable because the world agrees with this. Enjoy your quickplay icon, assist trophy and dead franchise. I'll be enjoying Metroid Prime and the next Donkey Kong (which at this point will probably have K. Rool in it.)
Sorry that you can't accept that I like a character and want them in Smash for good reason lol. Is there any need to start insulting a series like that.

Also you are assuming I won't be playing the new Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong? Of course I will.

Clearly people here aren't fully understanding of what the word "Anime" means. Besides, even if they all fell under the same category of "Anime", it's not like it's a bad thing. Sakurai has to appeal to all audiences and not just the individual. One person's despised character is another's dream come true.

I mean to be fair the guy is in a thread with "dumb reasons" literally in the title so on some level he has to know his opinion is far from great so is it even worth fighting?

It's an artifact generalization that we really should have gotten over as soon as it popped up in 2014. I'd argue it actually takes quite a bit of effort to design a human character while still keeping them distinguishable, which is why much effort goes into the hair and clothes rather than face or body type. You can't see it in the model depicted, but Isaac has a flowing scarf right behind him, which is one of the several things that aims to differentiate him from other human type characters.

Whoa, am I gonna have to report you for excessive hostility?!? Hate in any form is the real waste of brain cells.

While I don't agree with the attitude presented, ps_ did bring up valid points in how much failure there can be in terms of Fire Emblem and other series in making very bland and stale character designs. I've been in the boat I don't mind Fire Emblem having lots of reps but it'd be nice if they all differed from each other more in both looks and weapons.

For men, all of these differ greatly from each other. Even though Gatrie and Mordecai are beefy dudes, their faces differ greatly. Even though Volug and Ranulf are slender yet fit men, they're body types still differ some and their faces read very differently from each other. Ranulf and Mordecai have the same hair color but the style and facial hair helps separate this. The closest two males on here are Jarod and Gatrie and even then Jarod has a harsher face with his thin eyebrows. Marth, Roy, Robin, Chrom, Pit, and Dark Pit are however more interchangeable.

Ladies obviously get it rougher since they go through a "would you bang this" test by developers cause it sells better. But even so, I found this lovely lot of ladies that mostly differ from each other better than what Robin, Lucina, Palutena, and Corrin could dream of. Titania has a more motherly face paired against her wolf laguz ally who looks meaner. Bad boss lady and Calill both have "I'm superior than you" faces but with much difference in the actual facial construction. The purple haired black hole and possibly most useless unit in the game have an innocence to them but one looks much more energetic than the other. And lastly Meg representing the larger women and Valtome... representing Valtome... (it's a guy)

But the truth of the matter is the character who will always get in over the others and also be the main character is going to be more lifeless and dull. They are cookie cutter self inserts and nothing more. Ike got beefed up at least between games to help him stand out! But alas Joker comes in one of those typical "ordinary, cookie cutter guy with magical powers and likely has at least one female ally who berates him (though I don't know if that part matches but probably)" that is 99.99% anime plots.

So I understand the burn out on stereotypical anime looking hero or heroine as they feel more like Barbie dress up dolls than their own unique person. I still play and like them, but I respect the concern and think the crowd trying to defend it come across as more desperate. It's fine to like the characters or style, but I don't think it takes too long of a look to realize the main protagonists (who are what gets in) fail at differing from the normal while the supporting cast or more out there protagonist characters like Dillon or Spring Man are much more creative and appealing to the eye.

As for the main topic.

:ultmetaknight: - Cause of his reign in Brawl.
:ultbayonetta: - Cause of her reign in Smash 4 even if I barely played it.

This quote alone makes me laugh.

Oh yeah and you also have some of the ****tiest opinons to grace this site oh my lord. You write a detailed post which comes down to 'boohoo i dont like anime get it out of smash bros, forget about these characters stories and **** idc I DONT LIKE ANIME WAAAA!!!'

Grow the **** up.
None of what you said here actually addressed any of his arguments. All you did was put up a straw man and add WAAAA to it. It is as if he is arguing with Wario. His post did not come down to him just not liking anime. It explained why. Seems you missed that explanation completely. Perhaps you should try reading again before your next reply.

