That's probably the case. I mean that's a huge spoiler just punching you in the face.

Imagine if the pre-release commercials for Ocarina of Time had been Zelda transforming into Sheik or vice versa.

There's already Smash for that. Well, not anymore, kinda.

Sakurai doesn't really care though lol. He already spoiled something in Uprising in Palutena's trailer, even if it''s insignificant.

Oh yeah, I know Sakurai gives none of the ****s. That's been obvious for a while now. It's just funny to imagine having a similar trailer for such a huge spoily-type element for something like OoT.

I think he's only like that for games that have been released for quite a while. I remember before Kid Icarus: Uprising came out and everyone only knew about the initial Medusa part. Everything after that was a huge surprise.

True...

On another note, I've been thinking: If Shulk gets something like a Monado gauge that gives him Monado specials for a limited time, are his custom moves going to be focused only on the basic specials, or will they somewhat affect the Monado specials?

Or, if he just got some basic Monado specials, how would you change them?

I can see these being shulk's special moves:
-Neutral special: Manado Buster
-Side special: Manado biter
-Up special: Manado purge
-Down special: Manado shield
-Final Smash: Vision reaction

Every other move can be his normal Artes.

Given the attention to detail they're devoting this time around, I really hope an idea suggested here before is used where Shulk's eyes briefly glow blue while performing a dodge, and maybe even change his shield to Monado Shield (the yellow circling patterns).

I seriously just can't wait to see Shulk in HD!

That will probably be the best reveal for me. Seeing his moveset and stuff is nice, but I can't wait to just see him in general.

No, although my preferred outcome for costumes (which I know won't happen because it's not how the world works) is to have differently-colored varieties of his various Xenoblade outfits as his alt colors.

But yeah, it wouldn't bother me if he just had different colors of his badass default outfit, and like Lucas or something his hair changed color for a couple of them. Or all of them really, I'll probably just stick with default because it's awesome, so I wouldn't even notice.

I think Seven makes the most sense as an assist trophy just from a first glance (yeah I know who you guys are talking about), especially since Sakurai doesn't care about spoilers (he spoiled perhaps the biggest plot point in Uprising in Palutena's trailer).

Reyn or Melia would also make good ATs imo and I wouldn't object to Riki as an AT either.

My copy is getting shipped on Tuesday :D

I think the biggest plot point is immediately after a certain confrontation with Medusa, but that's besides the point. :D

I agree that Seven (although Reyn and Dunban (and Melia, how could I forget her?!) are arguably just as good of a contender) makes the most sense as an AT. I just hope Xenoblade gets an AT. We still haven't seen a Punch-Out!! one yet. Or a Wii Fit one.

That is of course unless all the party members are in a "Chain Attack" FS, which sounds cool too. In that case, I vote for D!ckson or Alvis.

Sakurai did it for Yoshi, there's no reason why he couldn't do it for Shulk. I like your idea of Manado Shield being his shield, better than my idea( Manado Shield being his down special.).

This so much. While I don't mind the graphics of Xenoblade Chronicles, the characters do look quite... choppy at times. I can't wait to see a HD, quality-render of Shulk (and maybe some of the other characters, be they AT's or just trophies), he ought to look even better then!

I think Sakurai could give shulk An alternate costume due to Xenoblade's armor system.

I just had a thought hit me. Almost ALL of the villain characters haven't been revealed yet. Such as Wario, Ganondorf, Wolf, and so forth.

Personally I think it would be awesome for a trailer that has all the villains appear for their introductions, and they start taking out the heroes of the various game series while working together.

...and then Shulk appears with his visions, to alter the future and save the heroes! XD

Fun idea... but it almost makes more sense for that to be the Tactician ("Robin") from Fire Emblem if he/she makes it in. Tipping the scales of a fight and all that.

How about instead, they show a little bit of trailer that shows Shulk early like Palutena, who (Shulk) has visions of various characters KOing him with certain attacks, then his gameplay shows those characters using the same attacks in the same situations, where instead of getting KO'd, he dodges and/or counterattacks against them all?

THE MAKING SHULK FEEL UNIQUE USING MONADO ARTS AS 'B' MOVES CHALLENGE

So, I keep hearing how the Monado can make Shulk a unique fighter, and I obviously agree. However, I feel like all of the Shulk move lists I see seem kind of boring. If the Monado is such a unique weapon we should really be able to do much better. I propose we look at Shulk's possible specials, and, using ONLY MONADO ARTS AS SPECIALS, try to make him feel truly different from anyone else on the roster. Here is my attempt:

Side B - Monado Buster: The most boring move I'm including, the general gimmick of it would be that it's range and knockback start out slow but can grow to extremes (both in length and power) if charged. I was also considering Monado Eater here, which would be damage over time effect.

Neutral B - Monado Cyclone: A lot of people use this as a recovery but I feel it works best as a neutral. It would cast cyclone, which would obviously do a decent amount of damage on both sides of Shulk. I would have this be a charge move and the longer you charge the attack the bigger the area of effect and the more damage it does. Now, what makes this move special? Well, in Xenoblade the move can cause TOPPLE, so, in Smash, it should have a chance to TRIP anyone that it hits. Fully charged it should be a 100% chance to trip. Might also be fun if it spiked in the air.

Down B - Monado Shield: There are a lot of options for this spot, but I think Shield could be a lot of fun. How about this? Every time Shulk uses the move he has a period of time were he would completely absorb the next 'B' attack an enemy tries to hit him with. No knock back, no damage, no anything.... but only one attack and only for 'B' attacks. It would at least fit with what it does in game.

