Why am I not surprised...?
Well, it is gamefaqs we're talking about.
Oh. I went there.

Now that you mention it an alternate universe looks like it could be the only answer at this point or.
Shulk is somehow Immortal after the ending of Xenoblade Chronicles and X takes place a couple thousand years after the end of Xenoblade Chronicles where the Homs and Nopon and other species have continued to strive after the end of Xenoblade Chronicles.
This is honestly what i'm hoping for
if someone Alvis was like, "i know you wished for a world without gods but we still need one so you've secretly been the god for years which is why you can't age or die," or something like that.
I just want him in X so bad.

...Thoughts? Looks bad, but I tried.
Also, this is amazing. Like, i'm astounded at how good this looks and how much i need this in my Smash.

The weird thing is Shulk though looking like a generic JRPG Protangist he seemed to be working on a different variation of characteristics.

I guess what initially stuck out to me about Shulk is unlike most JRPG characters... well to put it bluntly he's not a complete moron. Most JRPG heroes figures are generally either hot headed, naive, and generally stupid. Or they are made unfeeling and deattached. I never got that from Shulk which I think made him more interesting intially though I understand all they are doing is operating from a slightly different set of archtype tropes.

Then again what isn't a trope or archtype anymore, after all it's not really whether a cliche or trope is used, it's more is it used well enough that people can accept it.

Yeah, Shulk seems like a normal person who had to become the hero.

The thing that made me like Shulk was how different he felt in a sense. How he is shown as a character with alot of conflict, like the visions for example: instead of being all like "visions are great, I can see the future!" he instead has the vision of Fioras death, which in essence meant that he had to see her die twice. They basically show that his abilites are both a blessing and a curse.

I liked Shulk 'cause he actually had a genuine personality beyond "Golly gee saving the day is fun yeah!" He's just a modest engineering student who's thrust into the position of hero.
And then he gets some good character development. He starts off wanting to just kill everything on Mechonis, and once he realizes that they are also sentient, he's disgusted with himself! He goes so far as to offer Egil and Mumkhar mercy! And after Zanza's defeat, when he's talking to Alvis, he seems to genuinely feel bad for him. Zanza. Who destroyed the universe. And was planning to do it again. Then he gives up his godhood. 'Cause he never wanted to be the hero. He just wanted to marry Fiora and research stuff.
I like that more than just generic "Yay saving the world is awesome" guy.

I'm rather upset that I will be leaving town tomorrow and no longer able to play Xenoblade. Oh, well.
I'll be with you again, my sweet.

I don't think you need to work that hard to tie X into Xenoblade. Although it is likely that the games are merely thematic sequels, it is possible the Alvis recreated the Earth when he created his boundless universe, and that the planet that you land on in X is actually an area of the planet created from the remains of the Bionis and Mechonis. It is also possible that they are separate universes that are some how connected by the Monado.

like everyone else has said what made me like shulk was he was one not a generic JRPG hero he has personality to him alot of people can relate to and his motivation is more complex then "they are evil I need to stop them" he is not looking to save the world he just wanted revenge for what happen to his girl and I think to me at least that is something people can related to it made me want to kill them after seeing her died and not many games bring out emotion in people like that

Seriously? Gamestop is evil then. I bought mine used at Gamestop THIS WEEK for $50. What the hell? You shouldn't be allowed to charge $50 at one location, and $80 at another.

I'm under the impression that it's 80 new, not used.

If I remember correctly, I first started wanting to play Xenoblade after playing and loving the Last Story and Pandora's tower. I researched about it, all the while trying avoid a lot of spoiler, and it was very interesting. "Two fighting titans? I wonder what that is all about..." I had been worried it'd just be you controlling a titan and trying to stop the bad guys or something, but boy was I wrong. The trailers were too complex, detailed to ignore. "High price. High Demand. Low stock...This game must be good." Lo and behold, I eventually got Xenoblade when I went to my local Gamestop, even though the dollar value made me wince. When I started playing it...my god I felt like I was in nerd heaven. The overworld was beautiful, even more so than the Zelda games. The characters had their quirks and personalities which made me smile. To be honest, as I continued to play the game through my first playthrough I almost wished I traveling with Shulk and the rest of the gang. I still do, as silly as it sounds.

But, ah, I'm being overly sentimental. Forgive me. :p

Yep, got mine at 30 in Italy, second-hand.
I also got Pandora's Tower, The Last Story and Metroid Prime Trilogy at the same price or even less which are pretty pricey from what I've heard.

I actually got my copy of Xenoblade the week it came to America, on accident. I was like "wait, this actually came to America?". I got it just because I was proud that OpRainfall achieved their goal. I figured I'd just play it for an hour and never touch it again. Next thing I knew I did four playthroughs that summer.

Im on a tight budget for gaming and saving up for other things but If I had the money I would go for it. Damn I should have bought it on black friday when it was 40 bucks. I am an idiot. I need to play xenoblade somehow before Xenoblade X comes out. Hearing about it being super long makes me super intrested. This is the game I need to occupy my summer.

I had no idea this game was really hard to get when I went out to buy it. One day I just decided, "Hmm, Xenoblade looks cool, I'm gonna get it tomorrow". Went to Gamestop, saw it on the shelf for $50, bought it, then went home. Then I went online and saw that everybody was saying "HOLY CRAP THIS WHERE IS THIS GAME NO STORE NEAR ME HAS IT WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVJEKIWJAKRDSAHKGWA". I guess I was really lucky. It's weird because usually whenever I want to get a certain game, I can never find it anywhere in stores near where I live.

I watched the Japanese intro to Xenoblade when operation rainfall began, and the zooming out camera part to show the size of the areas and then the 2 titans is what got me interested. I then got to listen to some of the soundtrack on YouTube and it was amazing.

When the game was announced to come out in Europe I had hope it would come here to NA as well.
I wasn't willing to wait and my Wii had homebrew, so I could easily use that to get passed the region locking.
So I preordered it right away, and when it came out and arrived, I played it nonstop, and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

Of course I was more than willing to support my favorite game of all time when it came out here.

Only see a difference in the title font, otherwise it's pretty much the same.