:ultpikachu:/:ultpichu:: Mainly because their moveset doesn't work with me at all and I never really cared for these guys, but with Pikachu in particular being absolutely EVERYWHERE because he's the main mascot of the series he's definitely left too sour a taste in my mouth to ever be interested in playing
:ultzss:: I just don't like the fact that they made what was essentially a last resort, super vulnerable state of Samus that debuted proper in Zero Mission if I'm remembering correctly into a character who is extremely strong and most of the time better than her armored self, which should be when she's at her strongest. Plus none of the moves save for neutral b have any sort of basis from the franchise so it feels to me like it's more of an OC with Samus strapped onto it with the excuse of "oh in lore Samus is said to be extremely acrobatic from being raised by the Chozo".
:ultsheik:: Honestly it's just the moveset, it's weird and doesn't resonate with me at all. I like OoT and while I didn't get to find it out myself the Sheik is Zelda thing was a cool twist

It's not limited to visuals either. Fire Emblem has become a running gag in Smash for a reason. Every character added from the series plays exactly the same. Even if Ike and Marth have different swords, both will end up mashing forward-air and dash dancing the entire time. And this seems to be contagious since you see characters like Cloud doing it too. Hell, if I didn't tell you Cloud is from a totally different series you'd think he was from Fire Emblem. Same with Palutena.

I mean, look at this garbage:

<img src="https://smashboards.com/attachments/untitled-png.182962/" data-url="" class="bbImage" data-zoom-target="1" alt="Untitled.png" />

You mean to tell me, 100% honestly, that you'd be able to tell me these characters aren't from the same series if you were unfamiliar with Nintendo?
Anyone with functional eyes will be able to know that these characters aren't from the same series (barring Marth, Lucina, and Roy) since they all have different clothes that'll make it obvious they're not from the same franchise. The Fire Emblem crew hold different kinds of armor that Zelda, the Pits and Palutena don't have, and the others in that photo have different accessories that others don't.

On a side note, why the heck did you put Cloud with the others? Plenty of people know who he is.

Going back to the topic, some characters I don't use is because I'm not really good with using their intended playstyle or just don't like using that character. Nothing really out there.

I will never play Wii Fit Trainer. Honestly, in a game where you can play as some cool as hell mother****ers with guns and swords and tons of personality, or some cute as hell mother****ers who are so damn adorable that you feel bad hitting them and have to sob and hug your puppy after beating one up - how many people are actually telling themselves, "Damn, I really can't wait to play as the basic white girl in yoga pants."? None. Absolutely none. Don't point out to me whoever mained her in the past, no one actually wants to play Wii Fit Trainer. Drop her moveset on literally anyone else and they will jump ship. The memes are kind of okay, but that's the end of it.

On another note, I'll never play as any of these FE anime "waifu" characters. Female Robin, female Corrin, whomever the inevitable DLC Fire Emblem representative is, etc. I can appreciate a strong female character, that's not the issue. It's how the community chooses to represent these FE characters in particular that kills me and makes me feel dirty for switching to the female version of them when there's a choice.

Let me add some character icons for added effect :ultwiifittrainer::ultcorrin::ultrobin:

Zelda's supposed to fully turn male through magic, like the perfect disguise and that's what makes this character unique imo. But for some reason Nintendo is backtracking on anything like this or Birdo's identity.
Sheik is a disguise Zelda used to hide from Ganondorf. Sheik is 100% female.

I refuse to play Sonic because he's a one trick pony. Just turns into a ball all of the time and the rest is generic punches and kicks.

Bayonetta: only play a couple matches in smash 4 since she came out at the same time as corrin who i liked so much better.

Miis: IDK they are a strange case that I just have avoided, surprised I have not messed with swordfighter in particular since I do enjoy other swordfighters and there are some cool costumes

Various Mario & Pokemon Fighters: There are so many fighters from both franchises that I only really mess with a couple that I really like. Do not really have this problem with Fire Emblem or Zelda but I do like those franchises a bit more.