Up B - Monado Purge: The Purge animation has Shulk jumping in the air, so I could see it being used as a recovery. I would make it a move you can aim, so you can use it to cover ground horizontally as well. In order to reflect it's function in game, it would immediately remove any defensive ability a character is using and lock them out of it for a few seconds. So, if Fox was using his reflector for example, it would knock him out of it and stop him from using it for 2-3 seconds.

Bonus points if Shulk fights the Unique Monster "Gigantic Collosal Violet Dragonia" at the end of the trailer & it turns out to be a playable Ridley xD

That's not the way most unique monsters are named though. If this was Xenoblade, there would be "Violet Dragonia" and there would be one unique "Violet Dragonia" named "Surly Ridley" or something to that effect.

(Maybe Gargantuan Ridley or Massive Ridley would be more appropriate.)

I'm not a fan of Shulk changing hair color. Also, Seven does seem like one of the best AT choices. Personally, I'd like some Melia and Dunban representation. I'm currently using them the most along with Shulk in game. Like others have said, simply seeing Shulk in HD would be one of the biggest treats in smash as character models were one of the weaker, not bad, parts of the game. I can't really think of any really awesome alts for Shulk. I know one, but it is a spoiler and I don't think it should appear. Recolors of his normal clothing would be fine for me, especially after seeing some of the rad things Sakurai did with Link's new SS outfit. Can't wait for a trailer, it is going to be the most epic thing ever! lol

I'm really looking forward to arguing about Shulk's feats in the "Who's Canonically the Strongest Character in Smash?" thread.

"But this character can do this!"
"But Shulk knows that and will counter...."

Also, is anyone else REALLY scared Sakurai will give Shulk a future-sight based counter on his down special? Plz no Sakurai, plz.

Wouldn't he already be the strongest due to his abilities with the Monado and the fact that he killed a god?

I think Ganondorf is the strongest of the Smash characters, if you want to look at really technically. Ganondorf can't be harmed by anything other than the Master Sword, and Silver/Light arrows. Also hes proficient in many types of dark magic: shape shifting, summoning monsters/demons, possession, conjuring dark magic to hurt you etc. none of which has been shown in Smash.

Endgame Spoilers, you have been warned!

Well, many people will argue that other characters have killed "Gods" before... but Shulk killed the God of the universe (Which also alluded to the fact that he'd made multiple universe and had done this cycle many times before Shulk had arrived), and created a brand new universe without gods. XD

Edit: It's also something when your fighting someone who is making planets in front of you, just so they can make them explode in an attempt to kill you.

Edit: In response to Ganondorf vs Shulk.

Thing is, by the end of the game... it's revealed that the Monado can do quite literally anything that the user wills it to do. Thus, Shulk getting rid of the old universe and it's god/gods and making one without.

Endgame spoilers!
Yeah, based on the fact that he quite literally killed 1/3 of his universe's Gods, I'd say Shulk is easily the strongest Smash Bro, if he makes it in. Although, to be fair, he had Alvis on his side when he killed Zanza. Can he get the true Monado again by himself?

Don't want to have this thread go off course, so if you want to argue your point the actual thread is here:

http://smashboards.com/threads/whos-canonically-the-strongest-character-in-smash.347421/

(I will echo the point a lot of people made regarding Ganondorf though. If he is susceptible to damage from holy and light based weaponry, a certain goddess of light that was recently revealed for the game just might have his number.)

On Topic: What do you guys think of Shulk have a few moves that could trip? Topple is an important game play mechanic in Xenoblade, and I can't think of a better way to represent it.

Or it can show Link, Samus, Fox, and Ike all fighting Mechon in a non specific area. at first it would look like Link, Samus, Fox, and Ike are winning, but then the Mechon they thought they defeated would just get back up. At that point you would see a dark figure running towards the battle.

cutting back to the group that's fighting the Mechon, everyone in that group would look fatigued after fighting the Mechon again. And just when things couldn't get any worse for the heroes, a big Mechon shows up to fight them. All seems lost, untill you see the dark figure from earlier jump over the heroes and cut the big Mechon in half.

after the dust settles you can see a strange symbol appear on what appears to be a beam sword. you then hear a voice that says: "Manado Enchant!!" at that point you would see the group of heroes get covered in a blue light. the heroes look up to see who's there, and its none other than Shulk. " You will know our names" starts playing, and after showing the brief in game gameplay for Shulk, it would cut back to the non specific area. you would see a heap of defeated Mechon and all the heroes( including Shulk.) standing back to back, Shulk would then say: " How good are we!?"

EDIT: or Shulk could take a page from Reyn and say: "good thing I'm here......no? anyone!?"

So I've only made it to the Colony, and I'm really liking this game so far, however, there is one big thing that I noticed;

In every character select I make, I put Shulk inbetween Fire Emblem and Ness, because they are all RPG Franchises that saw at least one entry localized. I've always joked about Ness and Shulk being bros, but from what little I've played of Xenoblade at the current time, I think that it might be a joke no longer. The description of the sword you start out as says that it was made by Shulk. The rabbit like creatures you fight on the way to the Colony drop fur when killed. You can sell the fur for low amounts of money. Shulk kills rabbits with a sword that he made, just so that he can sell the fur. Compare to Ness, who among other enemies, attacks Runaway Dogs, and other seemingly benevolent animals on his quest. These two both kill animals just for fun/experience. I know that canon states that Ness likes animals, and maybe I'm completely wrong about Shulk seeing as how I'm only about 30-ish minutes into the game at this point, but it's not gonna stop me from joking about it.

Moral of the Story; Never put Shulk and Ness on a team against any animal character