HM (other fighter I am at least a liittle surprised I have not messed with more): Fox, Falco, Diddy, Sheik

Nah. Cloud's costume isn't horribly over designed and his hair is too interesting.

... well, regular Cloud. His Advent Children costume is far more generic JRPG.

I refuse to play as the rest of the Mario series cast plus Yoshi, Wario, and the Kongs because I have Rosalina.

I’m also among those folks who refuse to play as characters from games I’ve never played before.

You know what I consider "Japanese art style"? Street Fighter. Warioware. Castlevania. Metroid. Star Fox. Animal Crossing. Sonic. Plenty more, many of them in Smash.

These are series that are Japanese in origin and actually bother to have an art style. The creators put in some sort of effort to differentiate themselves from other game series. You can't sit a character from Animal Crossing and Street Fighter side-by-side and claim they're from the same series, it's impossible. Their visual design is so strong that the Smash team has to make adjustments and take artistic liberties just to keep the cast's presence from becoming more jarring than Mugen sprite rips.

Meanwhile, in Fire Emblem:

View attachment 182958

The above characters aren't playable in Smash Bros., but if they were the Smash team wouldn't have to change anything about them. They're generic.

They exhibit the same core issue you see from Marth, Lucina, Roy, Corrin, Robin and so on: these "characters" look like the same mannequin copy-pasted over and over. If you wanted to recreate these characters as Miis or put them in your Jerma rumble, all you'd have to do is make one central body+face, copy it 50 times and change the hair or costumes. The eyes are the same. The head shapes are the same. Same mouths, same noses, same skin tone. Even their bodies are the same hyper-idealistic "skinny and child-like" figure that anime-loving creeps are drawn to. And from what I can tell in Smash, they have the same personality as well.

"But ps_," the fanboys cry, "You just cherry-picked those fifteen characters. There are plenty of Fire Emblem characters who don't look like boring anime!" And for once in their sad lives they would be right. There are examples of somewhat unique designs in the series, presumably because the game's director realized if they didn't let the art team do something different every now and then they'd kill themselves. But none of those designs are playable in Smash and they never will be.

View attachment 182963

Where's this goofball? Why didn't he make it in?

View attachment 182964

What about this big fat *****? Why can't we play as her? Surely she'd use different moves than Marth.

View attachment 182970

Or what about this chad? I would play as this guy.

I guess modeling all of those above characters would take more time than simply copying assets from Marth or Lucina, though, and it'd take even longer to work out their movesets. So instead you get to enjoy this refreshing new edition from the Fire Emblem series, one that's making waves throughout the internet for reasons nobody with 2+ neurons can derive any reason from.

View attachment 182969

Oh, what? He's not from Fire Emblem, despite being drawn in the exact same art style? Could have fooled me!

I hate these **** series. "The game is Japanese, so it can pile in all the forgettable anime they want" is a platitude I'm tired of hearing. At this rate characters with actual effort put into their design will be a minority in Smash Bros., all so the team can make room to advertise this uninspired nonsense to western audiences. And there's droves, no, armies of series sycophants who will excuse this drivel, then continue to ask for...

Who? Isaac? What's he from, some JRPG nobody played? Kind of a far cry from Ridley and K. Rool, don't you think?

tl;dr - My thoughts on anime trash in Smash (and the people who advocate/excuse it):

View attachment 182971
Yep, everything you said about anime-style characters is the same. They spend no time designing them and it almost looks copy-pasted. If I didn't know Cloud, Palutena, Dark Pit, etc. weren't from their respective IP's I'd think they're from Fire Emblem.

Perhaps you forgot how critically acclaimed and popular Golden Sun is. Sure, the franchise is mega-dead, but people still love and cherish it, just like Earthbound/Mother. Grow up.
Sorry that you can't accept that I like a character and want them in Smash for good reason lol. Is there any need to start insulting a series like that.

Also you are assuming I won't be playing the new Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong? Of course I will.
Hold on: Was a new DK game announced? I though we were getting a port ad that's it.

Sheik is Zelda transformed with magic so there really is no way to determine Sheik's gender in OoT. Even Nintendo's official statements do not have to reflect the idea's that the original author had. It could very well be the case that the designer of Sheik meant for Sheik to be a male and that Nintendo just retconned it afterwards. Sakurai also keeps coming back on his words and Nintendo is no stranger to retconning.

But right now Sheik is officially female.

Sheik (pronounced /ʃiːk/ sheek)[2] is a recurring persona assumed by Princess Zelda throughout The Legend of Zeldaseries,[3] used to disguise herself as a male Sheikah.[4]
Says it right there on the wiki. Where are you getting this magic transformation thing from?

I will never play Sonic except for rare occasions because of Sonic 06. The series in general as important as it is has lost its luster.

Ocarina of Time. Which happens to be the only cannon game that Sheik appears in.
Yes, but do they say that in the game? That Zelda used magic to literally switch her gender (if they did I may have skipped past it too fast)?

Ridley.

Their fans were mean to me and hurt my feelings. I am offended and outraged.

/s

Seriously though, off the top of my head there isn't really anyone on the roster who I will outright refuse to play and/or have a dumb reason to exclude.

There are certain characters who I am apathetic to but I can appreciate their place, what they bring to the table and how their inclusions please their fans, so I will still give them a go when given the chance.

Yeah, that's a pretty boring answer and sitting on the fence, but it's a video game FFS. :)

Game & Watch easily. I hate how he looks, I hate how he plays and I hate the sounds he makes.

Probably should add Piranha Plant to that list. I hate wasted slots on generic characters.

Well, Piranha Plant seems fun to play as. And I don't think we can call it "generic". It's an iconic video game character and I find it way less generic than Chrom (who is certainly a good character, but singe I didn't play his game ...).

No one thinks that. People use the female ones because the male renders are poorly done, they have better taunts, (especially female Corrin), etc. People use male Robin/Corrin/Wii Fit Trainer/Villager etc. all the time depending on voice preferences an taunts.

People use male Villager because no one wants Villager as waifu. As for Robin/Corrin/Wii Fit Trainer I think the female is more popular, and I often see them being hot or cute or better to look at given as a reason.

Well obviosuly no one is going to make a waifu out of Villager since they'd be a ped.
As for the other three I only use females because:
  1. The obvious reason
  2. Male VA sucks
  3. Male taunts suck
  4. I'm done with anime boys
  5. Male WFT looks like my gym teacher from freshman year without a beard.

Heroes...? Err, okay, no, but anyway

I tend not to play any character who is from a franchise I have never played. It doesnt matter that I may be pretty damn good with them, if Ive never played Pikmin, I wont play Olimar. This is actually why I dropped Villager. It never felt right having never played any Animal Crossing.

I refused to play Mega Man because I hated how he looked. Sakurai went waaaay too retro with his design. I dreamed of Mega Man being in Smash, but in those dreams he looked closer to this

mvc2-megaman.gif
mega-crouchkicks.gif

I get why we got this instead
tumblr_mo9oup0KXw1rwspqso1_1280.png

http://www.rockman-corner.com/2014/01/sakurai-talks-mega-mans-design-in-super.html?m=1

...doesnt mean I HAVE to like it, and I dont. Mute, emotionless, squat, lemon pellets...

Lastly, I wont play Cloud because my best friend pushed me too hard, so now I wont play Cloud. He knows FF7 is one of my favorite and most played games of all time, and because of that he demands I pick Cloud up. Now granted I quit Smash 4 long before even Ryu showed up as dlc and never came back, so I could never have played him, but I dont feel obligated to just automatically pledge myself to someone because of my history with their game; sometimes it happens (Pit, Pokemon characters) sometimes it doesnt (Cloud, Link, Samus, Mario...). He wouldn't stop harping on it, and now, to spite one person, I still wont...
